Everywhere a person goes in today's world, there are bound to be differences. Whether it's race, religion, gender or even the music we listen to, diversity is all around us. Being from the rural community that I'm from, people may say it's hard to find diversity. Little do they know, they are a part of an extraordinary, diverse world. For example, I listen to numerous genres of music. However, orchestra music is not one of them. I went out of my comfort zone to listen to the University of Findlay Orchestra concert on November 8, 2015. To say that my eyes were opened is an understatement. The concert was five hours long, however I was only in attendance for an hour and a half. Many things caught my attention while I was there. For example, the amount of …show more content…
I wasn't entertained by any of the pieces they played or by anything specific related to the actual orchestra. One thing I did find to be entertaining was people watching. A gentleman sitting three seats over from me looked like he was asleep, although his wife looked like she very much enjoying the concert. During one of the compositions, she looked over at him and hit him on the shoulder as to wake him up. If I had to guess I would say that she made him go. Observing the audience and their actions and reactions was enjoyable. I could tell each person had a different view on a song, or a different opinion about an instrument. Noticing things like that is what got me through the symphony. The symphony showed me that there are multiple types of people out in the world who each own and express their individual likes and opinions. People all have different likes and enjoyments, and the orchestra was not one of mine. However, it did not affect my standpoint about the people that do enjoy orchestra music and the symphony. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I'm not going to judge someone because of the music they listen
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 at the Berlin Philharmonie, gifted the audience with a masterful rendition of the movements within the symphony. The Symphony divides into three separate parts, in which the movements complement each other's characteristics. The symphony orchestra features a myriad of orchestral instruments featuring the Brass, Woodwinds, Strings, and Percussion families. Furthermore, the various movements throughout the performance utilize various musical concepts that bring the music to life. Albeit, the complexity of Mahler’s symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performed superbly throughout the performance.
The second concert I attended was a performance by the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra at TAMU’s Rudder Theater. The performers were wearing black suits with a white button up shirt for males and black, full sleeve button up shirts for females. The audience was dominantly senior adults with a miniscule amount of students. The four pieces that caught my interest are the four movements from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, OP. 55, Eb Major which is also called Sinfonia Eroica. The first movement is called Allegro con brio, the second is Marcia funebre: Adagio assai, the third is Scherzo: Allegro vivace, and the fourth is Finale: Allegro molto. This symphony is is the first piece that Beethoven creates in his Heroic period when he begins to write in his own style to express one ideal of heroism taken after Napoleon.
The first concert I attended was performed by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra had performed Shostakovich’s “Symphony NO. 7, Leningrad” from the Romantic era. The orchestra was a large ensemble (1) containing various instruments that contributed to the overall sound of the piece. Since the orchestra was a large ensemble, just like the instrumentation common in the Romantic era, the orchestra was able to perform in a lively, vigorous manner, probably vivace (2). The orchestra performed tutti
Overall I actually enjoyed the piece more than I thought I would. It had a nice tempo that allowed listeners to be engaged and even when the volume dropped the violins played a softer texture as if they were inviting you to listen closer and pay more attention. Generally, the theme was also joyful which I took notice of and enjoyed. Lastly, I didn’t notice any musical mistakes, and thought the piece was well played.
On Friday, July 10th, I chose virtually to attend an online YouTube Symphony Orchestra Concert-2011. Many beautiful pieces were performed by a magnificent orchestra that included more than sixty participants and consisted of instruments such as: flutes, oboes, horn, clarinets, bassoons, trumpets, percussions and strings. Concert’s selections varied in length, temperament, mood and dynamics. Orchestra Symphony gave an overpowering, extraordinary presentation and delivery.
I have never been personally a fan of the romantic orchestra music but going to listen to a concert live is breathtaking. I attended the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, Masterpieces concert with music director Fouad Fakhouri performing Igor Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No.1 in D major. There was a full stage of musicians and a complete choir to back it up.
In this concert, pop culture takes the stage. When I think of orchestra music Beethoven, Mozart and Tchaikovsky come to mind. It’s refreshing to hear music from the past century being performed by a symphony orchestra in a venue as grand as Jones Hall. Pop music can be worthy of all the status and grandeur typically kept to high culture.
The intensity in each symphony is expressed by the wide range of pitch as the violins played and the horns and the flutes resonate their sound as a response to the string section create a very joyful and pleasant listening experience. At times, the music makes me think I am in a Forrest or by a River or on a journey experiencing the surprises of life or the challenges of it. I can feel each musical instruments timbre and it sets my mood in each section of the symphony, sad or happy the rhythmic tones from the orchestra also sounds like a lullaby at some points of the
This was my first symphony I've been to and I thought it was really interesting and fun. Since this was my first symphony I really didn't know what all to expect, but the quality of the performance exceeded the exceptions I had coming into this. There were several terms I learned in class the was relevant to the performance. I noticed the first terms before the performance started. It was in the program with the terms of Soprano, Alto, and the various instruments listed. Other terms that were prevalent to the performance included concerto with work from the orchestra and soloist, dynamics with the varying loudness and softness, melody with the organized succession of musical tones, tempo with the speed of the music, and several more. The main
Overall, despite what Tchaikovsky believed of his own work at the time of him making his symphony, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire duration of the concert. I believe that classical music concerts are quintessential to any classical music enthusiast because they are much more enjoyable, and much more capable of pulling out your emotion than simply listening to it on your iPod, or the equivalent. I believe that all the sounds that were presented to me perfectly matched up to what my ears craved. I am an advocator of hard work paying off, and it is clear to me that every member of the orchestra perfectly coincided to make sure I had as much enjoyment as possible. I predict that in the future and even after this course, I will be visiting my nearby
I enjoyed this concert. Not only it’s my first time went to a classical music concert, but also the music of this concert that the musicians played were very well. When the movement was change my mood was different. I think it’s totally different feel if you attending a live concert or just watch at home. The atmosphere I was realy enjoyed in that time at the
Overall, I thought that this symphony of Mozart was well played by Orchestra Philharmonic Della Scala. I also think that this is a beautiful piece of music, and it is probable my new favorite symphony. One feature that I really liked about this symphony is the first and the second movements. I like the steady pace of the music and the instruments in the first movement, and I like the calmness of the second movement. One discovery that I have made is how respected the conductor and the pianist are in this concert. I saw how respected Pollini and Muti are at the end of the symphony by when the audience had them keep coming back out to bow to them. Another discovery that I have made is in the third movement. I noticed that it felt like the music
By attending this opera, I think that I can now have a better understanding of what we are learning in class because I have more experience with musical performances. I came into this class with very minimal knowledge on music, but I can now say that can know have a better feeling for types on instruments, tempo, pitch, volume, and frequency. I think that attending an orchestra should be a highly recommended event for music class students because it has many aspects of music placed into
Thus, many people would think that there is no reason to participate actual concerts by spending money. I have the same opinion, even since I have fascinated by some music the orchestra played. The technology like digital records today allows us to listen to high-quality music, or sometimes these have even better quality than real concerts. In fact, the symphony I listed was almost nothing different from the video on YouTube except the feeling in terms of the atmosphere. However, I realized this atmosphere is the most important advantage of actual concert and the reason why still so many people love to listen to music at concert halls. Without these enthusiastic audiences, the field of music has never developed and won’t develop in the future.
I attended the University Symphony Orchestra Concert on Sep 30. Being my first ever symphony orchestra concert, the excitement was at its peak. I learned about the concert before so that I could understand a bit more about what is being played and the history of that piece. Reached UCA before time so that I could find a seat for myself and glance through the program book. When I sat down, there were already musicians on stage who were wearing formal black clothes, some of the musicians started working on the passages they needed to polish up before the performance, with no regard for what anyone else is practicing. With time, the hall started to fill up and just before start, I could see that it’s a full house. I didn’t know that so many people love Symphony. I could see that the number of string instrument were far more then brass or woodwind instrument. As I was observing the musicians I saw my TA Courtney Pham on flutes. The conductor of this concert was Wes Kenny, who came on stage with fourteen years of experience. And also featuring performance by famous Caleb Hudson on trumpet.
