On September 11, 2001, 19 people hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against their targets.. Two of the planes crashed into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., including more than 400 police officers and firefighters. (“9/11 attacks”2010). The conspiracy theories started just days after the September 11, 2001 attack. The conspiracies were easy to spread fast when using the internet and they became more and more elaborate as time went on. The most popular 9/11 conspiracy theory is that 9/11 was orchestrated by the American government.

One of the most controversial events ever to occur is still being talked about to this day. September 11th, 2001 will forever go down in history as one of the most tragic disasters to hit the United States of America. It was heartbreak for all of us to see those towers fall and thousands upon thousands of American lives destroyed. One might ask themselves; didn’t everything get explained a little too quickly? Why did everyone so quickly forget the details to this tragedy? On September 11, 2001 the World Trade Center buildings one and two were attacked. However, who we were attacked by and even if we were attacked is a hard decision to make. There have been many different claims about how everything on that fateful day happened. There are facts that we know are true, though; Flight 11 flew into the North Tower at eight forty- six in the morning. Soon after, Flight 175 attacked the South Tower. By the end of the day, both towers had collapsed and other hijacked flights had caused damage. The amount of lives lost on September 11 was substantial; 2,749 people from eighty-three different countries died from the attacks (Facts about the attacks…, n.d.). All in all, America was changed forever.

Since the terrorist attacks on 9/11, America has been on edge about the topic of terrorism. Groups like Al-Qaeda, Hamas, Taliban, and now more recently, ISIS, has kept the world cautious of their every next move. Looking more closely into how these groups are formed and operate could help us better understand how they can be stopped. Studying the history of terrorist organizations can help us better predict the future of terrorist organizations.

From the US’s point of view, by aiding their nation, it was like giving Hussein’s army each an automated weapon, telling them to fire again. Therefore, by controlling what was given to Iraq was the only way the US knew how to slow them down, and hopefully prevent them from killing again. One of the sources was simply Osama Bin Laden’s declaration of a holy war against the United States of America and another source was the Fatwa of Osama Bin Laden, a fatwa is a ruling on a point of Islamic law given by a recognized authority. The fatwa was a calling for the killing of all and any Americans, this happened in 1998, 3 years before the 9/11 attacks.

September 11th will always be a dreadful day in history. Four American planes were hijacked and used to destroy national landmarks. Some people try to use this sensitive topic to prey on the United States government. They create conspiracies like the Bush Theory and many more to trash our government because it was not prepared for a terrorist attack. The fact is that no nation is ever ready for a group of people to hijack planes and use them to destroy national treasures. The government ordered a huge investigation of these attacks, and they found the truth. That is why the conspiracy theories about the hijackers, the Pentagon, and the twin towers during the September 11th attacks do not withstand the facts.

History has shown many times that a single human being is capable of vast influence among people and/or a society, especially for religious purposes. Generally, when people think about influential leaders tied to a religion, they think of the great leaders that strived for peace and equality for all, such as Mahatma Gandhi. Justly, the big religious figures who were not so great for the world are often not given any credit for being the influential, strong leaders that they were, such as Osama Bin Laden. Obviously no one wants to give props to someone who negatively impacted the world but many times these evil leaders are very similar to their opposites. Morals must be disregarded to make this comparison but it is worth making. As previously mentioned, the comparison going to be made is of polar opposites; Mahatma Gandhi and Osama Bin Laden. They both greatly influenced and affected the world based on actions they took because of their religious beliefs. One practiced Ahimsa, who preached non-violence, and the other one Jihad, who fought a war with non-believers. But which of their two messages was more successful; non-violence or violence? Not successful in regards to humanity or morals, but in influence, leadership, and how long their message resonated. Both religious figures will be evaluated from their beginnings in order to see all their influences and intentions, as well as the situations they were put in that pushed them to make the moves the did.

The United States has been involved in the affairs of the Middle East for decades and they’ve had various reasons for being there, whether it was to wage war or to prevent outside influence that would undermine their own influence in the region, it always seemed to revolve around one thing: oil. As we all know, oil is a very profitable resource and it’s a huge part of many nations’ economies and because this is the case many wars are fought over this black liquid. The U.S. is no different in that they did just about anything to maintain their access to Middle East oil. As a result, United States actions in the Middle East today has been formed through the decades long desire for their oil.
