During the process of becoming successful, people have to try their best to face many difficulties and pushes themselves to overcome a lot of obstacles. People who have different culture, background and living environments have different problems, some of whom should make more efforts to achieve success. This is evident in the book, The Pact, which is a true story, based on the journey of becoming doctors of three people; George Jenkins, Sampson Davis and Rameck Hunt are three young African Americans, who have terrible childhood and spend much time in the projects with a lot of danger. After they try their best to receive education, and get support and inspiration from their family and teachers, all of the three young men end-up becoming successful doctors. Personally, I believe Rameck Hunt is one of the three characters from The Pact, who has to face more difficulties in his life. His over emotional personality and his rough growing environment are most difficult obstacles that he has …show more content…
One example of he is too emotional is he wants to be a rapper with a little preparation. As Rameck was a beginner and does not have enough experience of rap music, he curious about the fascinating music which he likes. He did not realize that rapping is just his hobby, and he never analyzed how many obstacles and problems he had to face after he became a rapper. He fights with a white boy is another example of too emotional. When he has disagreement with a white boy and be infuriate with the boy’s words which is disrespecting, he is too impulse to control his mood and behavior, so he fight with the white boy to release his anger. Even though he is regret after this serious event and recognize that he has to change, the facts which he has to pay the price is unchangeable. In conclusion, because of he is too emotional, that is a difficult obstacle that he has to overcome in order to become
In “THE PACT; “George Jenkins, Sampson Davis, and Rameck Hunt are African young boys that faced a lot of difficulties throughout their teenage life. These boys were raised in a bad neighborhood in Newark New Jersey, and their surroundings where a bad influence on their judgments which made it even harder for them not to get in trouble. They were all struggling financially and money was really hard to get at that time. Their parents tried to help them overpass all the negative things they were exposed to when they were at the same age. These boys were self motivated and they had the ability to inspire each other because
“The Pact” is a piece of nonfiction by Sampson Davis, George Jenkins, and Rameck Hunt it’s about three people grew up in the intercity and made a pact to go to college and become doctors. The theme of “The Pact” is loyalty because the novel demonstrates that quality in many ways. Being loyal means that you don’t turn your back on your friends, and that you will accept your friends for who they are and what they do. If someone is loyal they are faithful and they never give up on something if they truly love it. Loyal also means that you are have good character, and try and help people in need. This novel demonstrates loyalty because Sam, George, and Rameck all show that trait. They are good friends and will
I would recommend, “The Pact: Three young men make a promise and fulfill a dream” to eleventh grade students for several reasons. First factor, throughout this whole novel it gives you a wakeup call. For example, life in college is not that easy as you think, they got in to a lot of trouble, and throughout all that they were given a second chance in life. Second factor, Depicts transition from high school to college. They knew college is different from high school because of their own experience. They struggled throughout college, they financially couldn’t pay their books and other stuff they need to fro their classes. Then, this novel teaches you life lessons. Throughout this novel you will see how hard they had it and they still chased
The novel The Pact which was read over the summer by Penn State students was considered interesting to some and dull to others. I personally enjoyed the book since I could relate to the book in more ways than one. The story takes pace in an inner city setting with three young men who become doctors and plan to give back to the community in any way they possibly can. The three young men are known as Sam, George and Rameck. Each of these characters posses a different personality which contributes to the book as a whole.
After reading The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz I realized I’ve been living dreams of other people in my life and not my own. It was decided early on what I should do, what’s possible and what’s not. Starting at birth we are told what to think by our parents, schools, and church. Subconsciously, we have made agreements with them to live our life according to their rules. Don Miguel believes that these agreements are self-limiting and shares four agreements that if we adapt into our lives we will reach true peace and happiness. The book made so much sense to me, but the hard part is to actually commit to living out the four agreements. In short, the four agreements are listed below:
This essay will discuss how someone's level of future success is determined by the amount and types of extrinsic factors in their lives. Even though this can be argued by people that believe that an individuals success is determined by intrinsic factors which are psychological.Extrinsic factors could be money, things you see in your neighborhood, actions you make.In the book “The Other Wes Moore” you can see that some extrinsic factors had an impact on the success of the both Wes’s because the factors were pushing The Author Wes to succeed and holding down or limiting the Other Wes from succeeding. If both had the same opportunities and help they would have become equally successful they might not both have become authors but they would have
In the textbook The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore, the author illustrates about the lives of two young African-American men who share the same name: Wes Moore. They start their similar childhoods in Baltimore Maryland, with poverty, violence, drug game and fatherlessness. The author Wes Moore (Moore )became a Rhodes Scholar and a best-selling author, but the other Wes Moore ( Wes ) was sentenced to life in prison, The author Moore’s purpose in writing the story is to examine how two people with such similar backgrounds can end up with completely different lives. The author illustrates the way in which our destinies can be dictated by our environments. He claims that without the necessary resources, it is often not possible to make good decisions. He argues how people’s lives are influenced by their environment in which they live.
In the beginning of the novel, Cole Mathews behaves cruelly when he becomes emotional. For example, when the narrative begins, we learn that he is in serious trouble for beating a kid named Peter Driscal up, because Peter divulged the truth about the boy robbing a hardware store. Later on, our main character is sitting in a detention cell as a consequence of his actions and becomes exasperated over not getting what he wants. Hence, he throws an outburst of violence. “[Cole’s] rage ignited. [He] jumped to his feet and stormed across the cell. He tipped over his metal-framed bed and started hitting the wall harder and harder. Soon blood from his scraped knuckles smeared the concrete.” (Mikaelsen 25). During those episodes, the protagonist and oddly enough the antagonist becomes very displeased, but also very scared and sad.
Due to all the chaos and issues that World War I and the Red Scare brought, it would be difficult for President Harding to maintain peace when he was elected in 1921. It can definitely be said that he helped benefit the nation and the world with the Kellogg-Briand Pact and Fordney-McCumber Tariff. The Kellogg Pact basically stated that all European Powers and the United States agreed to destroy all tools of war they had, and war was no longer allowed to be known as a national policy. On top of that, the McCumber Tariff raised American imports by 60%, bringing in tons of wealth to the economy.
Some might be obstacles that one might face and others may be internal, or even both. Amir experiences some very difficult obstacles that a normal twelve year old boy would not have to deal with. One of the biggest problems that Amir faced was when he saw his best friend, Hassan, get raped by another boy named Assef. Amir sees what is happening and decides to run away because he is scared of what might happen to him if he tries to stop Assef from hurting Hassan. “ In the end, I ran. I ran because I was a coward. I was afraid of Assef and what he would do to me. I was afraid of getting hurt”(77). This was a turning point in Amir’s life because he realized that he was making a mistake and he would not help his best friend even though Hassan would do anything for him. Many people have
Dragon World is going to build their theme park in France, which area occupies some areas of three cities, Micardie, Trambrai, and Soullens. This negotiation was between two parties, French mayors and Dragon World Company. Our group represents French side. The purpose of the negotiation is to settle the issues to another party, including financial demands, press release, visa and employment, community planner and permit. I am one of mayors, Micardie, and negotiate issues of financial compensation and press release with other party.
Another experience that caused Amir’s internal conflict is the rape of Hassan. When Amir wins the kite fighting tournament, Hassan runs for the last cut kite and yells to Amir “for you a thousand times over!” In doing this, Hassan comes across Assef who is also trying to receive the last kite. Hassan refuses to give up the kite because he is loyal to Amir. This is when Amir turns up to witness Hassan getting raped by Assef. Amir makes the decision to run away because he was not strong enough to step in and save Hassan. This decision causes Amir to become something that his father fears: “a boy who won’t stand up for himself, becomes a man who won’t stand up for anything.” With this lingering in his mind, it brews up an internal conflict that Amir then knows he must do something about. He must redeem himself for his actions as a child. With Amir’s internal conflict about the rape of Hassan and the decision he made, it helps the reader understand the key theme of redemption.
We all have different definitions of success. Most people allow their definition of “success” to de driven by someone or something else (status quo), for in Ragged Dick by Haratio Alger written in 1868, the protagonist Dick also last known as Richard Hunter looked at what someone else thought of a success and tried to attain it. This book tells about a poor boy struggles to become a success. Although Haratio Alger emphasizes the importance of pluck, luck and virtue, in attaining success, it is clear that success also depends on who you know, how you look, and what you are willing to change. Even though Fosdick had courage, what really mattered is how and who got him there. I think that as far as achieving success and happiness, it should be
I side with you that students should have a voice in creating a social contract. As teachers we need to find ways to manage our class on this is definitely a great strategy that we can utilize it. When we work as a team both the teacher and student were are able to accomplish more making learning fun and productive at the same time.
Being in poverty, and not having parents who are successful, may be why Earl cannot become successful. Simply because while growing up success seemed so far out of reach. This could give Earl the idea that success just isn’t possible for him, because it didn’t happen to the people who raised him. It didn’t happen to the people who raised him because his father let alcoholism prevent him from being successful, and it didn’t happen to his mother because of the situation she had been put in at a young age, with kids, a horrible husband, and surely other reasons that can come along with those things. Although earl does not have the same problems that his parents did or do when it comes to things that prevent them from becoming successful, he lets their struggles of becoming successful prevent himself from overcoming his struggles of becoming successful. Earl lets his lack of perseverance, and inability to realize his potential get in the way of him being successful. If earl could see the potential in himself that others see in him, and realize that he needs to not just give up on his aspirations and continue to strive, he would use that potential and perseverance in the right ways and become successful. Instead, he lets these things stand in the way of success just like his parents let things stand in the way of their success. I feel Russel Banks made a good representation of this problem, as it seems that people in real life are also to stubborn to change the things
