Sex offenders and predators commit despicable acts; however, their acts seem more despicable when they are committed upon the most venerable members of our society, our children. Even with the new Jessica Lunsford legislation in Florida some citizens feel that it is not enough to keep their communities safe. I conducted a quasi-experimental research design comparing the data of students that completed the redesign course to students taking the original course. The results from this study indicated a decrease in the failure rates for student participating in the redesigned course by 5%. Another concern that influenced this study was the number of grade appeals received for this course. For this course, I would receive 40 to 50 grade appeals per year. For all other courses, I might receive one or two grade appeals per year. The research results found that students’ satisfaction with their instructor’s behavior and their overall opinion about the course increased after the course redesign was implemented. Now, I might receive one grade appeal a year for this course.

In our class’s multi-week policy summit, the class in it’s several small groups and interest centers, crafted several policies and suggestions aimed at moving Appalachia past it’s dependance on coal. The variety of characters at the summit from all different backgrounds lead to many view points coming together to hash out proposals that were equally agreed upon from all in that particular interest group. In this research I will conduct a non-experimental design with cross sectional collection of data. I will conduct research on the influencing factors that can bring on or increase the presence of delinquency in adolescents. There could be several factors contributing to delinquency however, I narrowed it down to childhood mistreatment, neighborhood shortcomings and lack of monitoring in adolescents. I focused on a non-experimental design because I am not trying to control or manipulate or alter certain variables or subjects to come to a conclusion. I want to examine the different factors that have presented themselves within each participant’s life and compare that to the theories of delinquent behavior.
