The Wise Virgin (See Figure 19) is based on the parable of the virgins told by Jesus in Matthew 25:1-13. In the story, ten virgins are waiting for the arrival of their bridegroom. They do not know when the groom is coming, but five of the virgins bring oil for their lamps and are ready for his arrival. The other five do not bring oil to keep their lamps filled, and so when the groom arrived at midnight, they were not ready and were not allowed to go to the wedding feast. (Matthew 25:1-13) The story is typified as an example of the Second Coming of Christ- Jesus is the bridegroom, while the virgins are the world. It illustrates the need for the church to be ready for His coming at any time, since there is not telling when that coming will be.
The parable of the Virgins has long been a fascinating one for me. It centers on women, and how their actions help them succeed in attaining the prize- going with the bridegroom. I researched traditional Jewish weddings, and found that this story was not just a tale- it was based in the tradition that the groom would go and “prepare a place” for him and his bride in his fathers’ house, and that when the place was completed, he would return for the bride. This could be any moment. There would be a great procession, with people holding lamps (this is possibly what the virgins were going to be doing, if they were not brides themselves) to light the way for the wedding couple to go to the feast.

Telecommunication is a term that is used to refer to any communication that is long-range. In the current digital age, telecommunication relates to the use of electronic devices that facilitates communication between electronic devices, computers, and people. Several technologies complement telecommunication devices and make them work efficiently. The basis behind this technology is the ability to convert signals that contain infinite values (Borschke 63). The most common theme is that these analog themes present endless possibilities. Digital objects and signals deal in the realm of the finite or discrete, implying that there is a limited set of values they can be. The electronic devices have to interact with the real analog in some ways, but most of the devices, for instance,
This passage refers to the actions of the narrator. He reveals that he spent the night of the wedding with a prostitute and awoke to the ringing of the bells which he assumed were being sounded for the arrival
When one first thinks of mythology the first things that first come to mind are probably stories of Greek gods and goddesses, and the humans that prayed to them. We often forget that mythology does not end or begin with the Greeks. Authors have been using mythology for many would say centuries as a source for symbols, characters, situations, or images that conjures up universal feedback. In the case of “The Virgin Suicides” by Jeffrey Eugenides one of the archetypes that we see play out throughout the novel is the one of The Virgin Mary. The Virgin Mary in “The Virgin Suicides” represents a sense of foreshadowing at the beginning and towards the end of the book, provide an allegory between the Libson girls and The Virgin Mary, and help
In order to test these suppositions, the researchers undertook several room cultures studies to examine, monitor and evaluate adolescent media consumption habits. This resulted in the following model, which conceptualizes the three most significant dimensions of mass media uses and effects.3
This book was meant to fill in the holes left by the Bible by providing stories that more or less led to the important portions of the Bible. According to this book, a number of suitors wanted Mary’s hand in marriage, she resolved this issue by giving each suitor a rod. Whoever’s rod was to flower at the tip would have her hand in marriage. In this case, Saint Joseph’s rod miraculously grew small flowers from his rod and they were set to marry at the temple henceforth. Joseph is the man portrayed with the flowered rod and the golden drape upon his shoulder gently placing a ring on Mary’s ring finger as the other suitors look on begrudgingly. One of the suitors is so bothered by the outcome that he proceeds to break the rod with his knee. A group women stand behind Mary as witnesses to the marriage and others are sprawled in the background minding their own business. In the middle is the priest whom is officiating over the marriage of these two individuals. In the background we have the glorious temple, which becomes the scene of the
We are at this era where we can sit and type something out which could be accessed by anyone who is online. New media such as blogging, social media and the internet creates this possibility.
Watching TV while having morning coffee, listening radio on the way to work, checking Facebook before work, tweeting in the lunch break, and googling information related to work; that is the way the new modern media has changed our lives. To understand the term modern media more, Debashis Aikat(n.d.), Associate Professor and Media Futurist, has come up with a definition, “Modern media refers to mass communication characteristic of recent times, or the contemporary communication relating to a recently developed or advanced technology(Aikat, n.d.)” So that basically means that modern media is the media which is connected to new technologies. Nowadays
Implicit simply implies the problem, letting one ponder and figure out the facts for themselves. Whereas, explicit straight out tells one the problem, giving all the facts, then telling one to decide.
In ‘What is Media In the Digital World?’ by Nelson Granados digital media is described by this quote: “While earning my communications degree, I was taught that media is communicating via television, print, and radio. The idea or content could be in the form of video, print, or audio and it could be fiction or non-fiction. It could be professionally produced or non-professional (think public access). I think that definition still applies to the term media in the digital age, but it has been expanded to include online and social media.” Media can be the message itself, especially for those who create and own rights to content.
It was finally here. It was their wedding day and everyone was excited. The morning had been filled with the hustle and bustle of getting ready for the big day. The girls and guys had separated the night before, sleeping in different hotel rooms, since they all believed in old wedding superstitions, such as not seeing your lover before entering the church. They definitely did not want to risk the chance of getting bad luck.
This mystery brings to life the splendor of Gods covenant with us. The bride and groom remain anonymous to signify Jesus’s position as the bridegroom and the Church as the bride on a spiritual level. Pope Benedict XVI makes a beautiful connection between the Wedding and The Song of the Vineyard in Isaiah 5. He parallels the fruits of vineyard with the fruits of marriage. In the Song, the vineyard produces bad fruit because the Bride, which he interprets as Israel, is unfaithful. God returns to give his son to tend to the vineyard. Jesus is the bridegroom so we may be apart of the covenant and produce good fruit. Jesus preforms the miracle on the seventh day of his opening week which is the number of completion and perfection. His presence makes marriage a
"Then the virgin will rejoice in the dance, And the young men and the old, together, For I will turn their mourning into joy And will comfort them and give them joy for their sorrow. 1 Samuel 18:6 It happened as they came, when David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with
With her past of being married five times she has had many people criticize her saying that in all the marriages she has had which husband has you. The virginity is lost long ago and so are you with it. She claims in line 26 of the prologue that even though the virginity is the most important someone has to be procreating to create new virgins. What is wrong in being with five husbands if men are allowed to be with multiple women at the same time why
From the early days of the internet, Napster first introduced the globe to digital music with easy accessibility, and has been morphing and developing with time. With hefty copyright lawsuits underway, a number of successors have reattempted to design music-sharing platforms that acquiesce to consumer demands, while also limiting the damage to artists and the music industry as a whole. With a number of well-recognizable investors and supporters, Spotify emerged in 2008 and had arguably grown into the most formidable entity in the realms of digital music.
During the Middle Ages, the positive qualities of virginity were practically universally agreed upon by both secular and non secular authorities. However, the main purpose of virginity was in debate between the two. Religious authorities saw virginity as a path towards salvation, “a treasure to be locked away and promised only to the Divine Bridegroom, Christ”(Heckel). It was a way to keep the obscenities of life on earth from spoiling the soul, and allowed a woman to distance herself from the “distractions of worldly existence and hopefully, therefore, sin”(Heckel). Secular authorities, on the other hand, saw virginity as something to be guarded and kept, but eventually given away in a legal and faithful marriage. In a time long before
