This basic feature of the Christian message brings the growing sense of unease within some in Paul’s audience (Fernando, p. 476). However, Paul’s strategy of reasoning with the Athenians is instructive of the gospel message. His message does not contain direct quotations or appeals to the Old Testament (Fernando, p. 476). However, such appeals would have meant nothing to his audience, who did not accept the authority of the Scriptures. But, the message was thoroughly scriptural (Fernando, p. 476). Paul uncovers the Athenians’ admitted need for the knowledge of the one true God.

It seems strange that so little is known biographically about one of the most important figures in Christian history, but this only serves to add to the mystery and grandeur surrounding the Apostle Paul of Tarsus. Much, however, is known of the time after his conversion to Christ and what he did to contribute to Christianity in this period, and it is this that leaves a greater legacy than the simple facts of his life. The contributions that he made towards the cause of Christ and the spreading and formation of Christianity are what he is perennially remembered for.
Our source of knowledge of the apostolic work of Paul comes first from the Book of Acts. The epistles written by Paul serve to further our knowledge of his mission. These letters were written to churches that he had founded or churches that were known to him. Luke’s account of Paul introduces us to the basic facts about this important biblical figure. A more complete understanding of Paul’s journeys can be gleaned from his letters. These epistles were written almost at the time they occurred and they comprise some of the earliest works contained in the New Testament.

The second thing that stands out to me for these reasons is found in verse 6 "The evidence of Christ has been clearly verified in your lives." (pg. 1771) This statement doesn't make sense to me, how are the lives of Corinthians fits this statement where Peterson made an introduction stating "Corinthians brought their reputations with them right into the church." As I read along chapter 1 and 2 Paul is mostly addressing the issues of Corinthians. Considering as a part of setting the mood of the readers not to offend them directly, but Paul is also direct in his points. What I think of this, Paul is sincere in his greetings addressing to Corinthians. Though in the midst of conflict and issue he still didn't lose his focus in Christ, Paul was able to communicate with then in pure thoughts and intention. A major situation confronting Paul during ancient times was trying to make sense of the barriers between Jews and Gentiles. Ultimately, the solution to breaking the barrier comes through Christ alone. Christ died for all humankind not just one kind. This view of Christ as the true solution is also the answer to the oppositions in the book of Romans. Two major oppositions are seen in Romans 8:1-11, between good and evil and spirit and flesh. Paul, who confronts many issues in Rome, cannot resolve these oppositions. Rather, "he proclaims liberation from the existential rupture in human nature, formulated by means of the figures that express opposition between flesh and the spirit, through participation in Christ."
