As a Spanish speaking native, I had difficulty with writing essays in English. I grew up taking English classes throughout all my school life, in Puerto Rico, but it was just basic level. My last English college course was with a US 5th grade book, so you can imagine how basic was that course. It was a drastic change from that type of course to this level of English Composition. This course, albeit short, has teaches me a lot about the mechanics and grammar that writing an essay entails. Before this course, I use to choose the topic, looked some of the information I needed it, and started writing without a goal or any definition, in terms of process. Now, I know that I have to choose the topic, do the research, develop a thesis statement, outline …show more content…
When I first saw it as one of the task for the week, I was shock and didn’t know what to do or how to do it. The guideline questions help me a lot to see what I normally wouldn’t pay attention to. In evaluating my peers essay I learnt a lot about what I could do to better myself on my own writing, also I learnt to disconnect myself and evaluate my paper as of someone else written it. I was able to see different styles of writing and learn about different topics throughout these five weeks. Other advantage of peer review process is that the readers may not know anything about your topic, but by the time they finish it, they should understand what you’re talking about, this gives you something to keep in mind when you are writing essay. One of the disadvantage of peer review that I could see is that we are all learning at the same time; and even though the suggestions, and comments might be well intendent sometimes they are not always accurate. We are all on the same boat, I apologize if I made any mistakes with my suggestions, and I appreciate all you guys help me during the peer reviews. This is a process that I’m going to use when I have to write a paper on my other courses from this day
English class has never been my strong suite. I always had to work twice as hard in English then I did in any other class. Writing paper always had me stressed and overwhelmed, I felt discouraged in my work. l never seemed to be able to get to the level I wanted to. I would try my hardest and paid attention in class, but when it came to writing the paper none of that seemed to help. I think that my experience in English Composition 1 has helped gain and grow in some areas, but I don’t think that it highlights a well-written college essay. Some elements that I worked to improving was introduction paragraphs, tone, style, and thesis statements.
English Composition I has developed my style of writing and my skills analyzing and researching topics to write a piece about a topic. Throughout the course, I got better at analyzing articles and pieces to get the meaning of the topic. With that improved skill I was more able to use the information given from the text and install it into my essays, with proper citation if needed. Before taking the English Composition course, I was not one to organize my essays in an ordeal order to clearly state the point of the work. Now with taking the course, I have learned to organize my essays, examine research for a topic, and develop an essay with proper mechanics, and revising skills. In writing my personal, review, analytical, and cultural
Essays have always seemed like just another assignment. Rarely did I like doing them and most of the time I did not like the prompt. Essays were straight forward and very dull. You were given a question about something in class and told to write about it. So far college English has been different. The class takes an abstract point of attack. There is still a prompt but is about more complex and controversial issues. This would have to make me think critically and in an unorthodox manner. This, however, was not my main worry. At the beginning of the year I had two major concerns going into a college level English class. Grammar and mechanics, those are the two words that have always been brought up in parent-teacher conferences or written in red ink on my paper. I was not very worried about making a thesis or analyzing quotes. One thing I rarely did in high school was revision. It was either last minute or I thought the essay was already good enough. The first essay was proof of a lack of revisions. The prompt asked us to take our rough draft, revise it, than make more revisions to that paper so that it can become your final copy. I did not make an attempt to do a revised copy. I did however revise my first draft and went straight the final essay. During this process my analyzing could always be more in depth (clarity was also an issue through out primary and secondary education). Although receiving a slightly better grade on my first paper, it had more mistakes and had less
The first step in your writing process is to just sit and think. If your essay is on an assigned topic, sit and think about what approach you will have to the subject, if it’s possible to take a position on it. If you are allowed to decide on the topic, you can take it in any direction and decide on a purpose. This purpose can be to tell someone how to do something, present information you have collected on your favorite subject, or even entertain the audience who will be reading it. Once who have brainstormed some ideas, examine each
Writing essays have never been easy for me. Describing my thoughts and feelings just don't seem to turn into the right words I want to say. Coming up with a theme and an argument is hard to convey, making the reader see what I'm truly trying to say. The hardest parts of writing essays for me is coming up with the right things to say that correlate to my argument and doing so under a short period of time.
Part 1: My writing process itself is pretty simple. I do not follow the normal writing process. I start off by stringing random thoughts together. I then write a draft of my thoughts, and my draft usually ends up to be the size of my essay. Next, I do not revise too much, I just make sure that I stay on topic, and that everything makes sense. Finally, I edit and proofread my essay making sure that I did not miss anything in previous steps. I did not face many issues while writing, but there were a few. My first issue was using transitional words. I feel as if I am always searching for transition words. Another difficult part to writing my essay was vocabulary. Sometimes, I feel myself not using enough intricate words. Also, I have a problem with grammar. I do not always catch grammar mistakes while I am writing. I often have to read my passage three or more times just to get my grammar mostly correct. Although I try my hardest to get better, these are some of my downfalls. Now, I can reflect on the easiest part of my essay. The easiest part for me is finding something to write about. I try to pick topics that I know a lot about, and I try to pick topics that
The most difficult part as a writer just beginning is the use of proper grammar, and punctuation. Grammar can affect the entire essay if it's not used correctly. Improving my critical thinking will enhance my writing. The writing process isn't always the easiest thing to accomplish. Drawing attention to the essay is important. There are several ways to drawing attention, and accomplishing a overall good essay.
Typically, after being assigned an essay, my first step used to be sitting in front of the computer and starting to type aimlessly with no specific goal in my mind. This process usually ends up taking hours, and I do not end up accomplishing much at the end. This year, I plan to formulate a new process that will hopefully improve my writing exceptionally. Breaking down the essay writing into pieces will result in quality content. The writing process that I devised incorporates some of the basic elements of writing such as: prewriting, revising, and editing.
Writing has never been easy for me. When it comes to writing, my level of confidence is low. Being bilingual has its ups and downs; it is a gift, but sometimes it is hard for me to articulate exactly what I mean in English. In the past, I wrote essays because they were a requirement, but I did not enjoy it. When I had to write my first university-level essay, I was very nervous because I thought my writing was not good enough. When I finished writing that paper, I felt a sense of accomplishment just from completing it. My perspective changed once I gained a little courage, and I felt ready to practice my writing and eventually grow as a writer.

For this paper I chose to look for a peer review study that I could relate to. There are a lot of things that we grow up around and don 't really notice the impact that happens around us. I am a science major in college so I have been doing experiments a long time. After reading this study I was very intrigued about how they conducted and executed their experiment in this study. I the article I read was “ An Avenue for Challenging Sexism: Examining the High School Sociology Classroom.” This article was very interesting to me. I went to a small school so we didn 't have sociology classes. It is very interesting to see their approach to teaching about gender. In this paper I will be examining the purpose and goal of this article.
When I first started taking this class, I had a hard time writing my essays. The main reason I had a rough time was because the last time I had written an essay was in my freshman year of high school. I have improved on many things along the way. I now continue to improve even more. One major aspect that I have improved on is my revision process.
learning how to write essays can help us develop different skills and how much does that affect
As advancements are made in science and technology that relates to the care of patients, it is critical for nurses to be aware of the treatments that have been proven to be evidence-based. Systematic research reviews (SRR) are considered to have the highest ranking or level of evidence falling under level 1 evidence for reliability, validity, and least amount of error (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2015, p.607). The aim of this paper is to critique the chosen SRR related to core temperature obtainment in children, relevance of the research problem to nursing practice, rigor of the research found in the SRR to include levels of evidence and designs of included studies, the clarity of findings, summarized findings in the SRR, and the implications for practice.
My experience with English has changed drastically from middle school to college. Being in middle school I have really had to do much of a big paper, but as I progressed through college I’ve realized there much more that has to be added. I had always wondered why middle school was so easy but as years went on, I realized that advancing to college there’s a lot more requirements and importance to writing. In middle school, I was young and just starting to really realize what an essay was and after high school I really understood what an essay consists of. No matter how
