When a Controller Got Controlled Have you ever faced this kind of situation? You are an organizer of something, let’s say a band. You look for places to perform, you coordinate the rehearsal time and you buy all the necessary equipment for the band. However, some of the band members always come late to your rehearsals, and other members complain it’s not fair that they need to wait for the tardy ones and waste their time. You want to make your members happy, so you announce that anyone who comes late to the rehearsal will be kicked out from the band. But one day a girl called Susie just breaks up with her boyfriend and comes late to the rehearsal. You have no idea about Susie’s relationship issues of course. You don’t offer her any comfort, but kick her out of your band instead. Everything seems reasonable because …show more content…
The difficulty is that it’s hard to find a balance between my classmates and my teachers. No matter which side you choose, there is always someone left unhappy. And most of the time that someone is …show more content…
If I’m the controller, then I need to have a sense of control of the situation instead of being controlled. I would come up with a plan first before my teachers told me what to do, and then negotiated the plan with the teachers from my classmates’ perspective so the plan could be easier to be accepted by them. After the plan was made, I would explain the plan to my class and be willing to hear any advices but not complains, and interestingly, no one would speak at this time. Conflict solved. Because when you act actively, others can see your confidence and are more willing to listen to you, and eventually I found the key to stay clean and efficient is to isolate myself as a third party, become active, tell people what to do instead of asking them what they what to
Students in the classroom come from a variety of backgrounds. Their lives are shaped by their families, their communities, but also their peers in school whom they will spend hours a day with throughout their educational career. The ability to form relationships with others, to create lasting friendships that grow and evolve with time, is detrimental to all children and their development. Lacking the ability to do so, whether it is directly because of their conditions or because of how other students perceive them, can dramatically harm them emotionally and mentally.
The challenges I go through on a daily basis is bulling from other students, being called names by my brother, myself not thinking positively, me not staying calm in situations, etc. The way I find strength to help me through my challenges is my mostly my parents, and my parents are, my mom Sue, and my dad
However, for this schoolyear, I was put in a group with three other students, Emma, Mia, and Lucy, who do not share my same beliefs and experiences. Emma is involved in a variety of activities including numerous AP classes. As a result, she has trouble with her time commitment and I knew from the start, working with her might be a challenge; however, I hoped for the best since she usually tries to commit to her schoolwork. Mia is involved in with the spirit team, and she dedicates a lot of her time to both the team and to her job. Despite her busy schedule, she is in the top five percent of the class and hopes that this class with be an easy GPA boost. Lucy is on the volleyball team, and even though it is time consuming she prioritizes school before her other activities. Both Lucy and I are in the class because of our interest in science and the possibility for a future career. School has always been my priority and my
Control Theory is the theory of support. This theory demonstrates an individual's social bonds in relation to their performance. Since certain bonds are stronger in certain kinds of lifestyles the affects will be different in all situations. Control theorists believe “in the rationality of the criminal act that the individual behaves in a criminal manner for ordinary reasons, and this behavior arises out of the person’s own free will” (Moyer, 2001, 133). However, deviant behavior is prevalent in today’s society. It is a major problem concerning adolescents all across the world. This theory carries serious paternalistic roles.
I want to have an orderly classroom environment. This leadership style is student-centered, but recognizes that students need guidelines to feel comfortable and that is very important to me. I am normally the leader that can have fun, but also know how to take authority. I want to practice more of being balanced because not only will help me become a better responsible leader, but a role model to the children in the center. A few things I want to work on is building better relationship with the students and communication with them, make sure I am specific with them directions and expectations so the classroom will run better and I myself will become a better individual an letter for my classroom. So, some steps I would take to work more towards this leadership style would be to analyze what I am doing now (1st month), see what I need to change, then see how my style has effect the classroom (2nd month), but then I would want to have a discuss with the students (3rd month). The discussion with the students will allow relationships to develop stronger and for the expectations to be set for the children. Since, the discussion had taken place I would want make that I am being organized and that I am holding students responsible for their actions (4th month). The following month (5th month) would be to make any changing that would benefit yourself and the children are working together in a positive manner. Then, for myself would be to maintain the new leadership style and even become better a leader for the children in my classroom (6th month.). I want my students to remember me someone that made an impact on them and they actually cared about them and was a positive influence for
When control is expressed through media, it often depicts the relationship between balance and stability. In the novel Brave New World, the World State Controllers create a method of hypnosis control that conveys the relationship between balance and stability. Similarly, in the film Wall-E, the mechanical autopilot creates a form of hypnosis control that conveys the relationship between balance and stability. While the film and the novel were created for different audience ages, both explore how control creates a codependent relationship between stability and balance. This relationship is analogous to the domino effect. The individual domino pieces are all placed in an order that requires control. When the first domino loses its control, it will
In a world plagued by promiscuity and drug addiction the World State was designed to be a perfect world. Everyone in society is conditioned to be happy while indulging in instant pleasure. Aldous Huxley’s novel, Brave New World, depicts a civilization that is controlled by an overly powerful government that conditions its citizens to be happy through the use of over medication. The society in Huxley’s world is ruled by an overly powerful government.
When students feel excluded or not part of, academic achievement decreases (Brown, 2007). The importance of a positive student-to-teacher relationship is critical in order for students to succeed and find themselves fit in the world of academia (Anderson, Nelson, Richardson, Web, & Young, 2011). Interestingly, the data gathered from this study is consistent with previous research on barriers to student achievement. Anderson et al., (2011) goes on to suggest that there is a direct correlation between student behavior, positive or negative, and the teacher’s relationship with a student. When considering this, it must be understood that the relationship between the student and teacher, whether positive or negative, contribute to students’ academic outcomes and sense of belonging.
1.2 Research Aims and Objectives The aims and objectives of this dissertation are to determine whether the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 has successfully addressed the issues that surrounded the defence of provocation. This will enable a determination to be made as to whether victims of domestic violence are now able to raise the defence of loss of self-control more easily and whether better protection is now being provided to those suffering from domestic violence and battered women’s syndrome. The development of case law concerning provocation will be critically analysed in order to understand the effectiveness of the new loss of control defence.1.3 Research Problem Although the introduction of a new loss of control defence was intended to rectify this area of the law, it seems as
Some people may say that having control over someone or something can bring satisfaction and a sense of power. In the an article called “Gunman Kills Himself After Hostage Drama (584)” written by Charles P. Wallace and Tim Waters loss of control and the feeling of being helplessness makes Robert B. Rose commit a last act of asserting control over himself. In another article written by Martin E.P. Seligman called “On Learned Helplessness (585)” the feeling of loosing control of oneself is something that can cause someone to do things that they thought they would never do. What is hard to understand is that some of the things the someone may commit may implicate the lives of others in a negative way and the ending result could be death.
There have been so many amazing things that I have experienced in my life already. I look forward to each new experience I may have an opportunity to have. Each day is a victory, a challenge, and a success story. Every day is a gift and you should take full advantage of everyday you are given. Unfortunately, we all miss some of the best moments in life by being so concerned about control life.
Like it or not, there has always been diversity among students in the classroom. It is the fact that each and every student is unique. From every circumstance, students bring a varying set of values, perspectives, and beliefs to the learning environment. Understanding the character of students is important in order to become a competent teacher. In fact, teachers should be aware and recognize students, as unique individuals, all acquire information differently than others. Some of these differences are due to developmental variations in cognitive, physical, intellectual, moral, emotional, and social changes caused by maturation and experience. And this reality of classroom conditions makes instruction much more challenging for teachers and
However, I have to admit that eliminating the influence of personal biases and values in working with diverse in-class groups turned out to be one of the most challenging aspects of my learning experience. I learned and understood how
As a future educator there are many ideas or philosophies on how teachers should teach students. Students learn best when they are able to relate to the material that is being taught. Cohen (1999) writes, “This educational philosophy stresses that students should test ideas by active experimentation. Learning is rooted in the questions of learners that arise through experiencing the world” The curriculum is based on the needs, ability, and experiences that the student has. From the curriculum, teachers create lessons that influence their students to actively participate and encourage development. The teacher is merely an organizer who offers encouragement as well as prompting the students to use critical thinking skills by challenging them with questions. Students then use this skill to cooperate in groups as well as discuss view point that they may not agree with. This form of duel communication is a skill that allows the student to become more comfortable with their social skills as well as team working.
The purpose of this case study is to describe and analyse the features of the management control system (MCS) of University of Southern California (USC). Before commencing the analysis a brief background of USC is provided.
