Snip! Snip! You hear that? That’s the noise I will be making within the next two years. It’s a fact. This class has helped me realize that I have been off course now for about two years. Generally, I wanted to be a nurse and that’s the pathway I was following, until now. I realized while taking the ACA 090 class that I was following the nursing path for all the WRONG reasons, which was for one: money and two: because my mom has always pushed nursing….always. In other words, I was way off course. As I sat in the cosmetology department at our school, my heart grew fond of it and then my view on my education changed tremendously. As you read this paper, I will tell you about me finding my way to the light at the end of this tunnel I was traveling! Enjoy! The day I realized I wanted to be a cosmetologist, I came up with a plan that consisted of several steps I needed to take in order to put it in action. Well, the first step was to meet with my advisor. I had to tell her that my class, ACA 090 has opened my eyes and made me realize I was presuming the …show more content…
Is this where I want to be? Is there anything I can do better? I will know when I am back on course when I am checking things off my list that is leading me to my dream of being a cosmetologist. I will know I am back on course when I have clients in a chair in front of me every day and I come home happy because I actually enjoy what I do every day. I will know I am at the end, and successful when I am handling the relationships I have with my peers, and clients with skill as a cosmetologist, and with harmony. Like I said before, the clients is what’s going to keep me in business and that’s who I need to be able to please. Also, my peers are going to help me grow as a cosmetologist so I need to appreciate the relationship there just as much. This career is at the tips of my hands, all I need to do is get a grip and reel it
Nursing is more than traveling room to room, patient to patient, to provide medical care. Nursing is about treating the patient with the utmost respect and compassion. It’s more than providing medical care, but supporting the patient and family. Being a nurse only requires a bachelor degree and a “RN” badge, however, a great nurse possesses that knowledge, along with determination, a positive attitude, compassion, and patience. I believe that I display these characteristics and have a true passion for helping others. Throughout high school, I always had an interest in the medical field and biology. In my junior year, I decided to enroll in the CNA course to pursue my passion for nursing early on. Through this class, I experienced moments of self discovery
A person in this career field definitely needs to be an outgoing person because this occupation requires being around a lot of people. They need to have customer service skills and be a polite and pleasant person. A cosmetologist needs to have good listening skills because when a client comes in they are going to have requests and needs that the stylist is going to need to meet. They want to be creative and keep up with the latest hair trends that their clients are going to want. A cosmetologist needs to be very organized and have time management skills. They have to keep track of schedules and make sure they can get through with a client on time to get started with the next one (“Summary”). A good life experience to have would be being able to actually do other’s hair and makeup and making sure you are always learning new styles. Getting to know how to talk to all kinds of people is another good experience because you never know how temperamental some people can
My goal since day one of high school was to join and complete the Certified Nursing Assistant license’s program. I kept my grades up all years and my attendance sharp so I would be a step ahead of other applicants. Before I knew it, I was starting senior year which meant it was time to turn in my application. The application had many questions; the normal ones like who, what, and why. I turned the application into the teacher and the wait began to see if I was accepted. Little did I know that this was the first of many anxious waits this year. Completing my goal of becoming a licensed CNA would become one of the most nerve racking process in my life.
In my current role as a nurse educator I feel the desire to pursue my dream of obtaining a master’s degree, specializing in nursing education. It has been 27 years since I have sat in the student chair in a classroom; therefore, I anticipate a number of challenges and barriers to overcome. In this paper I will present and describe three challenges that I expect to be faced with over the next two years. I will also discuss the strategies I plan to use to address these challenges.
Over the course of the conference, I was able to spend many hours at different workshops that gave me the information and tools that I need to integrate in my success as a student and future nurse. I plan to use the knowledge that I’ve gained to help jumpstart my career, goals and plans for the future.
Cosmetology is a very artistic career. Cosmetology is the study and application and the beauty treatment. Branches of specialty ranges anywhere between hairstyling, skin care, cosmetics, manicures/pedicures and electrology. A person that is employed in this career would cut, style, dye and wash their clients hair the way that the client wants it. Plus, they have the skills to do professional manicures and pedicures with a special design if that is what the client wants.
I have always enjoyed helping people who are less fortunate. I am the type of person who volunteers to read to children who are alone during certain holidays. But one specific even completely changed how I want to help people. In June 2011, I moved back to Colorado and decided to pursue a career in cosmetology. It was a lot of fun and I definitely had a knack for it, but I always felt like something was missing. To me, it honestly started to get kind of boring but I continued my education and continued to thrive in my success as a Paul Mitchell Cosmetology Student. On Feburary 3rd 2012 I had a very important cutting assessment, and it would also be the day I got an emergency called that changed everything. I got an emergency call during my
Throughout the past couple of months, I have done a lot of research on people in their life long career as well as what it takes to be in these careers. Through interviewing many different people and reading many articles, I feel I am ready to enter the adult workforce because of my values and the way I view others. Despite this, this class has shown me that there is still more I have to learn for the future. When I finish school, I would like to become an orthodontist and open my own practice, being the employer rather than the employee. On the other hand, during college, I will still have other jobs where I am employed by someone else. I feel these jobs can help me to be the best boss possible for my employees. In particular, this class
Throughout my high school career I have taken many advanced Science and Mathematics courses that will prepare me for my studies in college, by providing a strong foundation in core concepts that are crucial for a career in nursing. I have also advanced my knowledge of health care professions, and nursing concepts by participating in the Health Occupations Students of America club at my high school advancing to regional, area, and state competitions. I have also prepared myself academically by taking more challenging college level classes in high school earning college credit while still maintaining exceptional
When my sister came to me yelling as loud as her voice could hold, about how she dropped out of college and abandoned her goal of pursuing a nursing degree, my heart stopped immediately. With her eyes watering and her hands shaking, I knew that she was overwhelmed with stress. At that moment, I instantly realized that my interest in the health care field needed to become a reality. It challenged me to step into a career where others assume that dreams in the nursing field for minority students is impossible. Getting up every morning as a PEOPLE scholar in the summer, feeling as if I were still in school, I was living my dream as a health care manager with an internship in the health care field. I was learning about different strategies to promote professionalism, preparing for CNA classes, and learning exactly what will be expected of me when pursuing a career in
If you like to teach people and watch them grow this would be a great route for you to take. No matter how old you are, you could be a teacher at a trade, public, vocational, or even give private lessons on esthetics. Although you would need to study lesson planning and curriculum, you can make this dream come true. You would need to gain a different type of certificate in order to become a teacher. Each state differs on the training required to teach. You could also become the director for a beauty school.
With these past recent years, the interest in nursing was engraved into my brain. In a positive
The hair industry has changed so much since I started doing hair in my Mothers Basement salon in the 80s. I have always loved watching the complete transformation that takes place with the amazing art of hair design.
When I came to Blue Hills Regional, I thought I would want Early Education, Auto Body, or Cosmetology. Even though I thought I knew what shops I was interested in I still told myself to keep an open mind. That’s exactly what I did. I kept an open mind throughout every shop. I worked hard and tried to complete everything with effort and learn more about the shop. This benefited me a lot because I learned so much about the program, the teachers, and life in general. The vocational teachers did not only teach me about their shop but they taught me so much about life, they were helpful with everything, they answered questions, and guided me through the shop. I ended almost every exploratory week wanting the shop which became a big challenge for
There I stood at seventeen, fresh out of high school, with a one- year- old daughter and no clue what came next. I only knew one thing for sure; I couldn’t do it on my own working part time at the local market. As I pondered what came next, my parents had plenty of suggestions, one of which was to take the nurse aid course at the local nursing home. Subsequently, this is what my mom did and loves working as a certified nurse aid. With not a lot of options, I thought “what the heck it’s worth a try” and signed up for the next class. Two weeks after graduating high school, there I was, back in a classroom of a different sort. This class would teach me how to care for people, tend their needs, and take vital signs. What were vital signs I thought and how do you measure blood pressure? All things I would soon learn.
