My mom always encouraged me to drink milk three times a day whether I wanted to or not. I began to argue with my mom whenever she told me to drink milk because it did not leave a pleasant taste in my mouth. As an eight year old, I did not understand the dangers of jumping off stairs and often injured my bones in the process. I was told that drinking milk would help me grow taller and develop strong bones, but I still felt pain even with the consistent calcium intake and was still the shortest out of all my peers. Even the slightest pressure applied to my bones, such as jumping, would injure my ankles. This frustration was unbearable for an impatient child like I was, so I decided to add drinking milk to a daily task of mine, regardless of what aftertaste it left in my mouth. I grew up in a household that constantly motivated me; I was often stressed whenever things did not work out the way I wanted it …show more content…
I was also growing at a quicker rate than the majority of my peers. My confidence gradually increased when I interacted with others because I now rarely had to physically look up to people. Although it was difficult for me to continually do what I initially thought was pointless, my mom kept pushing me, and I was able to experience a sense of success with something as simple as drinking milk. Because of this, I was convinced that I was able to do anything with a bit of perseverance, so I started applying the idea to everything that I wanted to accomplish. My parents' mishap and my success drew me towards my newfound passion for curative nutrition. I became fascinated with how proper care and nourishment could have such positive effects on the body, such as forming strong bones, so I now strive to influence children and adults to become more cognizant of this
Since I was a kid, I had a ton of responsibilities, cleaning up after myself, doing chores, managing to not fight with my brother, although we fought all day everyday, but you know, it happens. One thing that I didn't know wasn't normal was parenting your parent. I go to school do all my class work and during recess and lunch I listened to all the other kids talk about going to the park after school and eating dinner together with their parents. When I got home from school, I had to do my homework and then take care of my mother. Bring her things she needed such as food, water, help her with many other simple everyday activities. Of course I wasn't the only one who was her “little helper” as she put it, my dad helped her and my older brother by two years,
Thesis: Humans are designed to drink human milk, not cow’s milk. Humans should really old drink milk during infancy and that’s because all of the hormones in cow’s milk can cause many health issues.
Got Milk? Well, Austin Powers, Tracy McGrady, Serena Williams, Britney Spears, and even Elvis all do. But, do they know what they are selling in this Got Milk? Advertisements? The Got Milk? campaign was based on a milk deprivation strategy that reminded consumers how inconvenient it was to be without milk. The advertisment made milk a very popular drink because of its attractiveness not because of the nutrients and health issues. It has been believed by many that milk is needed to have a strong and healthy body, when actually milk can be extremely harmful and the nutrients needed for a good body can be found in many other sources.
The time I first experienced growth was when I went on my first mission trip ever, and it just so happened to be over the weekend of my 16th birthday. I did not know anyone in my group, yet we were united with a common goal to serve our community. Going into the weekend I thought I would inspire and help people, little did I know that in my own life I would be inspired. On our first day serving the community, we went to a neighborhood in Los Angeles, that had severe poverty, to help families obtain food and play with the kids. The apartments had broken windows, barely working doors, and bars to protect outsiders from coming in, yet the people were so humble and happy. All the other students in my group were either speaking Spanish to help the elders, drawing with the little kids, or playing soccer. My new friend Alec told me to join the soccer game, so I did. I was put on a team with my new friend Kevin, and two brothers named Diego and Jesse. Half way through the game my competitive side grew and i began to feel less restrained, so I kicked harder. I ended up kicking the ball so hard it hit little 5 year old Jesse in the head, I felt remorse. Jesse surprised me with a huge smile as to say,’
My mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 40, when I was in preschool. With very few memories prior to her diagnosis, living with MS was quite simply a fact of life. A single parent who was singularly dedicated to her three daughters, my mother trudged unwaveringly through all the symptoms, complications, and limitations her disease inflicted on her. For the most part she suffered in silence, her disease progression so slow and gradual that it was nearly imperceptible to us. She was our family’s rock, her faith in God strengthening her resolve to give us as normal a childhood as possible considering the situation. A sudden escalation of her symptoms when I was eleven altered our lives. Over the course of two months she lost
Throughout our lives we have been told that milk is good for our body and helps to toughen our bones. Drinking milk started when people domesticated animals for food, which happened around 7500 years ago in the central Balkans and central Europe. By that time consuming milk was not as common as it is today. It was only farmers in some specific regions that were using cow’s milk. Milk’s market grew the mass production of meat in the 15th century. Afterwards in the 17th century, the idea of eating out and going to restaurants was born and fast food industries, started using animal’s meat for producing their meals. The rate of milk users grew with the rate of meat users and milk’s market got bigger and bigger every day. Mothers
The more milk kids drink, the more nutrients they get, says Mrs. Dobbins from the midwest dairy council the more nutrients you get the stronger you will be. That can only lead to good things. Another example is, if chocolate milk doesn't hurt kids and they like it, why take it away? Many people say to take chocolate milk away from schools but why, many think that just because its “chocolate” milk its bad, but its not. “Some people say chocolate milk is bad, but it has the exact same things as white milk except a little sugar,” this was stated by Mrs. Dobbins from the midwest dairy council, and even though there's added sugars most kids are active and they can burn it off. Those examples explain why kids drink more if its
When I started to play soccer in 10th grade, although I was a strong player in the school soccer team, I used to lack of speed and stamina. In order to play soccer in a higher level, I decided to make a breakthrough on my physical condition. Accordingly, I worked out a strict diet for myself: vegetable and fruit as main food, a few starch foods like rice and potato and no junk food. On the other hand, I kept very intense soccer practice for most of days. At the beginning, I often felt starving before having meals. The most torturing thing was that I had to resist to the temptation of my favorite grilled steak and fried chicken when I was very hungry. However, I kept my diet strictly because I had a faith that fortune favors the tenacious. From
Part of the North America diet is to drink eight glasses of milk a day. Who would ever think that such a habit could cost your life? In 2008 that is exactly what happened in China, four babies died and 53,000 fell ill. How does a parent feel, when on the most important aspects of helping your child grow is to give them milk for calcium and instead it kills your baby.
Dole is going to have an event next month for all kids. What Dole is doing is nothing new. There has been so much more things, like when Darth Vader, from Star Wars, and Yoda, went and sold bags of apples. A nutritious snack. In the 1990’s, hundreds of movie stars and athletes went and helped in the “Got Milk” campaign. There are photographs with the athletes and movie stars with milk on the upper lip. There are also the Flintstone vitamins. A majority of people when they were kids took these. Parents got there children to eat these very easily because they were colorful and were shaped as cartoon characters. Did you ever hear of Popeye? Well, he also got kids to eat spinach. Kids can be very easily convinced to do anything.
For the most part my diet is okay but there can definitely be improvements. After breaking down my consumption I realized that I’m lacking in several areas, especially protein, potassium, and several essential vitamins like vitamin C, D, and E. One of my biggest problems, as is typical of most college students, is buying cheap, easy to make meals like frozen pizza and pasta. In addition, I also tend to not take the time to plan out my meals, or even take the time to cook. Now that we’re in the middle of finals my eating habits are even worse as I would rather not take time away from studying to cook. I love cereal as well and I think it would be beneficial to eat a more well-rounded breakfast. For example, I could incorporate eggs, avocado, or peanut butter into my breakfast routine. Smoothies, which I make in the afternoons on occasion, could also be a great way to improve my diet in the morning. Now that the weather is much warmer I’m not as concerned about
Recently, my parents started searching for a place to buy fresh raw milk. In Illinois, raw milk is not sold in grocery stores. So my dad had to find some private farmers that are willing to sell the raw milk. After some searching, he had found an Amish farmer, 35 miles south of us who was willing to sell us raw milk. One weekend we visited their farm. I never met Amish people before, but I have heard that they live a very simplistic life. In Amish county, the roads were filled with horse carriages, friendly people waving their hands at us and wearing traditional Amish/dutch clothing. It appeared like that I was traveling back in time to the 1700s. The farm was big with a small house and many cows and other animals. The owner welcomed us and
According to the US Department of Agriculture's (USDA) newly released food pyramid, it is recommended to intake 3 cups of low-fat or fat-free dairy products per day. The USDA recommends this because milk is a good source of calcium and vitamin D for your body. The calcium creates strong bones and reduces the threat of osteoporosis, a condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue or deficiency of calcium or vitamin D. Another argument is that young children and babies need milk in order to grow. Milk contains five essential vitamins that all work together to improve growth in young children. All of the "health benefits" mentioned can be achieved by taking calcium supplements or by eating fruits and vegetables, not drinking
In order to understand how I got to where I’m today, and why I have made the choices that I made, I need to tell you where and how this journey started. Twenty years ago I was a wife, mother of three girls, owned a nice home in a small town and had a secure job working at United Parcel Service (UPS). Even so, after an injury at work, I very rapidly got addicted to pain medication which turned my world upside down. In a very short time I lost my job, my kids, and my husband and my home and began a six year struggle with addiction that included several arrests, incarceration, probation, and three different treatment programs that finally ended on October 2, 2001.
When I was little, “drink your milk” was a common refrain in most of my friends’ homes. I was always turning down glasses of milk when I went over to play with the kids down the street. But Maxine’s house
