Part of the North America diet is to drink eight glasses of milk a day. Who would ever think that such a habit could cost your life? In 2008 that is exactly what happened in China, four babies died and 53,000 fell ill. How does a parent feel, when on the most important aspects of helping your child grow is to give them milk for calcium and instead it kills your baby.
We think that it happened thousands of miles away, but what if tainted milk was sold here. The number of products that would be impacted is countless. Here are ten that come to mind: cheese, ice cream, sour cream, yogurt, chocolate, whip cream, prepackaged meals with sauces or gravy that use milk, baby formula, coffee creamers and pudding. This would be detrimental to any business that sold these contaminated products.

They sent a message to all businesses about the consequences of unethical behavior. The death penalty is a little harsh but life in prison sends a clear message about ignoring information that brings about death. The United States should incorporate tougher penalties for companies that put customers’ lives in jeopardy for monetary gain. The fines the government charge for such infringements is not enough. They are a mere slap on the wrist to most business. Several businesses in the pharmaceutical industry have had multiple fines because the financial benefit of releasing a drug early is far greater than the impact of the liability.
The milk scandal is not even the last incident where a Chinese company is linked to providing tainted products to American businesses. In 2014, many American fast food restaurants, that are located in China, received expired meat.
