I spent 2 days a week serving as an assistant coach for my high school track club. I assisted the head coach by organizing and directing small group exercises and activities, monitored student’s behavior and performance during practices, and served as a role model and mentor. While volunteering, I shared some insight into the experiences of being a collegiate athlete and offered effective time management strategies. I created an environment of trust and respect and over time the student-athletes became comfortable asking me for advice. By the end of the summer, most of the athletes I worked with competed in the junior national outdoor championship and placed in the top 10 of their events.
I presumed the best part of being an assistant coach
It all started when i was in fourth grade. It all changed what inspired me came by whole big dream that i wanted to be successful at. I was at school just a normal day, and it was times to go to PE, and my coach got out a circular ball that i had never seen in my life. It was kinda colorful, it had some weird word written on it, but i couldn't see from where i was standing. My coach handed us each one of these balls, and coach called them volleyballs. My coach told us what to do and what not to do, so i was at this net, and just gave the ball a high five because that's what he said to do. Coach came over to me, and kinda directed me through and told me it was called a serve. That day i went home thinking about it, and i decided i want to do
At this point in the semester, I am five weeks into my practicum. Throughout the past five weeks I have come to learn a lot from Tyler, the Sports Coordinator at the Y. One of the biggest surprises that I have learned from this experience is the amount of time and team effort it takes to be a sports coordinator. While at the Y I have helped Tyler run and supervise different sports programs for the youth and with every new program there is more and more work that goes into it. When I started at the Y, there was already a session in progress. Each session is eight weeks in duration and there are several programs within the session. Now that the previous session has ended Tyler is showing me how to create the next session. With this I have observed that there is a lot of team effort that goes into building these programs.
When a passion dies, it is the most heartbreaking thing there is. A coach who has killed my passion has their favorites, makes me feel worthless, and only cares about the girls who she thinks are the best. No matter how hard I worked in practice, it would never be good enough for them.
In all my life, I’ve never had a commitment that required so much of me as track and field, both physically and mentally. Towards the end of my high school career, track and field for me meant having to push through a difficult physical condition known as tarsal coalition, a condition that causes inflammation in my feet. With help from my coaches, I had to learn to endure past physical limitation and strengthen my faith in my abilities. By doing so, I became more confident in myself and I was able to help lead other team members to do the same. Not only did track and field teach me to lead, but it also taught me how to be a part of a team. I learned the value of teamwork through building relay race teams. In all relay races, I was either the
I am writing to the three of you because I am interested in the Assistant Softball Coach position at your school. As an alum of Mountain View High School I know the competitive traditions that the Spartans have on the field and in the class room. I believe that with my knowledge of the game, passion, dedication, and skills makes me the perfect candidate for this position. The four years that I spent on the varsity softball team here at Mountain View High School ultimately allowed me to find out who I was as a player and a person. There was so much more to being a Spartan than attending a High School that performed well on the field, but was also like a second family.
When it comes to the sports industry, there are many different jobs within organizations and businesses. Prior to interviewing someone, I did a large amount of research on jobs within the NCAA. My ideal interview would have been with the athletic director for the University of Florida, because my goal is to one day become an athletic director. However, Jeremy Foley is a very busy man and was not available to meet with me. Therefore, I interviewed who I believe to be the next best person. I interviewed the coordinator of volleyball operations for the University of Florida Gators, Alesha Busch. Although Alesha does not deal directly with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), she abides by the organizations rules and deals with them through the University Athletic Association (UAA). The reason I chose to interview
With a score of 44 to 37, the Varsity Football Team won against the Midway Panthers last Friday night at Waco.
When I received the promotion to Director of Academics and the Assistant Athletic Director for Academics at Portland State I was required to keep the job responsibilities that were associated with my Academic Advisor position. This meant that not only was I responsible for job duties as an advisor but I was also given the responsibilities of the Academic department and supervising. I went from a case load of 150 students to over 300 and supervising a staff of just over 10. I had to learn to manage my time efficiently and effectively while being able to handle and manage crises that arose during the day or any impending deadlines. It was also not rare to receive requests from the University General Counsel, Athletic Director, NCAA, Compliance
Kevin is having a conversation with his brother Tyler about college football while driving home from school. Both are in their Senior year playing for the USF Knights football team. But their friend Josh is really struggling.
My mind was set to pursue a career in coaching after my undergrad. Leading into my first year as college football coach, I relied mainly on my personal and prior experience during college as a football player. I wanted to provide the players with support and guidance I did not experience having as a player. During my first year as an assistant coach, I managed to influence some players following my main objective in my first year as a coach. Going into my second year, I was promoted with my own position group, running backs (RB), to coach without having to shadow another position coach as an assistant. I was excited, passionate, and overwhelmingly ready to guide this group of young men into a spiritual, motivational direction using my personal experience and my prior knowledge of football to support my coaching goals and objectives.
During my time in High School I ran on the cross country team for 3 seasons. The coach, Mark Snead is known for his sense of humor, teaching skills, and leadership abilities. This coach and teacher was committed to bringing out the best in his students. In the class, he didn’t waste time or try to overload you with pointless busy work. Instead he would teach what was necessary and appropriate to understand the subject and excel in the class. At practice, he would never yell at runners if he knew they weren't trying their best, instead he would gather up the team and explain to everyone why we run. He would proclaim something along the lines of, "Each day we come out here and practice, we work to improve ourselves, you don't want to end up regretting
When I first started attending Manlius Pebble Hill, I didn't think that athletics would develop into a large part of my life. During my sophomore year I was granted the opportunity to take part in one of the greatest learning experiences in my life. The school had just hired a new basketball coach, and he came with the intentions to change our view on athletics at MPH. In the preceding years we had a record of about three wins, out of sixty games, and had somewhat given up hope on the notion of ever winning. However, when Coach Ike came he implemented lessons that would help nurture our love of basketball, and help us to become a successful team. He taught us how to ply together, and how to put the team and school we play for ahead of ourselves.
I want to intern with the MSU Athletic Department because I’ve always loved sports. I grew up watching my brother play football and developed a deep passion for it. I religiously attended his games and cheered him on for years. This love for football was only amplified once I attended my first Mississippi State game. The rush that comes along with game day in Davis Wade Stadium is like nothing I’ve ever experienced, and I know I will return to Starkville no matter where life takes me to keep experiencing that rush.
Many coaches in start of careers have begun as a head coach or as an assistant coach. The assistant coach has a unique position within the program and coaching staff. Assistant coach is hired by a head coach to make sure players, equipment and facilities are well-prepared and organized. However, some assistant coach has direct coaching responsibilities, while others only respond to the head coach 's directive. The assistant job given the opportunities to work up the ladder by allowing the gain of knowledge and experience which are necessary to lead a team. While compare and contrast the chapter of 'The Assistant Coach ' from the book ‘Coaching, A Realistic Perspective’ by Michael and Ralph Sabock to the article ‘Head Coaches’ Perceptions on the Roles, Selection, and Development of the Assistant Coach’ by Scott Roswell, Gordan Bloom, and Todd Loughead, the research shows differently, but more similar in technique and needs of coaching position. In the textbook ‘Coaching, A Realistic Perspective’, the chapter of the assistant coach focus on helping coaches create a positive atmosphere to allow the assistants to gain and grow within the program and the team. The chapter opens up with high school sport reflection of assistant coach. The main points of becoming an assistant coach are the head coach at the high school level rarely have a voice of hiring an assistant coach. The head coach 's do not know how and use an assistant coach. (SSabock 2011, p. 129). The textbook showed
I have been able to maintain a productive relationship with my figure skating coach despite our drastically different political views. In addition to having a coach/student relationship, we also have a close friendship. Naturally, I had a hard time reconciling our drastically different political viewpoints.
