Personal Narrative: My Experience Working At Cutler Bay Middle School

I am currently interning at West Millbrook Middle School, at 8155 Strickland Road, Raleigh NC, 27615. West Millbrook Middle School is a traditional school calendar that holds a capacity of 1120 students. Although for the 2015-2016 school year only 929 students are in attendance. (296 6th graders, 313 7th graders and 320 8th graders)

For two years I begrudgingly walked into Fuller Middle School, sometimes staying home because I had a ‘headache,’ my home, as well as other places I was always resentful, pissed off, quick tempered, and just downright rude. I was a typical middle schooler going through family changes. I wore band tees and ripped skinny jeans to every event my mother would let me--including to school, I constantly violated dress coded until I found my way around authority and the policy, listened to heavy metal, colored my eyeliner on until I looked like a panda, and generally tried to make myself appear unapproachable. That’s when my mom began dating the man who I would eventually call my first lifeline.

As I started running out the car I noticed I had forgotten my posters I had for my classroom. It was so much going on in my life, that I didn’t believe I could make it this far. "Mrs. Stacy, do you need help carrying your stuff to your classroom?" Said Mr. Jacob who had settled his classroom right across from mine. "Oh your help would be soo useful at this moment Mr. Jacob!" As I gave him the two big boxes of books that were filled with rain and mud from the thundery rain I ran back to my car to get my posters. Mrs. Stacy was just starting her career at Tennessee in Hicks Elementary School. An art teacher who had just graduated and moved away from the big city lights and into an old small town. She was just getting used to Mercy Town, a few miles away from an old cemetery.

I went to the same elementary school from kindergarten to 5th grade, Suncoast Elementary School. My brother, my sister and I all went to Suncoast Elementary school from k-5th. My sister is still in elementary school, but once she gets out she’ll either go to Gulf Coast or Powell. My brother, my sister and I all had the same kindergarten class room but always had a different teacher. At that school my brother would hang out with the people in the office often so when I got there they all knew my name and was extra nice to me. This is only about my experience from kindergarten through 3rd grade.

I, currently as a student at Ruth Thompson Middle School, have contributed to the community around me in many ways. In my school, as of now, I have been part of the RTMS Tech Team, which includes in helping students with technology, helping teachers set up with assemblies, open houses, replacing PC monitors, and a lot more. As part of tech team, I have also helped with things that are relatively tedious, like sorting out a whole room of cables. Yes, I will do it again at JFSS if I’m assigned or have the opportunity to. Also, I have helped with jobs that may require a little more skill. Aaron and I began working together in August 2013 at Oak Grove Middle School in the Davidson County School System in Lexington, North Carolina. Inasmuch as we were both new to sixth grade, we were both experienced teachers. Aaron’s wife had been my school’s technology representative so I knew of him through her. Although I had little contact with Aaron the familiarity with his family created an instant friendship.

Until sixth grade, I went to Shepherd Christian Elementary School. Once I moved on to sixth grade, I had to switch to a school that went through high school. I didn’t want to leave my friends; I was scared. I was touring multiple schools to see where God was leading us. When I came to Liberty, I immediately felt loved. Liberty was much larger than my old school. On the first day, I felt at home.

I job shadowed at an elementary school in our county. I was interested in the value of an experience at another school and grade level. The day started with welcoming buses and students being dropped off in the car rider line. It is amazing to me to see how effective organization and planning can allow for movement of six hundred plus children to safely happen. While each school has a different way to load and unload buses, I saw proof there is more than one effective way to get it done. As a future administrator, I have now seen and experienced a variety of strategies for arrival and dismissal and feel confident in implementing the best one I see fit for my school.

I am Carla Sittig. I will be doing my internship at HJ Macdonald Middle school in New Bern, NC. I am excited to experience a middle school media center. I am no stranger to middle school, but have never experienced it from any other aspect other than a classroom teacher. In my current position I have the opportunity to advocate for media coordinators at the district level. My goal is to better understand the challenges of middle school media coordinators and understand how to integrate information literacy skills in the curriculum at the secondary level.

My experience at Weber Middle School was great, but there were also downs. I enjoyed 6th and 7th grade, but 8th is another story. 8th grade so far this year for me has been horrific. I am not doing so well in my classes and I need to pass in order to play sports for the high school. Sports are the number one thing for me to do when I am board. My favorite subject is social studies. Social Studies during 6th and 7th grade was uninteresting, but in the 8th grade social studies came alive for me. It was all a sudden my favorite subject. I am currently a student attending Grandville High School and am looking for my first job. Although I do not have actual work experience, I work well with people of all ages and have experience with organization and time management, skills I have learned from my 5 years of volunteering at the local library, helping with events such as carnivals, registering people for the summer reading program, and also promoting the library and its programs. This past school year, I have taken 3 honors classes, 1 A.P. class, 1 foreign language class, and participated in the school symphony orchestra. In the 8th grade there were two teacher that gave me a good experience at Stanford Middle School. This time it wasn’t math it was english. My teacher name was Mrs.Rooney. She made up slangs and songs. I remembered one time we even acted out one of shakespeare's plays. It helped me understand it better than just reading it. We had debates about topics so we could understand it better. We read a book and we answer questions on it every few chapters. It actually made me read the book when I didn’t want to. Middle school for me wasn’t that fun because the teachers seem boring. The reason I found it boring because all of my classes from 6th-8th weren’t all fun because I couldn’t listen to music.Sure I had my friends but the assignments were boring or as exciting.The only time I was excited for something was my 7th grade field trip because it was a day without school, we to Medieval Times, we ate, watch a show and not do work for the whole day.I guess my 8th grade field trip but it was at the end of the school year.the last three days of

My job at the Wheeler County Elementary School has been an adventure so far. All the way from crazy phone calls, to just being there to help as needed. Even though I have just started this job, I have really enjoyed this experience this far.
