Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.(650 word limit) I had been looking forward to this time in my life since my high school career began. My final summer as a Valley View High School student was supposed to be filled with adventures and great experiences. My first day of freedom was pure bliss; I was certain nothing could ruin this summer. However, just as Robert Frost said, “Nature’s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold.” My state of euphoria was gone too soon. God had a different idea of how I would spend the summer. This past summer, I took care of my grandmother. She left the hospital in early June to recover at home from her third …show more content…
I couldn’t help but draw a parallel between the two; as Frost said, “Then leaf subsides to leaf,” My nephew was just learning to walk as my grandmother was struggling to walk. Both “walks” more accurately resembled a wobbly shuffle while bumping into things. I was watching one life at its beginning and another near its ending. My grandmother has not improved much physically, but mentally, I believe she is content. I am sure I made an impact on her mental well-being. I am so grateful I chose to put my grandmother’s needs before my own this summer. I don’t feel any concerts or summer road trips would have left me with the same satisfaction as knowing I made a difference in the life of someone who has meant so much to me. I’m so glad I get to spend the rest of my grandmother’s days making her smile. I was amazed by the things I did not know I could handle. I was able to stay strong through a time when I didn’t think I would. I realized the briefness of life, while also witnessing the effects of aging up close and personal. I value life and youthfulness much more now than I did before. I’ve discovered myself that Robert Frost was speaking the truth when he said, “Nothing Gold Can Stay.” I learned that it is important to appreciate things because anything could change in an instant. Life is not forever so it is vital that we take advantage of the good times or “gold.” This set in stone the idea

As a freshman at Linden High School, I have learned that writing provides students with the necessary communication and thinking skills necessary to succeed in school. Before I enrolled in ACL, I was a lazy writer who detested every aspect of writing. Now, I have learned to embrace writing challenges and learn from my mistakes. Writing persuasive and research papers proved to be difficult for me because it required organizational and research skills. As the year progressed, I began feeling more confident in my writing skills and looked forward to expressing my ideas on paper. As a writer, I have gained the knowledge and tools to grow as a student.
Many people have left legacies from when they were alive. Some are good, and some are bad. Those people may not agree with what they have left behind, and some may be perfectly okay with theirs. For me, I would like to leave behind a legacy that shows my family that I was a good person. I would want them to know that I had good intentions for my life and that I wanted to do good for myself and others. In this essay, I will explain what I would like my legacy to be like.
But very much so to my Grandmother as well. As I prepare to start the next chapter of my life, College, I am so thankful for my Grandmother for being a good example and motivation for me. Like her, I am not satisfied with “just enough” but instead to always strive to be the best that I can be. Like her, I work hard to be honest and fair. I volunteer for organizations like OCA Asian Pacific American Advocates and the Cleveland Asian Festival to help others and promote my heritage. Like my Grandmother, I have a deep commitment to family. In the years to come, I will work hard to excel. To be an example. To be a role model to others. Thank you Grandmother! My
When my aunt asked if I wanted to help at the nursing home, I mainly went because I was bored. When I arrived, I helped the residents play bingo and I even painted a few nails. Even though it does not sound like a lot, I realized on that day how much I loved helping others and how I couldn’t wait to volunteer again.
Her desire to run around with her future grandchildren one day, drove her to take her rehabilitation seriously to improve her condition. This made me realize how truly special the little things in life are and as a society,
Growing up in a very traditional Asian household, I was pushed every day to achieve any goal I sought out to accomplish. Whether it was playing piano, practicing the viola, or studying for school, my parents were always supportive with any goal I had in mind. One of the main reasons why I am who I am today is because where my parents originated from and their desire to follow the American Dream for not just them but my sister and I.
My Legacy will be remembered as good student but not the greatest behavior. Most of my legacy will be remembered with the teachers I always had a good thing with the teachers. The teachers always liked me because I did my work and payed attention sometimes. It wil also will be with the students I left behind a good path with the teachers. The life that I touched the most would be Mrs. Codispoti she was my favorite teacher last year and we made a big impact on each other's life.
Think of what you would think of on your final day of life. Sitting in your hospital bed,
I took Engl 131 last quarter and the portfolio that I submitted was my biggest accomplishment in writing. I was very proud with the result because it comprised all my effort from the whole quarter. The portfolio included six essays and explanations for each outcome of the course. It marked my improvement in writing from proving how the essays have been refined in every draft. The essays focused on the topics of audience, genres and rhetorical skills.
Despite all the external an internal factors working against her, she still managed to excel in life, going back to school, while raising three children, and while working three jobs she managed to earn her Master’s degree. Did I mention that she graduated with honors? Never conforming, she conquered the obstacles that were thrown in her path to achieve her goals and provide for her family; which I found to be extremely selfless. It was her strength and determination that undeniably contributed to my behaviors as I was provided the proof that you are not your circumstance, and there is nothing you can’t do if you believe in yourself and work hard. It was her influence that eventually instituted the type of mother I wanted to be for my future children; which I always dreamed of
There are many experiences that I look back on as why I am who I am today. One of these experiences came from my 9th grade biology class. On the second day of school, our teacher Coach Smith asked us if we wanted to get shocked. He pulled out a small machine and told us that it could deliver small electrical pulses that would stimulate our nerves. When we asked what that would do to us, he smiled and said we would have to wait and see. I volunteered immediately, intrigued at the idea. He placed the machine on my forearm and switched it on. I watched as my hand took on a life of its own. He let other students who wanted to try the machine out and answered all of our questions patiently. He then said there was another experiment he would try
My determination, being open minded, and my love to help others has helped me become the person I am today. My determination has helped me through getting the things I want instead of slacking off or having the mindset that I do not care. My determination has helped through challenging classes, and not giving up even when things got tough. Keeping an open mind allowed me to receive better opportunities, and allowed me to explore my interests in new ways. One of the great opportunities I have recieved was Global Glimpse, and seeing the world in a new way. My love to help others also helped me find me peace and happiness in my life. I love to help people, and I love helping my community. One of the great things I have done is do community service
Every day I wake up determined to do more than I did the day before. My past achievements include gaining leadership skills, being on a varsity sport, and learning outside of school. I have been in tennis for eight years and on varsity for three years where I have received two awards for most improved player. My early years of high school I was apart of the backstage crew for the play, performed at my high school. I could only participate in them for two years because later I had decided to join another sport. The plays were terrible, under equipped, strange plots that were difficult to follow and there was barely an audience. I loved it. It made me feel essential, like I was helping someone who needed and depended on me. I was accepted into
One thing she practically has worked hard for, is keeping the family together. My brother and I, had not had as much contact with our cousins, if we hadn’t had our grandmother. She invites our two families to Sunday dinners, and brings her grandkids to the cinema or theater. Every seventeenth of May, our family stops by her apartment to eat her traditional cake and mixed eggs with sugar. She has brought me to many trips to the mountains, and taught me table manners and to be polite. Even though I don’t see her that much, I appreciate what she has done for me and the
