Coming to the University of Nebraska at Omaha, I did not know many people. College was a brand new experience with several opportunities to become involved. The organization, however, that started my involvement on campus was the Honors Student Association. This association opened the door for me to meet new people and assist with activities, not only on campus but around the community. I was able to attend the socials that took place and assist with the Distinguished Scholars Competition because of my involvement in this association. I am applying to become a representative because I want to further my experience and involvement with this great organization. Providing service to other students and community members is a huge part of
I have decided to join the Student Government Association as a senator because I believe my skills, qualifications, experience and even future goals are tailored to this position and through it I can not only help the Stetson community but I can learn from the experience and grow as a person.
Math had always been the easy, simple subject for me until calculus suddenly turned math into a terribly fascinating new world for me to explore. My paradigm regarding the seemingly rigid discipline shifted from indifference to a desire to learn how the puzzle pieces of the world clicked and fitted together. I hoped to spread that sentiment by establishing Mu Alpha Theta at my school, a chartering process that I expected to last at most two months.
As surprising as it may sound, I have been doing community service since the sixth grade and it is a new experience each time. It all began with a community clean up known as 'Keep McAllen Beautiful' as we got there everyone seemed excited to be there. It was beautiful to see such unity inside of my community, and I decided from then on that I would like continue helping out where it is needed. As I joined the National Honor Society my chances of providing my services increased, and I decided that I would assume a position of leadership when needed. I became the society's president, which allowed me to develop my time management skills, creativity, and efficiency. I organized an fundraiser for the hurricane Harvey disaster victims where all
Throughout my high school career, I have been involved in different professional societies such as the National Society of High School Scholars, Mu Alpha Theta (Math honors society), and Business Professionals of America. My involvement in these societies has made me knowledgeable in the logistics of how to run the society, and have taught me valuable skills such as leadership and collaboration. For logistics, I can help organize events such as fundraising activities or philanthropic events as I am currently on the social committee for Business Professionals of America, which is in charge of organizing social events for my chapter. As an elected member for the social committee, my chapter has shown faith in me for my leadership skills and collaboration skills. Overall, I feel like I can contribute a lot of my skills and knowledge to UIC honors college.
they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please
Due to my involvement in my school, I have a plethora of opportunities that affect my community. As a member of the National Honor Society, we stay involved in activities that benefit our chapter and Walkerton itself. For instance, we annually undergo a food drive at our school in order to supply food for the people in the community. Then we transport the food to the food pantry and once every month we take turns to distribute the food to the people who need it. This distribution we do for the community aids the people in need as most people receiving the food are unable to transport the food themselves. Alongside the food drives, I spend hours of volunteering for concessions, tutoring students after school, and aiding for the band teacher.
One of the most memorable moments since being an IDSS major would have to be my induction into Alpha Iota Sigma Honor Society. This day was one of the highlights of my life because it was the first formal recognition I had receive as an adult. When I received the email from Professor Winn initially I thought to myself that I wasn’t really concerned with getting honored for my grades. At the time the only concern I had was finishing up my last few classes and graduation. But, a week or so after receiving her email I began to think about how for 15 years I had been working so hard to complete my degree and that was something worth recognizing. I called my spouse to let him know of the invitation, and he encouraged me to participate, and agreed
Being in Rowan’s Thomas N. Bantivoglio Honors Concentration allows me the opportunity to enrich my experience at Rowan. Rowan’s Honors Concentration not only emphasizes excellence in academics, but an understanding and appreciation of cultures and the arts, student health, wellness, integrity, and curiosity, and community service and civic engagement. I am interested in joining Rowan’s Honors Concentration because of my desire to partake in community service and gain a deeper appreciation of cultures and art.
When I originally set out to join the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, I really did not know much about them. While I was at first hesitant to attend the induction ceremony, in the end I was very glad that I chosen to go, for it proved to be the perfect place to learn everything I needed to know. From meeting the officers to knowing who sponsors the NSCS, the induction ceremony was packed full with information.
I am a sophomore at Hamilton Southeastern High school, and currently plan to graduate in 2018. My GPA as of this moment is a 3.33, and I am an A, B honor roll student. Inside school I am a part of the Harry Potter Club, and play quidditch which is a sport having to do with Harry Potter. My aim in high school is to graduate with academic honors. Last school year I was not as involved with the school rather, I got involved with outside of school things. In 8th grade I was a part of the Junior high national honors society.
In high school, I have maintained an Academic Honors diploma track which means I will be graduating with a higher honors than most of my grade. I was only allowed to stay on this track if my GPA was above a 3.0 and I didn’t get a grade lower than a C-. This was a difficult task for me at times because I took hard classes such as AP Biology and AP Calculus. They tested me to see if I was serious about staying on this track. It turns out, I was serious. I never got a grade lower than a C- and my GPA is way higher than a 3.0. However, my devotion to doing well in school, was because of the Weaver scholarship and not the higher diploma track. When I was in 8th grade, my dad, Mark Klug, informed me about it and said that if I kept my grades up,
For as long as I can remember I have dreamed about becoming a student at the University of Arizona. I was born in Tucson and as a little kid I would always look at “A” mountain and believed that one day I would be a wildcat. Though I was not raised in Tucson I lived fairly close, I come from a small town Mammoth, Arizona. Many people from this town after they graduate from high school usually get trapped into working at the Asarco mine. I knew that I did not want to work there.
Throughout my journey at Montevallo High School, I have persevered through adversity in which strengthened my faith and mentality as a student athlete. The challenges I encountered made me more determined and focused, as I progress to the next chapter of my story, at Samford University.
The Honors Student Association has provided me with some of the best opportunities that I have experienced here at UNO. I have had the pleasure of being a part of this association for three years which has allowed me to broaden my relationships with other students in the Honors Program and strengthen my own personal skills. It is because of these elements that I want to further my involvement in the association through this position. I am the appropriate individual for this position because of my involvement with and dedication to HSA. I am committed to attending the weekly meetings to help develop and create events for other honors students to enjoy. I have been able to learn the appropriate skills and requirements to host and organize a variety
Thank you so much for writing back to me. I was starting to get worried about you. It is great to know that you are investing so much time in your academic studies! I am currently an all “A” student in my high school and do research with Rutgers University, a college that's only 40 minutes from my house. Education gives meaning to life, in my opinion.
