Personal Narrative: My Practicum Experience At Mary Stark Elementary School

I really enjoyed having this practicum opportunity at Mary Stark Elementary School.
I was fortunate enough to have both Kari and Kelli as supervisors. By having both of them I was able to observe and interact with many different kids. Kelli works with preschool kids as young as 3 and Kari saw kids up to 5th grade. This gave me a wide variety and I was also there for a full school day, so I had many hours with the kids. In the mornings I was with Kelli and got to watch her with the preschool kids. She usually saw them in groups of two. The kids always seemed excited to see her and ready to play with her. Kelli always had a little timeline that showed the kids what they were going to be working on that day. It was really nice, because usually at the end they either got to do something on the iPad or play bubbles. This usually helped her get the kids back on track if they weren’t working; they saw the bubbles as reward for their hard work. Once Kari got to Mary Stark, I was with her the rest of the day. Kari sees this little girl every day, and within the last 3 months, it is amazing how much progress she has made. The little girl is much easier to understand, and even though she is still a little shy, she will now play games and talk to me. This little girl always works hard when she is in Kari’s room and it was so cool to be able to see her progress first hand. There was one first grade boy that Kari saw, and he was my favorite to see throughout the day. He was this spunky little guy with a little attitude. He was always ready to work hard, but Kari mention how he always seemed to be showing off for me. I enjoyed doing activities with him because he wasn’t shy around me and interacted with me like my own cousins do when I play with
