I stand here under the hot sun with sweat pouring down my cheeks eagerly awaiting our club’s trip to the Orange County Museum of Art, my first trip to a museum since moving here to the United States. I wonder when the other members will arrive, maybe I arrived a little early. I am a bit excited. I think about the countless opportunities to grow and discover more about myself being a member of the art club has given me.
Being in the United States for barely five years, my language barrier prevented me from joining and participating in school clubs. My limited English made it tough to find the right club where I could feel accepted and play an integral part. I tried out some clubs, but I would leave after a few meetings since I could not
My Humanities Art Experience took place at the Columbus, GA Museum, located on Wynnton Road. I really enjoyed my experience at the museum. It was my first time visiting an American museum. I saw many pieces of fine art, some of which I will list below.
When I was younger, my dad and I used to go on dates to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Although I haven’t been there for over five years now, I still remember one piece of art that took my breath away; not because of the beauty of the artwork, but because of the shiver it sent down my spine, and the uneasy feeling I had when I looked at it. The piece of art that made me so apprehensive was a wax model of a museum security guard. The intricate detail of the figure, including the pores in the skin and the hair on the knuckles, left me wondering if this man were going to suddenly leap forward and yell, “Gotcha!”
Late on Wednesday night, my phone ringed. It was a text message from my friend Pedro, “Do you want to visit an art museum tomorrow”. Knowing I needed to go, I texted him back quickly, “pick me up after your class tomorrow and we can adventure to The Weatherspoon Art Museum at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro”. After Pedro’s class, we explored the museum observing multiple art works, and I was invoked by three, art pieces. All three were different and intriguing in their own way. For instance, the painting that is on top of the cover page with all the wavy hair was painted by Catherine Murphy and is known as the “Frosted”. This painting was very delightful because of its unique elements. Second, the sculpture in the middle of the cover page is an image of a wooded animal. This sculpture was crafted by Deborah Butterfield and is recognized as Lunalilo. Also, at the bottom of the cover page is a sculpture constructed by Dan Graham, the sculpture was known as Triangle Solid with
During Parent’s Weekend at Marquette, my family and I went to the Haggerty Art Museum. While I pleaded with my family to not go, as I am not a huge art fan, my Mom’s opinion overruled mine. From the outside, Haggerty looked like it would be small, but in reality, was quite large. When walking in, I immediately assumed that the art would not make any sense to me like at most art museums. However, I was quickly proven wrong as a lot of the art we saw was what I would consider impressive. They were not the drawings of a line or pieces that look like a child made them that you see at most museums, but what I call “real art”.
In order to compose this assignment, I visited the University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum (CAM). The USF Contemporary Art Museum is a compact museum on campus located near the Dance buildings and the Theatres. The museum opened its establishment in 1989 and has offered a wide range of art from around the world including the United States, Africa, Europe, and Latin America (usfcam.usf.edu). In order to keep students engaged in the art, the museum changes its exhibits a couple times a year. Currently, the exhibition on display is entitled Extracted and incorporates “the extraction and circulation of natural resources around the globe” (Megan Voeller). Despite the museum being not large in size, I was able to attain a sense of nature through photographs, sculptures, video messages, and banners produced from artists including Otobang Nkanga, Marina Zurkow, Claire Pentecost, Mary Mattingly and Daniel Shiffman. The social angle most strongly related to the exhibit on display at this time is nature and culture. Extracted was motivated by relationships between humans and the environment referring to “complex technical processes behind oil drilling and mining or industrial agriculture” (Megan Voeller). Most of the artists focus their work on nature including the environment, ecosystems, and life itself.
The Colorado History Museum was a phenomenal place to visit; it felt life like from being in my Colorado History class in college as well as in my high school ones. I had the ability to see what it was like living in Keota, as well as being a huge size person walking around the Denver area, and lastly saw a few pieces of clothing that were the Native Americans during Bent’s Fort. Every detail in the museum I tried paying attention too, because I did not want to miss anything.
My skills as a patient, independent problem solver who is both confident and knowledgeable in both the Royal Ontario Museum's history and collections will contribute to my success as a volunteer assistant. By working at an overnight camp, I have learned to be patient with children in a variety of situations such as high stress and lack of rest. After babysitting an assortment of clients over the course of three years. I have become an experienced and confident independent problem solver. Being a lifelong member at the Royal Ontario Museum and having attended many ROMkids programs, I am at total ease and have developed a thorough understanding of the ROM layout and the history behind gallery artifacts. My demonstration of patience, problem-solving,
Last Thursday, I went to Native American museum. I heard the museum was built in just before three years. So the museum was very clean and beautiful. Also the building was built in modern style. But inside of the museum, a number of the relics were of considerable antiquity. We took on the tour with docent. Docent was a women who is a member of Navajo. Navajo is one kind of Native American tribe. She told of her tribe’s story, so I felt more truthful. At first, we saw the traditional boat. It was made of wood and some of them was made of straw. I was curious about that could really float. Because the boat was huge and heavy. She told to us, it was actually used in the tribe. Then we went to 4th floor and we saw various flag. Each of the flag
For as long as I can remember I have always had the drive and passion to create works of art in many ways, shapes and forms. My creativity and integrity that I share with art is on many levels ranging from 3D work, video game design, physical pieces of artwork as well as digital. I believe that there are very few schools that would not only help challenge my abilities but be able to utilize them in many ways I would've never imagined.
I’ve been on a trip with my friend Lily Wagner to my grandmothers in Arizona, we’re both in this class and so we went to the Tucson Museum of Arts together a few days ago. They have a couple exhibits going at the moment, and some really interesting ones coming soon that I wish I could’ve seen. Currently they have “Horses of the West: Power, Freedom, and Friendship” which I really thought I’d be into since I rode horses up until a bit ago, but as it turns out horse art really isn’t my thing. They also had “Welcome to the American West” which had some lovely paintings and “Of Earth and Sand: Ceramics and Glasswork” which was my personal favorite, but I’ve always loved ceramics and anything to do with glass art.
My experience to the Dallas Museum of Art was a bit different from the last time I had attended the museum. I was curious to see what pieces of art there would be and if it would be the same as the previous visit which was long ago, but to me all the pieces of art were so different and very interesting. It may have been because I saw all the pieces in a new perspective since learning about the different types of paintings there can be and knowing how and where sculptures come from. Even though I do not know much of art I really gave it a try into seeing what the artist may have wanted us to get out of his work. By reading a view of the chapters made me aware of art, I wouldn’t call myself an expert, but it was actually nice knowing that a
Jan van Eyck was active since 1422 and died in 1441. He was the most celebrated painter of the fifteen-century in Europe. One of his famous works is “The Last Judgment”. At first sight this work immediately attracted my attention. The painting’s stunning colors and the fact that it reminded me of a previous similar work I have seen, triggered in my mind. The material that is used is oil on canvas, transferred from wood. The size of this work is 22 1/4 *7 2/3 in. (56.5 * 19.7cm).
January was a mostly successful month. During soccer conditioning, I felt more in-shape like I had hoped at the beginning of the month. I also, thankfully, noticed an increase of fruit in my lunches. Sometimes I shift a little to potato chips, but it’s not my fault people made junk food taste so good! As for my responsibility goal… nothing really improved. I still complain about chores and put off my homework until last minute, but I hope to change that in future months.
During my time at the San Diego Model Railroad Museum, my mentor was Melody Paredes, a kind, easily amused, Hispanic woman. Prior to working at the museum she knew nothing about trains and was still learning details about them throughout my time as an intern. She would constantly compare herself to her colleagues feeling as if there was so much more she should be doing but unable to do anymore.
I visited the Tampa Museum of Art. This was my first visit to a museum and I was excited and intrigued and looking forward to seeing what was beyond the glass doors. The art exhibitions that I was able to see were all amazing to behold. For some reason, I was expecting to walk into a huge celestial auditorium that would have me in awe but wasn’t the case. During my tour of the Tampa Museum of Art, the artist and art that stood out to me most interestingly were Elizabeth Condon; “American Pastorale” 2016.
