Personal Narrative: The Sport Of Basketball

No other sport will mean so much to me as basketball will. Every time I step on the court, I lose myself and become a whole other person. When I hear my name yelled in the crowd, I get an adrenaline rush to my brain, causing me to swiftly move quicker and focus on the game. Deep down I know that I am not here to win the game, but to enjoy myself. Each basket I make are like my worries trapped into the ball, and then expelled when it goes into the basket. This game is where my mind gets lost in the sounds of the dribbles. When the game is over, I look back to my team and give them warming hugs knowing that the game is over, and we will not stop playing the sport because there is always time to get better. Although I frantically wash my jerseys the nights before games, and leave my stinky shoes in my car all season, I would not trade pulling a jersey over my head every Friday night, dancing to blaring music in the locker room, and lacing up my shoe for the world. It means a lot more to me knowing that it is more than just a game. While I know I am having fun with my best friends and some of the greatest mentors that I have, I know that I am learning true values of life, which will make me become a better

What makes me lose track of time , when people talk about about music or when people around me start talking about basketball. When people talk about basketball is grabs my attention because that's my favorite sport. Basketball has been my favorite sport since i been a young girl. Basketball is something that i admire with my heart . When people talk about music it attracts me because i am in love with music . Music takes my mind of a lot of stress and a lot of things that aggravate me . Basketball is something that i really love to do. When I want to learn more i go to basketball practice and i listen to the coach so i know more about it and i go online and learn about it . “Come on guys,” I yelled. I heard the screech of the referee’s whistle. Rushing to the bench, I heard the referee call out “Timeout, Heat.” Everything was on the line and our team’s championship hopes, being foremost on our team’s minds, was all coach could scream about. “I’m not going to tell you how to play basketball,” he yelled out. “That’s your job. I’m just going to say that right now, to us, this is a championship game. If we win this, we move on to the championship. If not, at least let us fall valiantly.” That got the whole team riled up as we rushed back onto the court. The crowd, encouraging as always, yelled out their approval on the fact that we were giving it our all. With just sixteen seconds left in the game and our team down by four, something special had to happen or we were done for the season.

Basketball was a new experience to me a few years ago, but i never realized I was going to love it. When I was younger, I’ve always wanted to play the sport of basketball, and I got my opportunity to play when I was in fifth grade at Monte Vista Elementary.

“Are you interested in this?” , my dad asks multiple times about multiple sports. I as a four year old just learning about sports, and watching them with my family decide that basketball is for me. So I go on to rec league… I learn how to dribble, pass, and shoot. Time passes and by middle school I can shoot left-handed layups, cross-over behind my back and in between my legs. High school is here.. and I become even more advanced not just with fundamentals, but mentally, and even more aggressively, and physical. I have a purpose, I love the game, and I want to play it as long as I can.

Basketball became a place where I could exhibit my talent and it has been so for the past 7 years. Each time I play a match, I set a target for myself to be the top scorer of that game. I only settled for the best. The feeling of a 3 point shot swishing into the net and blocking a shot from my opponent left me feeling immensely satisfied and cool.

For a majority of people in the world, if they were to wake up with 350 million dollars, and would be able to be fully retired by 38 years old, then they would be very content and happy with their lives. In the 2017 Final Four NCAA Basketball Championship there was an average of 22,998,000 viewers, while the NBA championship only had 20,400,000 average viewers for it’s final game between the Cavaliers and the Warriors. College Basketball games have the better games and variety of them because the NCAA has tons of games airing each night, while the NBA has a minimum of 3 and a max of 10 per night.

The factors that make the game more exciting are the reaction of the live audience and watching the popular athletes that play the sport. There is abundance of money in the advertisement of men’s basketball that will lead to high television ratings and a high percentage of attendance in their games (Silverman, 2015). For this reason critics believe that men’s basketball is more exciting to watch because of the popular players, the live audience and also the high quality of advertising and screening. Though the previous argument is valid, there is a lack of funding in women’s basketball that serves as a hindrance to acquire recognition (Bailey, 2013). If women’s basketball advertising are given the same amount of money that is given to men, their games will be more exciting because there will be more live viewers and higher quality
