Personal Reflection On Senior Project

Decent Essays

Before I started the Senior Project, I thought that I had all the time in the world to focus just on my project. I knew from the start that I wanted to make my project what it ended up being, a thermometer safety device for your pet, which made it clear to me of what I need to do to make it real like I had hoped. I expected my device to be completed to at least a prototype, but that didn’t happen; what did happen were a lot of design refining and future design plans. Before I started doing research, I figured it would be easy to find out the specific safe temperatures for dogs when in a car; which turned out to not be remotely simple.

Some of the obstacles I faced when working on the project were when I was unsure of the design, what was realistic for a first prototype/proof of concept, and dedicating enough time to specifically work on the project itself. I had issues finding the components that I could actually purchase, without needing to purchase directly from the company like the cellular tower connector. Time management for creative improvements never really happened consistently, so I’d get stuck on the idea at two in the morning and keep writing everything that …show more content…

I learned to view my designs in a critical way, just like my mentor who was able to look at my basic concept and poke holes that needed to be fixed; that skill alone is undoubtedly the most crucial skill I gained. Some of the lesser skills I learned throughout my senior project are my skill to code with Arduino and basic electrical hardware building. My original expectations were to know how to code and build basic things using electrical engineering knowledge, and possibly learn some business/marketing skills. At the end of last year, I knew I wanted to learn those skills, so I planned out what classes I should take and I feel I accomplished the skills I set goals to
