After my experience of several surgeries all with incredibly kind, caring and wonderful nurses and doctors, I defined a goal for myself: to become a nurse. I feel that I would be a great nurse because of my experience as a patient and I want to be able to do for others what they had done for me. Be there in the moment when people are most vulnerable and need reassurance the most. I find myself being able to empathize with people that are ill or injured. I feel for them; I can be alongside them as they go through their own emotions. I try to put myself in their shoes and to respond with compassion and kindness. I want to do something in my life that is challenging, interesting, and makes a difference in people's lives on a daily basis. To be a part of something bigger, something more important and by making a difference in the world,
Originally my desire was to become a physician assistant or nurse, until my heart started to reach out to those patients I took care patients exposed to unfavorable circumstance. Due to the exposure of many to victims, I saw in the emergency room, labor delivery, and relationships with personal friends my desire to aid in the need of such a disparity realized, the key to healthy people started at the Psychological
I cannot attribute my desire of becoming a nurse to following the footsteps of a family member, nor caring for a sick family member as I was growing up. I am a first generation high school student, furthermore, a college graduate. I became a mother at the very young age of sixteen. Being so young and growing up without the care of my parents, it was always said I, too, would end up in a rough situation and not be able to care for my child being so young myself. I continued out my days and nights being a high school teen mom. I graduated from high school in three years by attending night school while I was pregnant; allowing me to finish school sooner and obtain a better job that would allow me to take care of my son.
A nurse practitioner, is a profession that I have wanted to pursue for many years. The Family Nurse Practitioner program of the County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services and California State University of Los Angeles will provide the advanced level of education I need, to provide evidence based practice care to a wide variety of patients. My goal is to utilize this level of expertise and knowledge to give back to the community especially to the underprivileged inmate population in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department by providing them easy access to high quality, patient centered and cost effective health care.
The nursing field gives a person the opportunity to work with and care for elderly, sick, and injured patients. I want to join the registered nurse team because they take on multiple medical settings. Registered nurses are known as RNs. They are responsible for multiple things. Being a RN has a lot of responsibility. The topics I will be covering are: job description, specialties, trends, salary, benefits, and required trainings. These are essential things that a person needs to know before going into nursing school.

Registered Nurse A career as a registered nurse is to, “Save one life, you’re a hero. Save 100 life’s you’re a nurse.” which is rewarding and demanding. Nurses often work hours, with day and long night weekend hours, but the demand for nurses is growing, and many nurses express high job satisfaction.
I grew up in Mobile, Alabama in an area where higher education was neither valued nor desired. Upon graduating from high school, my father (who worked as a janitor) was offered a dependent-stipend for dependents of employees who attend a Historically Black University (HBU). My father felt that I had the potential to be a nurse. He drove me to Tuskegee Institute and dropped me off at the designated orientation site. Thus my orientation to college life.
When I first knew that I wanted to become a nurse, I was watching a show called Grey’s Anatomy with my grandmother and I was like that would be fun and adventurous to work in a hospital and to make a difference in people’s lives each and every day that you step foot in the door. And to make sure people get the care that they need. I would truly like to be one of those nurses that also helps others that can’t afford to go to a hospital. Do you know how many people die because they don’t have enough money or have the proper care that they need to help them. You could only imagine.
As a child, the medical field has been a heightened interest of mine. Having taken classes to become and emergency medical responder, being taught CPR, watching and learning from media about emergency services, my want to excel in medicine has only increased. I feel one of the biggest purposes in my life is to understand and help others through the pain and suffering that they might be going through. I wish to develop the knowledge and the skillset to be able to help or even save those in need. In addition, I hope to help others see how successful you can be if you are passionately driven for what you do.
Graduating this year from high school is going to be a major turning point in my life where important decisions will be made. My choice of attending college stems from me wanting to earn a good education and successful job. I plan on furthering my education in nursing. My goal is to learn more about nursing and the medical field that way I can become a Registered Nurse and eventually work with moms’ and babies in labor and delivery.

I will continue to expand my nursing knowledge with evidence based practice studies. And I will continue to ensure that I maintain a healthy lifestyle, as this will set a good example to patients and I will also be allowed to care for them to the best of my physical and mental ability.
One of the health professions I chose was a school nurse. What interests me about this career is how school nurse are very trustworthy and how they're able to communicate easily with student. Me, personally, I feel like I can tell them me issues and they wouldn’t be non-judgmental towards me. The school nurse provides direct care to students, provide care for injuries and acute illness for all students and long-term management of students with special health care needs. School Nurses also educate students on health care and growth development.
