Throughout high school, I have learn that one can accomplish so much in their education if they work hard. So as I start my college career, I aim to achieve my main goal to be on the Dean’s list every semester. I have prepared myself by developing good studying habits and time management skills that have benefited my grades in school. In addition, I plan to not only use my good habits but also to ask for assistance when needed, get involved in clubs, and find volunteer opportunities. I am confident that I will do exceptionally great at VCU because I feel they have one of the top professors, great technology, and a great environment to further my education.

As children we all dream, we dream about toys, monsters, castles, fairy tales and most importantly, we dream about our futures. I have always dreamed about success, but when I was younger I was not sure of what exactly success entailed. As I grew older and continued to grow physically, spiritually, and mentally I was able to discover my true aspirations and goals.
I am a senior at Ontario High School and am expecting to graduate this May. I was born in Querendaro, Mexico and then moved to Ontario, Oregon. While in high school I have already obtained a few college credits at a reduced price, but even though I obtained them at a reduced price it was still challenging to pay for them. In my house, there is my two parents, my two sisters and myself, all living with one parent household income and some help. I also had the advantage to complete the Certified Nursing Program as a high school student through the Allied Health. Since I got the opportunity to obtain these college credits and complete the CNA program while in high school, I took the fullest advantage.

As a graduate student in School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, I have acquired so many skills ranging from corporate communications, public relations, brand communications, advertising, Search Engine Marketing (SEM), advanced writing, public speaking, just to mention a few.
It was dark and there were so many noises around me as I slowly woke up and recalled I was in a hospital with abdominal pain. I then heard a familiar voice say “Sweetie, wake up! Wake up!” I opened my eyes to a blurry image of my mother. “Shhh… don't make any noises. We're leaving now. Just act like you are fine. We'll try to sneak out before anyone notices”, my mother said. She explained later that she could not afford to pay hospital bills, so we had to leave before any physician checked over. Living in Vietnam, I was filled with resentment towards their healthcare system, as people were rejected treatment and left to perish in the streets. As a child, I therefore never considered medicine as a career. My spark for medicine was unforeseen until I went on a high school field trip at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Virginia. Hovering over the glass ceiling of the operating theater, I watched doctors performing coronary bypass surgery while witnessing the heart beat stronger and stronger. At this magical moment, I was overwhelmed by the power of medicine to save people’s lives.
Every step of my life is a lesson to me. My early childhood was a typical middle class environment in the 1990's. Since I was ten, I had always aspired to be a social worker in my life. When I was nineteen years old, I confirmed nursing as my future profession.
My first year at Jamestown Community College as a student, I accomplished making Part-time Dean’s List two semesters back to back. Beginning college that year my personal goal was to strive making new habits to get the best experience out of college, while keeping up with my grades. I took classes to guide me through learning paths, but it they taught me ways of accomplishing what you wanted out of life and other significant information in classes. Prior, to entering to college I received a scholarship called Chautauqua Educational Opportunity to attend Jamestown Community College. Why I want to attend UNC Wilmington is because college has always been a very prominent milestone in my life. Ever since I was young, I was yearning to learn more about college and what I could accomplish there and how I could expand my educational horizons. I never found the perfect college, despite years of searching. A few years ago though, I did find my perfect college. It was UNCW. After stepping onto the campus, I immediately felt like I was at home. It was a second nature to be there, pass the buildings, and walk with the students. I could see myself sitting with a group of friends, studying on a Friday night, or taking part in clubs and activities that I could have never dreamed of. After entering VCU, I faced a lot of challenges that changed my life. As a student, I was able to think critically and write even more academically than before. My experience as a student in VCU broad my visions and narrowed my thinking regarding a particular idea.
I want from my college experience is to become a biomedical engineer and to become a better person of great character. At WSU, I want to take any type of class that will help me become knowledgeable to become a biomedical engineer. I am determined to use any type of resources WSU can provide me, to achieve my goal. I also want to join any type of club/organization to improve on how to be leader, a team player and to help others. I have learned from high school how to become a leader, a team player and how to help others. I want to better improve my qualities, learn from others, and improve my knowledge at WSU.
One of my academic goals is to get the best education possible at Allan Hancock College before I transfer. I will accomplish this by always paying attention to all my teachers and do all my work and most importantly make school my number one priority. Another academic goal that I have is to transfer to Cal Poly or Long Beach and obtain my Master’s degree in education. I also want to graduate with honor and with a 3.5 GPA or above. I decided that I wanted to be a teacher because I like helping people out and also I enjoy working with kids. I selected these goals because my economic background is not the great, most of the money that my family makes goes to the rent and daily expenses. We live in a small apartment and we are a family of five; we don’t usually go out and eat at restaurants only in special occasions.
