Ever since I was very young, the firefighter program has had a huge impact on me. My mother was a firefighter in Venezuela before moving here to the U.S. All throughout my life I have adopted the idea of being a firefighter as my own. But growing up has made me ambivalent of what I would like to do for the future; since new jobs and opportunities were presented to me, I have had second thoughts on my career choice.

Have you ever thought about the extremely harsh conditions that the firefighters from today experience. And the fact that every time they suit up they know that they are about to risk their lives for someone else. Well for my career I know that I want to do this for someone else.

Firefighting is a career that can make you feel proud and accomplished, and it is a career in which I have a lot of respect for. In order to be a firefighter you must be in shape, prepared, experienced, and ready to deal with your job emotionally as well as physically. This means that an on duty firefighter dies about every 5 days. Firefighters have enough stress with their everyday job, then you add losing a fellow member it puts another level to that stress. Imagine two siblings go out to play basketball like they do multiple times everyday and one of them end up dying in a freak accident. Horrible right? It is the same thing with firefighters. They go out on a call. There is a freak accident and there is not a great outcome.
