Firefighting My Passion Have you ever thought about the extremely harsh conditions that the firefighters from today experience. And the fact that every time they suit up they know that they are about to risk their lives for someone else. Well for my career I know that I want to do this for someone else. During my lifetime it’s been my dream to be a firefighter. And there pay doesn’t seem too bad either. The average pay for a firefighter is around $49,330.(This information was gathered from Infohio). Another thing I know is that to get the certification that I need all I would have to do is go to tolles. Which could save me loads of money because to pay for the classes alone it would usually cost over $2,000 a class. And so when I saw that offer I knew I had to jump on it to save me money and time. …show more content…
I have always dreamt of being a firefighter because I have always had the passion and drive to help other people and to possibly make an impact in the community. There’s just something about being with other people and helping them when in need that just really appeals to me. Another reason I am interested is because the job does not take anything other than a certification for the most part. This means that after going through Tolles I will have the certification that I need to possibly get a job right out of high school. This will allow me to make a good living when I graduate from high
In 2012 I joined the Harlan Fire Department continuing my long standing commitment to my community as a volunteer firefighter EMT. As a member of the fire department I respond to many different types of calls. Some of these calls include but are not limited to wildland fires, structure fires, car accidents, and medical calls. As an active member I was qualified as a Firefighter/EMT, confined space rescue technician, and technical rope rescue technician. We have a wide range of equipment ranging from type one to type six engines, a heavy rescue truck, UTV, and a 75' ladder truck. With the equipment and training I was a part of a successful grain bin rescue saving the life of one local farmer and part of a successful rescue of a trapped
Today I researched 3 careers that I would like to further more explore once I graduate high school, these three careers were border patrol, military officer and nurse. All these jobs interest me because I would like to do any of the three, they are all very well paying jobs and they seem like very interactive and fun something’s I would like to do because desk jobs aren’t for me. So I am going to explain why I chose each job.
This paper explores the different aspects in living a firefighter’s life. The topics that will be covered are the various types of technology when being a fireman, the different tactics you see on a day to day basis, the physical abilities one must be capable of, and the types of equipment used. The technology used today to help fight fires is extremely progressed and different than it was even just ten years ago. If it were not for these new inventions, communication would not be as easy and complex for any fire station. Firemen face different obstacles every day and have to be ready to jump right in with whatever the circumstance may be. Tactics such as
Getting to be an officer is an amazing thing. There are so many wonderful things about being officer. I want to be officer because it's an experience of a lifetime.
Firefighting had been a dream of mine for years, and I had finally made it into Fire Academy. The day I walked into the fire station I had the feeling of a kid in the candy store. I had no idea how the next six months would change me as a person. We trained our bodies both physically and emotionally. I did thousands of pushups, learned to tie knots, practiced search and rescue, and studied my textbook for long hours every night. I could feel my body tiring, and I could feel my mind getting weak. The excitement that filled me on my first day had drifted into the back
It gives me a leg up on other applicants for police jobs that only have a degree or military training. With both military training and a degree, the only competition for a job is someone with both military training and degree like me or someone who already is a police officer and is looking to move somewhere else. The job outlook for future police jobs looks good because as the population increases every year, the criminal element increases as well resulting in more police officers needed to deal with the increase in crime. This increase in police jobs also means there are more openings for advancement to higher level police jobs such as Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) or a police dog handler (K-9 Unit). Both of these police jobs appeal to me and would be the pinnacle of my career, only barely being beaten by becoming a SWAT Commander or a Police Chief. Getting either a SWAT or K-9 Officer job is going to be tough because these two higher level police jobs are the most sought after by police officers, especially those officers that are ex-military as in the case of SWAT. In order to get a SWAT or K-9 job, I plan on showing them I am the best person for the job. I am working on this even now by keeping up with my physical training by working out twice a day. I go to the gym for two hours in the morning and then in the evening, doing sprint drills
Being a firefighter is everything to me; it’s my dream job. But why did I want to embark on a lifelong, rewarding journey as a fireman? Looking back, I realized that three things really intensified my love for firefighting and sparked my dreams to become a career firefighter. The first was a near fatal car accident that my grand mom was involved in. My next realization is simple - I love helping others and having the potential to do something positive for the community I serve. Finally, the excitement along with the adrenaline I have when I get to go on a call Is like no other feeling; there is no other feeling that I can compare it to.
Firefighting has specific duties such as put out fires with specialized hoses and treat sick people and get them out of houses with burning buildings. It requires a lot of commitment and you will be forced to carry a person outside of a burning building and you must not be claustrophobic because you will be in a burning building with thick smoke trying to find somebody and you will get cramped by the smoke and debris. In this career this person need to be allowed to perform in the career with excellence and they need to be able to withstand heat and they need to be able to have the strength to be able to carry out a person in a burning building or any
Oklahoma Highway Patrol is the agency I have always hoped to work for. As a child, I loved their hats and back then, some Troopers drove Camaros, my favorite car. I was inspired to be in law enforcement mostly from my dad, who joined the Shawnee Police Department in 1987 and retired after 23 years of service. I can remember coming home after school and asking my dad what he had done that day at work and he always had a funny story, he never shed any light on the danger of the job; I grew up assuming police officers never witnessed terrifying or awful things, I only knew the fun and exciting part of it. After working side by side with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol as a deputy at the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, I always enjoyed working car accidents with the highway patrol and learning more about the long history of the agency. I became most interested in the agency after coming home from military training. I noticed several similarities in the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the military; physical fitness and their rigorous training academy. The position I have sought after the most is becoming a field trooper, then moving on to become a pilot in their aviation support division. For me, the pay is also enticing. I am married to a pilot and together we have one son. It is very important to me to be able to make a decent living and do what I love, law enforcement. To me, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol would be the best career decision for myself and my family.
However, I am currently in the process of being hired by the District of Columbia Fire Department but this is only a step in the right direction. I strongly believe that with my education further opportunities will arise for me, than just being a firefight / emt. Although, I have had my eyes on being a professional firefighter for many years, I wish to use my education in the behind the scenes work. My love for the fire department started at a very young age. Growing up my grandmother became very ill at a young age; this is where I first found interest in the medical field. The passion that countless doctors, nurses, medical staff, and fire department members had for a stranger encouraged me to pursue my career in this
Some would say that one is better than the other and some the opposite. In this paper, we will learn the importance of both and the difference in both. A firefighter is a firefighter no matter what his/her salary, or their level of training.
For that same reason i decided to join Police explorers; i thought it would be a fun activity to do on the weekends. It turned out to be a great experience for me because i made new friends, learned communication skills and exposed me to the importance of working and being part of a team. The trainings of police explorers took
As a kid I looked up to my twin brothers, Sandy and Randy, who were 19 years older than me. When I was around 13 years old, I started tagging along with my brother, Sandy, who was a volunteer firefighter. I loved running calls with Sandy, and knew that I would be a firefighter when I grew up. I will never forget the time I went to a house fire with my brother. It was like yesterday. The fire pager went off. Sandy turned on his red light, and we took off in his truck. Before I knew it, we pulled up to a house with fire shooting out the first floor window, and Sandy went to work as a firefighter. That was it. From that point on, I knew I would be a firefighter.
In the past, most people thought firefighters had a pretty easy career. Much of the time they were off work or just laying back waiting for
