Have you ever heard a the bell go off signaling the end of the school day and you just want to get home and relax, but you remember you have a ton of homework to do? This constantly happens to me all the time. A lot times I get homework from multiple classes all in one day. Often after school I have sports which already takes up enough time. Usually I get my assignments turned in on time, but to the expense of spending time with friends or family. Sometimes when I get home and start doing my homework I might struggle with the topic and there isn't a teacher there to help me, so I'm left trying to search for websites that might help me or ask my parents to help. Having homework on a daily basis is causing problems for me, and I think incorporating time in the school day can really help in solving this issue. There are many causes to this problem. First of all many teacher feel that they need to give homework to see if a student understands the lesson they are on. I understand why teachers give homework for this reason however there are many other ways of tracking a students understanding of a lesson like giving daily warm up questions at the beginning of class. Another reason for homework is there isn't enough dedicated time to do work at school. Teachers use homework to use for students grades. There are many reasons for students receiving homework, but receiving little to no homework could really be beneficial to students. Getting large amount of homework has negatively affected me in many ways. In "Is to Much Homework Bad For Kid's Health?" By Sandra Levy, it states "communities who spend too much time on homework experience more stress, physical health problems, a lack of balance in their lives, and alienation from society." I find that homework causes me a lot of stress. Many days I find myself up late at night trying to complete homework, and this causes a lot of stress. The next day when I go to school I'm tired and get even more stressed. When I spend time doing homework outside of school I spend less with family and friends. I often have trouble with balancing homework, time with family, and athletics. To succeed in the future you need to learn the skill of balancing things, but it's hard to learn it
After a long day of school, students are tired, stressed, and overworked. This is often something that is ignored when it comes to students of all ages. Homework provides a heavy load that can add additional stress and time on a student’s shoulders. Schools should be making sure that students are receiving enough work throughout the day, to make sure kids do not have the worry of homework when school is over. Students who receive lots of homework, may not have enough time in the evenings to be around family, friends and enjoy the rest of their day.
When I was a single parent, there was nothing I liked more than going to the gym. Although not popular to announce, it was more for the crèche than for my burning desire to workout! Having time to re-focus, have a shower uninterrupted and chat to other adults made all the difference. We hear time and time again that us mums need to take care of ourselves, but it can be a hard task to add to the growing demands we place on ourselves. Research tells us that keeping physically active is great at helping to manage or minimise the likelihood of perinatal (while pregnant and after) depression and anxiety. Getting out of the house with the pram and going for a walk is one free option...but it can be too hot, too cold, raining, overcast, boring,
When a class is almost over and a teacher starts assigning homework, every student's heart drops. When students have an excess of homework, they do not do as well. Even though homework is a good tool to help teachers teach students subjects, teachers should give less homework because too much homework causes mental health issues in students and less homework helps improve test scores.
This is because I believe that students already get enough practice in an average school day and giving them too much homework will lead them to despise learning and school. I think teachers should not give homework for three main reasons: so kids can have more family time, participate in other out-of-school activities without worry, and so they don’t have to stay up late finishing homework, which greatly strains their academic performance. Homework affects your family life in two main ways. First, you don’t have time for family activities after school if you are overwhelmed with homework. And second, if you stay up late doing homework, you will be too tired to do any family activities. Teachers should not consider other activities when assigning homework. This is because not all students have the same
The survey of 1,000 K-12 teachers found that on average, they assign 3.5 hours of homework each week. For high school students who typically have seven classes with different teachers, that’s approximately 24.5 hours each week. Students spend approximately 35 hours a week at school and around 25 hours on homework. This lengthens each school day from around 7 hours to 10 hours. Now add the time students spend on extracurricular activities and sleep. They are faced with such packed schedules, and yet we wonder why they are struggling. Homework consumes an excessive amount of their time, and if we banned it, their schedules would be far more tolerable. The questionability of homework causes it to be one of the most
When you think about school one of the first things that pops into people’s mind is homework. Basically if you have asked your parents or your grandparents they would say that they remember the homework load. Now we all know that homework can be beneficial but also can be very unhealthy with all of the stress that it causes. Over the years the homework load has increased because of the fact that schools think that they need to try to keep up with other countries in academics. And will doing all of this homework now be all for nothing later? The homework load has increased these past couple of years and it is causing a lot of stress on kids and overall is not helping their academics in the long run.
The Board of Education thinks homework helps with our school work or tests. Also, according to Alfie Kohn students should not be held responsible if they did not do their homework because teachers do not know how much homework they have at the end of the day to finish by tomorrow. However, this is ineffective because the teachers think their students always have someone like a mother, father or sibling to help but they aren't always free. Sometimes some people need help doing things so they have their parents or family push them a little bit and guide them through most of it. According to Wendy J. Ponte she has to help her kids out with homework 24/7 and has to deal with them being all whiny and acting totally different since they do not want to do their homework. Also According to Judeen Bartos he talks about the students complaining about the homework so much that the parents get stressed out because they have to stop whatever they are doing and help their kids with their homework. Students should not receive homework because it is harmful in many different
If you’re a student you know the stress that runs through you all day, even after school ends. Yes, the learning part of the day is done but there’s still all homework that needs to be finished. As soon as you step foot inside your house, it’s time to decide whether to start studying for the science test or finish the history project. Then you would think to yourself and say; neither because you still have the stack of math homework laying on your bed. Nowadays students get so much homework that they are usually up and losing sleep in order to complete it. On an average, a student should not spend more than 60 minutes on homework per day, but if each teacher assigns homework which exceeds the time limit it adds to the workload. Due to a lack
Have you ever gotten home after a long day of school ready to relax only to realize you have homework to do? Millions of kids around the world go to school for 7+ hours a day just so they can go home and do even more work. Students should not have homework.
For one thing, homework may actually make it harder to learn. Many people say that the more sleep you get, the more your brain rests. When you are rested, it is easier to focus on learning. On school days it is difficult to get the rest you need. Many students get up at 5:30 in the morning to get ready and make it to school by 7:20. After spending many hours learning in school, they return home to do homework. Some students also participate in sports after school that take up much of their time. By the
The amount of homework being piled on kids is causing stress and sleep lost. It's also catching teachers attentions like Diane Garfield, a fifth-grade teacher in San Francisco who says “I believe that we’re stressing children out.” ( greatschools.org). The pressure brought onto kids about completing homework is often too much. (wsuscholarlyediting.org). As teenink.com states, “American students should get less homework because too much can cause a great deal of stress, too much time is required
Our world today relies very heavily on money, which is why a 14-year-old should be able to involve themselves in the growing economy. The age for getting a job should be decreased to age 14 to increase teen responsibility, help with rising costs of school fees, and assist families financially.
The value of homework varies, most high school students don’t mind doing it, but most students find it stressful themselves. Homework has been a subject of debate over the years varying among students and educators within different grade levels. Even though most students find homework stressful, it’s easy for others who focused on the lesson and understand most of it. Most kids who do homework claim that it usually takes about an hour or 2 just to finish depending on classes and how much work is given. Other students including myself have been under pressure due to amount of work assigned by their teachers, grades, and how long it will take to complete.
When a student gets home they usually sit down at the table and pull out their homework. Piles of papers rise all the way to the ceiling. “Do I have to do all of this tonight? It’s due tomorrow, but I can’t finish this all in time!” the student complains. American students should get less homework on a daily basis because too much can cause a great deal of stress, too much time is required to complete it, and it impacts free time and sleep.
Students can get stressed out because of the overload of homework and it can be too much to handle. Homework can be a stressor instead of a motivator for students. Most schools teach for about seven hours a day yet when the student goes home, they have more work to deal with. Adolescents will be bored with the homework and all of the knowledge that will
