Surrounded by darkness late at night, searching for shooting stars, the silence is broken by a loud crashing sound followed by the apparent sound of a body rolling down stairs. Quickly turning lights on, I discover my eldest dog at the bottom of the steps after tumbling down the wooden planks in the dark. Despite the sympathy I felt for the confused and slightly startled dog, my laughter could be heard down the street. My mother scolded me for laughing at the poor animal, but how could I not?
Now, I’m not an advocate for animal cruelty in any way, but this dog has been known to be rather clumsy. From falling down stairs to face planting after tripping over his own feet, my dog is clumsier than most humans. The many times my family and I have had a good laugh or a moment of fear could fill a short novel. He has been a source of happiness for my family and myself and has kept me running even when I felt I was at my lowest. I was raised with this dog, along with a cat that did not like me when I was younger because of my tendency to pull his tail and ears. My dog taught me how to love animals through their ups and downs, because there were many downs on the rollercoaster that comes with owning a dog. As a young rescue, he was extremely nervous to be in a new environment. We did not know whether or not he was abused before he was rescued, but his nervous tendencies made us believe that something must have happened to make him behave in such a way. By nervous tendencies, I
People typically have misunderstandings about dogs because they treat them like humans, which is unnatural in the dog world. However, there is nothing wrong with loving your pet. The problem is that the owners will let bad behavior fester and eventually get out of control. There are even some owners who will take the dog’s side above their kid’s because
Animal Cruelty is a problem that many ignore. People are oblivious to these animals and the negligence their owners show. Animal cruelty is an underlying problem in today’s society, and the only way to counteract these problems, is for this generation to do something about it.
Animal testing has been one of the issues that people are fighting overtime because of its moral. Even though some results of tests are successful on people, many people are still fighting for the animal’s rights. They believe that animals should have their own rights to live a free life where they belong, just like their species. In scientists point of view, animals have been one of the main subjects to test on, but a lot of them are currently looking forward to use and develop alternatives for the cruel act of animal testing.
Over the years that animals have been used for entertainment purposes, in most cases it was likely to engage the audience to learn about a specific animal and help grow love and care for that animal. Today, animals are seen doing show stopping tricks whether it be on TV, in circuses, or in theme parks. However, are we unintentionally exploiting these animals to situations that they should not have to deal with? Specifically, when in come to cases of wild animals that follow their primal instinct to survive in their selective habitats. The audience witnessing these commercials, ads, and shows may feel adoration for these animals but the facts are that for these wild animals confinement is detrimental, their quality of life diminishes, and
And on our way home, she almost peed in the backseat of the car because she was so scared. However, when we finally got home, she was overjoyed that she finally had a good home where she would be loved forever. Not only by six humans, but by three other animals including, two cats and one other dog named bella, tiger, my two cats, and libby, the other dog. She had to go right into the backyard because we were worried about how she would act around the other animals. But when she smelled Libby’s breath on the toys she busted through the screen door and she licked all of the animals until they looked like they swam in a pool.
Canines have the ability to serve as seeing-eye dogs, firedogs, service dogs or just a playful, loyal companion. The closer the dog and human’s relationship is, the stronger the feelings between them are. Canines have a talent of recognizing dangerous situation and being there for humans in their time of
Why would anyone abuse an animal? Animal abuse is rather common, you could be doing it even if you don’t think you are. There are many animals that deal with abuse or neglect, about 1,423 animals a year. That’s in the U.S. alone. Animals are living creatures, just like you, and they’re not cheap. Neglect is another version of abuse, and it can come in many forms. Neglect could be starving them, not giving them medical care, not paying attention to them, etc, etc. Animals are just like humans, I mean, sure they can’t make their own meals, and they can’t drive a car, but that doesn’t mean they have fewer rights than you do. If an animal is abused or neglected the animal will be taken and the owner should be charged. If someone abuses an
I wanted another friend to hang out with, since my brother got boring sometimes, so I talked my family into getting a dog. We looked at our local pet shelter. Right when I walked in I walked over to a dachshund (She was the quietest dog in the shelter… little did my family know *eye roll). A week later the dachshund was home with the new name Libby (Thinking back on it, we should have named her Cleopatra since she looks like someone applied heavy eyeliner all over her eyes). Libby definitely tricked us with her shy personality at the pound. She is a force to be reckoned with, but I love her. Libby has little dog syndrome. She picks fights with the biggest and baddest, semi trucks. The tiny beast also finds it necessary to escort out all of our visitors to our property line (She runs on the side of the road barking until after the car passes the property line. My family is still not sure how she knows where our property line is… but she has mastered it). Do not get me wrong, Libby is a lover, and clingy lover at that. Every night I fall asleep she has always burrowed under the covers right next to my feet. My little fighter has taught me to stand my ground, no matter how tough the opponent is. This has helped me become successful in many of my academics and athletics in high school. This lesson will also be very
My dog rudy has always been with me up until not very long ago. Before I was born my parents rescued rudy and I think that may have influenced how he acted the rest of his life. Rudy was trained to be a fight dog when he was really small only about a year old and he was also trained to attack anybody in uniform like a police officer or a firefighter and that what could have cost him his life. One day the man who trained rudy was arrested on multiple charges and my dog attacked the police officers, when they gained control the officers locked him in a bathroom with no food and only toilet water. Three days later the grandmother of the man arrested called my auntie who had just had a baby and could not care for a dog and
Animal cruelty is a serious issue in the U.S. and it needs to be stopped. Why would anyone be cruel to animals? Why are animals used for entertainment? Should people I try to stop someone from abusing an animal if they I see it? How can people I find out if a company tests its products on animals? Data has stated that in America, 70.1% animal cruelty cases involved dogs, 20.9% involved cats, and 24.1% involved other animals. Finding the answers to these questions will help people to become more aware of animal cruelty and hopefully change their treatment on animals.
I do not have a magical story where my dog saved my life, or how she can do backflips, or that she can catch a Frisbee with no hands. I have a yellow lab named Marley—super original name right—she was bit dumb as a pup, which I believe has led to her current behaviors. She was dumb in the sense that she would run headfirst into the large poles holding our back patio up. Each time she hit her head she would look up at you and with a look on her face as to say, “what is that doing there.” I believe that her dare-devilish escapades led to her current belief system in which she thinks she is a cat. This was cute when she was twenty pounds, but is no longer cute that she is eighty pounds. As you step out of the back door she runs up to you slams into your legs, toppling toddlers, and crippling grown men, and proceeds to rub her back up against your legs as a cat would do. We cannot seem to shake that habit; the best part in the whole process is the ungodly amount of hair she just left on your pants.
I had always wanted a German Shepherd Dog because they were big and possessed a fierce demeanor, something I always wanted, but never had, in any dog. They were also born for shepherding, which was important to me because I cared for my sheep above all else. First, I ordered a book called German Shepherds for Dummies. It taught me that a German Shepherd Dog understands and obeys its native language, German, the best. I started learning commands and by this time, I had found a replacement. In Kentucky, a police training facility had a purebred German Shepherd Dog that they were giving away because it failed a crucial test. The K9 refused to bite anybody no matter what. I told my father and we hopped into the Chevy and were headed southbound to acquire this
Animals are the beginning to the best nerve wrecking filled love you could ever dream of for your life. Ever since I was a young child, I’ve always resonated with the idea of helping animals more so than anyone and anything else in this world. My love for animals had begun when I was a mere four years old. I’ve always had pets: dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, and much more. To find out more about how to help adoptable animals in shelters, I contacted Amanda Smasal, a community outreach coordinator at Wayside Waifs. Wayside Waifs is no-kill shelter located in Kansas City, Missouri which has adoptable dogs and cats, ready and willing to go to safe, loving homes.
Many companies, like McDonalds, lie about what actually goes on at their farms. “Free range” “Cruelty free” “Killed in a humane way” Those are just some the things that consumers are told and believe everyday. Saying thank you to the animal before munching on its flesh and bones doesn’t excuse what happens to them. The abuse and torture animals go through at factory farms isn’t fair and needs to be stopped immediately.
Since the summer of 2009, I had a dog named Sammy. My dog was always following me around and enjoyed playing fetch and tug-of-war all the time. Although, my dog wasn’t always playful and friendly. Sammy would bark at anyone who passed by our door or our fence. He was a very protective dog was all, he wouldn’t mean any harm, until that day came.
