To properly engage the average high school student on why they should pursue a major in environmental science, it is pivotal to showcase unexpected consequences of consistent indifferent behavior towards preserving and improving the environment. In a world where the environment’s shifting conditions due to climate change become more prevalent and impactful, it should be evident that modifications are necessary. However, the exact change and path to fluctuating behaviors and societal perceptions of climate change make this an extremely difficult subject to tackle. Climate change in its simplest form is defined by NASA as “a change in the typical weather of a region or city”. The chart below highlights the significance and severity of the climate related issues and the risks they pose with natural disasters, extreme weather events, involuntary migration, food crises, and failure of climate change adaptation posing the greatest risks.
The global ramifications of climate change are based on predictions and models that may turn out to be overshooting the severity or being too naïve and understating how much worse conditions will become. Indicating the need to summarize the expected consequences, economically internationally and domestically and estimated impacts on major cities throughout the world. The graphic below highlights that the poorest and southern most communities in America will be devastated as a result of climate change, compared to the northern regions which
Throughout the years climate change has been a controversial issue affecting individuals worldwide; climate change has been debated by scientists including the rest of the world. Many factors can affect climate change such as biological factors and human actions. The intricate details are what go unnoticed and unmanaged, people may be greatly against this claim. However, it is underlying factors, like landfills and driving cars, that help maintain the increasing temperature of the earth thus, climate change has become a controversial topic. There have been concerns that climate change does not exist but there is reliable proof that it does even if many scientists do not agree on the existence of climate change.
concerned of the effects climate change could have on the world. There is so much evidence that climate change exist so we need to find a way to stop climate change so the effects of climate change won’t happen. We soon learned that the cause of climate change could have been through greenhouse gases. There are different types of greenhouse gases, but the one we’re going to talk about is carbon dioxide. Greenhouse gases (which are located below the atmosphere) are gases that allow light from the sun to pass through the gases and some light/heat back out into space, but a certain amount of light gets trapped on the earth. This is called the greenhouse effect.
Brimming with absorbing and educative statistics and facts, What We Know About Climate Change first chooses to challenge the
Glaciers and arctic ice are melting. Oceans are growing increasingly acidic. Sea levels are rising. Droughts, floods, heatwaves, and downpours are becoming a regular occurrence. Climate change is not a hoax. The United States ranks second in the world regarding emissions of carbon dioxide. As more carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere the Earth is gradually warming up. Even the slightest change in temperatures can make drastic changes in our climate. It is time to take action combatting climate change through lowering our use of fossil fuels, increasing our research development on geoengineering, and implementing a carbon tax.
Climate change is a dilemma in which anticipated too long to resolute, Earth will forever be damaged; bringing life on Earth to a permanent transition in an unfavorable state. With many contributing factors to climate change, humans have generated numerous amounts of damage, rather than showing an effort to save the atmosphere. Believe it or not, climate change is a contributing factor on human lifespan, potentially lowering the average amount of time each human spends on Earth. On the contrary, many companies like Greenpeace have scrutinized climate change and found affordable ways in cleaning our environment. Companies like Greenpeace offer a very reasonable pricing that could transpire economies positively rather than negatively. Generally speaking, finding a solution to climate change should be the main thought for each and every person’s mind; being that personal health and consideration for future generations have more of an impact than other issues in society today.
The world’s climate is rapidly changing as we know it, and the culprit is none other than climate change itself. Many are doubtful of the cause, and even more are extremely defense over the topic. One can only respect their bounds for they are not willing to truly grasp at the fact that humans are the true cause of climate change, because of 6 main greenhouse gasses. Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4) Nitrous Oxide (N2O), Perfluorocarbons (PFCs), Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), and Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) (Kyoto Protocol). All of these gasses contribute the world wide pollution. If we are to face such a drastic situation as that millions will die at such a feat, and change how we use our spent resources to where it becomes possible threats need to be made. There need to be changes in our government, laws, and even peoples’ beliefs on how we effect our world. Such changes have been made but only to a point whit really falls on the lines of economics and policies. The United Nations (UN) has been trying to get everyone on the “Save earth bandwagon” known as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). They have implemented 2 main objectives for this goal, The Kyoto Protocol, and The Paris Agreement.
We see monsters as someone or something that kills, destroys, attacks, us. Then why don’t we see the monster that we have created right in front of us. Climate change has changed our earth drastically in a negative way. Climate change not kills, and destroys, but it is also change our environment for the worse. Over the last century we have made climate change into a monster and we have made some changes, yet they aren’t enough to stop it. Climate change has caused many problems like, rising temperature, melting icecaps, rising water levels, extreme weather, and so much more. Climate change is a monster that we created as humans, but we also need to stop it, because it will slowly turn our world into an unlivable world. Even though, we have made some changes, but we still need to look at exactly what the effects of climate change are.
The human race, and the planet as a whole are facing many problems. Some of these problems are just minor slightly inconveniencing and many of them are leading to catastrophic irreversible damage. The most detrimental of our problems is climate change-the drastic change in global or regional temperatures-and environmental destruction.” Climate change is a global problem with grave implications: environmental, social, economic, political and for the distribution of goods. They represent one of the principal challenges facing humanity in our day: Greed (Laudato Si pp.25).” Many people believe there is no way to solve or stop these problems, but many of the works dealing with Francis and Clare offer solutions to those problem. The solution to our environmental crises lies in our ability to no longer live in excess.
One of the main themes during my Presidency will be to renew the United States as a global leader in combating the toughest issues, most notably of which is climate change. It is no secret that the United States is a massive producer of greenhouse gas emissions. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports, “in 2014, U.S. greenhouse gas emissions totaled 6,870 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents” (Climate Change Indicators). In fact, the only other country that emits more greenhouse gases than the United States is China. However, the United States does produce more pollution than China in terms of per capita. Moreover, even though the United States is a major polluter, President Trump has withdrawn the United States from the Paris Agreement in 2017. However, in my presidency, the United States will renegotiate entry into the Paris Accords, and furthermore, I will put the United States on a path to become a leader in green energy, such as nuclear power, as well as renewable energy, such as wind, water, and solar power. The importance of addressing climate change cannot be underestimated. The U.S. government website, globalchange.gov, states, “impacts related to climate change are evident across regions and in many sectors important to society --such as human, health, agriculture and food security, water supply, transportation, energy, ecosystems, and others-- and are expected to become increasingly disruptive throughout this century and beyond” (Understand
he citizens of the richest countries in the world feel the least guilt about their impact on climate change despite it being the greatest (Monbiot). Yet by ignoring it, not only are they harming the world, but people of places that are more affected by the current climate change. Clearly, people need to care about one another before they can care about climate change.
Debate around the global climate change has reached a fever pitch in recent years. Though the storm has been swirling around for the past two decades, little more than talk and sweet nothings have pervaded discourse. Though certain political segments have taken the downside seriously, they have had difficulty mobilizing all fronts. The looming question: how to secure our energy future? Ideally, the gradual weaning off non-renewables and transitioning into clean, sustainable fuels would occur naturally. Citizens would notice climate effects and realize the importance of meeting long-term energy needs, making changes in their daily lives accordingly. This shift is not happening fast enough, though. So, the more important question regards speeding up the process. Policymakers should adhere to a three-point plan: subsidize clean energy and provide incentives for transition, impose a carbon tax, and work with international governments to diffuse the benefits of judicious climate policy. If implemented together, these policies will seriously abate climate effects in the United States, and provide substantial economic benefits. And if pitched properly in the international theater, the United States can lead by example and have worldwide consequences. Making these policies palatable across political sensibilities presents a deep challenge. Moreover, bogus opposition to the transition has been spouted through megaphones and recycled in public debates. A sensible response that digs
Contrary to what Oreskes and Conway believe, I personally do not believe that climate change will be the reason for the end of Western civilization. While I do believe it is a major issue that shouldn’t be ignored like it has been in the past. I do believe it is not too late to prevent it from causing the end of the world. We will always have to live with the consequences of our actions, although we must not lose hope for any given reason. I will argue against them and provide examples of ways already put in place towards the prevention of future effects climate change may cause.
Climate change is about the changes in global temperature over time, the climate patterns, and the causes and effects of climate change. As we all know, climate change has been one of the most important global issues in our world, and I believe the only way we could help with the temperature changing situation is if we all work together, by using our knowledge, our technologies, and our resources. This essay is about understanding climate change, and what we can do to stop it. In this paper, I will be analysing different perspectives on this issue, what Canada has done so far, and what I believe Canada should do in the future. To fully understand climate change, we must first look at the causes of this issue and how it is affecting our world.
Climate change is pressing issue in the world for quite some time now. Early it was known more aggressively as global warming, but most recently it has been considered as climate change. But over the years there being many different perspectives and viewpoints on the issue. Some nations don’t even think about in their quest to become a developed nation. Certain Developed nations have taken great strides in preventing climate change. Other Developed nations are aware of what’s happening to the planet, but haven’t taken too many decisions in Preventing climate change. But why do different nations have different perspectives on climate change? Recently the United States have been weak on climate change to ensure jobs, but many are critical of Recent Presidents trump climate Change policy and Europe is leading the way combating climate change with Paris agreement.
One topic that biologists are most interested in is the patterns of life on Earth. One of the ultimate questions for a biologist to answer is how do new species arise, and for what reasons do they disappear? Biologists all over the world are searching for answers regarding the rapidly diminishing amounts, and in some cases, extinction of many of Earth’s species. Scientists are coming out with results that show current anthropogenic climate change is the main culprit for Earth’s continuing loss of biodiversity. With estimations showing future continuing rapid decreases and losses in biodiversity, climate change is likely leading Earth into its sixth mass extinction.
