My claim is that gun control laws should be enacted. Its really not so hard for an American to get a gun and use it to harm others. Millions of people in the USA die or are hurt from from guns. Guns aren't making us safer there making us less safe. While there are countless reasons why they should be enacted the main ones are that lots of people die, people use guns illegally without licenses to hurt others and because people commit suicide.
The first reason why gun control laws should be enacted is because lots of people die from guns every day. Countless people in the USA have been affected by someone they know having to die from guns. According to the CDC, ¨There were 464,033 total gun deaths between 1999 and 2013: 270,237 suicides (58.2% of total deaths); 174,773 homicides (37.7%); and 9,983 unintentional deaths (2.2%)¨(CDC, "Data & Statistics (WISQARS)," (wisqars.cdc.gov). Those figures alone tell just how dangerous guns are when placed in the hands of human beings. It is so easy for people to be able to get guns that almost anyone can get their hands on one if they want to. For instance, according to Mayors. "The Connection between Domestic Violence and Weak Gun Laws is alarmingly high." (www.ncdsv.org). If it is easy for people to get guns they can be used for almost any reason. This quote shows how having weak gun laws contributes to Domestic Violence. We need to make gun control laws to protect us because lots of people are dying or being hurt from gun usage. The second reason that gun control laws should be enacted is because many people steal legally owned guns and misuse them. Lots of people steal guns from other people and use them without proper training. This is really dangerous and isn't safe at all for Americans. When people use a weapon like a gun they should be well trained in how to use them. Guns being terribly missed and hurt people. According to "almost all guns used in criminal acts enter circulation via initial illegal transaction.¨ (Institute of Medicine, "Priorities for Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-Related Violence," www.iom.edu, June 5, 2013). When people use a weapon like a gun they should be well trained in how to use them. Lots of people steal guns from
Gun Control should not be enacted, Gun Control Laws have been proven ineffective in other countries, The Second Amendment allows American Citizens the right to keep and bear arms, and Gun Control laws take power from American Citizens, granted to them in the Constitution. Gun Control Laws have been proven ineffective in other countries. Gun Control Laws take power from the people. The Second Amendment grants US Citizens the right to keep and bear arms. Gun control laws would not help the United States decrease gun
In today’s society the majority of the crimes are still being committed by people who have possessed a firearm that has been obtained illegally or without proper permits. That being said there has been a strong push for gun control because of the rise of shootings involving a large group of people such as the Columbine massacre, Virginia Tech shooting and latest Aurora movie theater shooting involving people who have purchased firearms legally. Gun control laws in the United States have been established for many years but to maintain a civilized society with limited crime stronger control laws need to be enforced in which will help reduce crime in our country. Establishing stronger gun control laws will educate
Gun control is a very controversial topic that has has a huge impact on the United States of America. One side believes that if guns were taken away as a whole, the country would see significantly less gun related crimes and death, while the other opposing side thinks that taking away guns is not only against the Second Amendment but would lead to an increase in crime and death because the government would take guns away from people who are legally registered to own and conceal guns. The ongoing debate will continue until the foreseeable future but their are plenty of reasons why more gun laws should be made. Taking away guns is not the answer, learning how to deal with gun violence is the key.
Gun control is a very big issue in the United States today. Many people don't agree with the gun control laws that they have today. Gun control laws only take guns away from law-abiding citizens. Many people have their own reasons for owning a gun. Why would the government want to make it harder for people to own a gun? People that own guns are not very likely to be attacked by criminals. Owning a handgun is one of the best ways of protection. The second amendment states "the right to bear arms" does this grant everyone a right to own a gun? Gun control laws have not been proven to do anything for citizens. Gun control laws just make it harder for a good guy to own a gun. Gun control laws are not a good idea.
Gun control has been a long debate to determine if it’s better to have stricter access to firearms. America is one of the few countries that has gun rights embedded in their constitution. But what makes the US exceptional is that it has the right to keep and bear arms, other countries do not provide the right to have access to them, but rather, the government is allowed to regulate its use. The right to bear arms has also been the cause of growing violence and crime, at least according to anti-gun lobbyists. Citizens should be aware the dangers and harm that guns present to society. Controlling the sale of firearms can greatly decrease the number of violent crimes.
Guns laws in America are one of the most controversial topics today that are dividing many U.S. citizens. Many people are ignorant to what new gun laws will enforce and what statistical data shows about gun violence. Future Gun laws will be used to control guns in America, making it restricted to own and buy weapons. Although some people say that stricter gun laws will protect people more than concealed carry laws, the reality is that concealed carry laws allow individuals to better defend themselves and their families.
of sixty-two mass shootings done by Mother Jones, about forty-nine of the weapons were bought legally! Twelve of were obtained through illegal methods, and the last one was unknown (Follman). Whether mentally fit or not, loose gun control laws allow those untrustworthy to buy guns and possible commit heinous acts.
The only reason for our nation to enact gun control laws is to reduce violent crime. There is no other logical reason for gun control outside of reducing crime. If gun control proves to be ineffective in reducing crime rates then why have it? While researching this I found time after time where statistics have shown laws such as banning handguns to be completely ineffective in reducing crime rates and I also found where allowing the carry of these same weapons resulting in a reduction of crime rates. One of the major aspects that should be heavily considered by those wanting to take away the legal ownership of firearms in the U.S is that we would also be taking them away from the people who have weapons for their intended purpose. Washington DC had a law in place from 1976 through 2008 that made it illegal for residence to possess handguns and also required trigger locks on all other firearms rendering them useless. During this period of time murder rates in DC were seventy six
December 15, 1791, the day America’s Bill of Rights was ratified, was the day the initial infrastructure for our country’s basic rights were established. Since then, firearms have been a highly deliberated topic. Even today, the debate over whether we, as a country, should institute stricter gun laws continues to be an ongoing conversation throughout social media, the press, and within our governing bodies. But, since the approval of the Bill of Rights, gun laws have continued to be restricted in order to protect the lives of citizens who reside in America. The initial catalyst for more rigid gun laws was the horrific assassination attempt of Ronald Reagan, which also brought injury upon James Brady who, due to this incident, later became an advocate for gun laws. Ronald Reagan’s potential rendezvous with bloodshed brought about the initiation of Brady’s law as a safeguard to prevent another incident of this kind from besieging our country.
“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” The right of all Americans to bear arms is a right the Founding Fathers held to equal importance as the Constitution itself. Gun control laws directly violate this right and therefore should not even be under consideration. Even if that issue is overlooked, gun control advocates state that in order to reduce firearm related violence, gun control laws must be implemented to remove the violence caused by firearms. Although this may seem reasonable, the consequences of such laws are ironically counterproductive; they exacerbate the problem instead of fixing it. Besides the fact that the American
“The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people, or about 270,000,000 guns, which is the highest total and per capita number in the world," (Gun Control - ProCon.org). Since there are numerous people in the country who have guns, people need to learn about these weapons to decrease shootings and other tragedies. Creating gun laws that are more strict would not solve the problems, but create more crime. The gun control laws should be less restrictive because guns can protect innocent civilians from people who are mentally unstable, restrictive laws can create problems for hunters, and the gun laws give more power to the government than the people.
More gun control laws should not be enforced because; gun control laws, trying to ban “assault rifles” infringe upon the right to own a gun for hunting and sport and also, strict gun control laws do not work in the U.S.
While some people don't approve of gun control laws others disagree, saying that the laws keep people safe. An average of 10 people in each state are saved by gun control laws every week (factcheck.org). Did you know 3% of people are caught each year not following the laws of gun control. In a similar form there are violations of the laws were over 5% of people are making their own guns because they aren’t allowed to own a gun legally. Although with a variety of people making their own guns can cause almost ⅓ of the deaths each year. In conclusion to my topic, there should have gun control laws. study from 2005 to 2010 found that firearms were stolen in about 4 percent of the 2.4 million break ins involving ghost guns. Order to minimize the
Five women a day are killed in the United States by guns; in fact, there is a 500% increase that a woman is at risk of being a victim of gun violence if there is a gun present during a family conflict. If this does not state the obvious that this country needs more restrictions on gun control then I do not know what to tell you. For the people who keep firearms on hand everywhere they go, state that they need them for self-defense but guns are rarely used for self-defense purposes. The amount of suicides in the United States would decrease with more restrictions on gun control. As a matter of fact, when gun ownership went down in the United States, so did suicide rates. “American children under age 15 were nine times more likely to die of a
There are multiple reasons on why gun control is advocated. The Second Amendment is not a unrestricted right to own guns. More gun control laws would reduce gun deaths. Drum magazines and the like should be banned because they often turn murder into mass murder. Gun laws are needed to protect women from any forms of sexual or physical assault. Guns are rarely seen in self-defense. These laws would reduce the costs associated with gun violence. A majority of adults, including gun owners, advocate common sense gun control such as background checks, bans on assault weapons, and bans
