Gun violence has made quite an appearance on social media and major news outlets in America this year. When the Second Amendment was created it generated a permanent bond between citizens and gun. As a result of this many citizens take pride in owning a gun for mainly self-defense and recreational uses. However, this is a big issue due to all of the violence that has been occurring due to people exercising their “right to bear arm” and the loopholes in the nation’s gun laws. According to Gun Violence Archive, about 48 mass shooting incidents have occurred just in 2018. There has been at least 14 school shootings this year. Purchase of weapons has been so rapid, that there is no accurate account of fire arms in the society. The United States …show more content…
In order to stop innocent lives from being lost due to gun violence, guns should only be allowed to be purchased at a federal facility after a proper background check has been conducted by one of the federal agencies. Guns should not be allowed in our streets. In 1958 Japan put in place a gun law which says "no person shall possess a firearm or firearms or a sword or swords." According to Chris Weller an editor for Business Insider “Japanese people want to own a gun, they must attend an all-day class, pass a written test, and achieve at least 95% accuracy during a shooting-range test. Then they have to pass a mental-health evaluation, which takes place at a hospital, and pass a background check, in which the government digs into their criminal record and interviews friends and family. They can only buy shotguns and air rifles — no handguns — and every three years they must retake the class and initial exam.” If the United States adopts this method and learn from what Washington D.C, Hawaii, California, and Rhode Island have done to create strict gun laws in their states, there is a chance many lives will be
There have been a lot of shootings and there has to come a day where everything has to stop gun violence. Recently there has been a shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada. There was recently a mass shooting on October 1, 2017. At about 10:08 p.m. a country concert was active in Las Vegas. Everybody was enjoying their day and the music, they were having so much fun but little did they know what was about to happen. A shooter came out in front of 22,000 people from the 33rd floor. Killing at least 59 people and leaving 500 wounded. It was a very sad thing to hear because there was so many people who lost their life without even having any clue that they were going to die that day. So many people as well got seriously hurt during this incident that this one man caused. There was innocent people who shouldn’t have gone through what happened that day. Now there will be more security to make sure things like this don’t happen anymore or to at least help gun violence decrease. They listed this as an attack but it should be counted as a terrorist attack no matter the color of skin.
The need and want for gun control has been a big issue that has constantly been brought up do to the recent massacre in early October. On October 1st, 2017 at the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada a gunman named Stephen Paddock, opened fire on a crowd of concert goers at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival and ended up killing 58 people including himself and injuring over 500 more people. This has been the deadliest mass shooting In the United States in all of history. Due to the amount of damage that was done by one man and over 20 guns people are looking for gun control laws to be put into effect in hopes of preventing crimes like this from happening in the United States again.
Mass shootings have become a problem in the United States and the only way to decrease the number of incidents is to enforce stricter gun laws. In the recent years gun laws have come under fire for a variety of reasons that all stems back to the tolerance for high caliber and magazine weapons in our country. Assault rifles and other rapid-fire weapons have become all too easy to acquire in our nation and I believe the citizens of the United States have begun to realize this. Consumers have found loop holes around the newly implemented laws in the United States with third party acquisitions and gun shows that take place around the nation. With the recent laws that have been imposed, stricter background checks as well as an increase in the number of conceal and carry permits. I believe this is a great sign for our country with these laws, we are allowing citizens who have been trained and have checked all the boxes to carry weapons and ideally be in positions to defend us against attackers. For example, in San Antonio this last weekend a good Samaritan with a conceal and carry permit was able to wound an active shooter while he was fleeing the scene. I understand he did not prevent the incident, but I believe he was taking necessary actions to stop the shooter from harming other unarmed citizens. In this essay I will discuss what laws and precautions have been put in place to eliminate other incidents such as this one and whether they are adequate for this day and age.
Our schools have been deeply affected by mass shootings and weak gun violence laws. This country has had over 1000 mass shootings in the past two years and over 50 school shootings, killing thousands of innocent little children. Our government needs to put up strict gun laws that allow administrators in all schools to use necessary force against a school shooter or anyone who tries to harm students of such nature.
In the recent months, gun violence has become more common than ever. It seems that we cannot go a day without turning on the news and learning of a shooting. As a society, we are worried for our safety and question whether or not guns should be held by everyday non-government citizens. It seems that individuals turn to guns when they are not heard and are upset by other events.
Over the recents years, there have been many arguments about the issue of gun control at the state and national level. In California, there have been a variety of enacted laws within recent years to address the issue of growing gun violence around the country and ways to prevent terrorist attacks. California 's new enacted laws about gun control in the state range from abolishing certain features on weapons to restricting certain handguns or other firearms a person might buy. The legislative branch within California wrote bills including a ban on large capacity ammunition magazines and were approved by Governor Jerry Brown and the Legislature in response to a 2015 terrorist shooting in San Bernardino. The hysteria developed when
Violence is an unfortunate effect of the human condition, but that doesn’t mean that gun violence is acceptable; It also doesn’t give the government a right to infringe on our 2nd Amendment rights. In areas of the world where guns are banned from private ownership there is still gun violence. It may be lesser there than in those areas where private ownership is allowed, however the gap in gun violence is usually filled by homicide all the same. Gorelik, Shackelford, and Weekes-Sheckelford (2014) state the following:
Gun control is a controversial topic within American communities. Loopholes in current gun control laws give dangerous people access to firearms. Mass shootings have increased while government policies reduced requirements for background information regarding mental health and the ability to obtain high-capacity semiautomatic assault weapons. High-capacity weapons are being purchased legally and used to cause chaos across the nation. The Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) of 2015 stated: "it [was] unlawful for a person to import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess, in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, a semiautomatic assault weapon." However, after that statement, it listed series of vague exceptions that could be loopholes for people declared unstable. People who have shown violent tendencies should not be able to secure weapons that could bring harm to themselves or others.
Gun violence has become a great problem for our society in the recent years. Data from Every Town Reasearch has shown In their article Gun Violence by the Numbers “...that on an average day, 93 Americans are killed with guns...For every one person killed two are injured” Many will deny that gun violence is a problem, but it is. After more research I have found that over 62% of the deaths are suicide, and just over 1,642 people killed were accidental. There is something wrong here, and something needs to change soon. If so many of these deaths are accidental, and suicides there must be something wrong in our society.
With the protection from the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms as part of the first ten amendments contained in the Bill of Rights. According to a 2007 report by the Switzerland-based Small Arms Survey, the United States has about 35-50 percent of the world’s civilian-owned guns. It ranks number one in firearms per capita where it also has the highest homicide-by-firearm rate among the world’s most developed nations (Masters).
n July 18, 1984, eight-month Carlos Reyes and his mother, Jackie, was killed by an unemployed father. Along with Carlos, 21 innocent people were killed at the McDonald’s located in San Ysidro, California. Carlos is the youngest victim to gun violence till this date. His death is the result of the killer having easy access to a semiautomatic pistol and a shotgun (Berkowitz et al, 2017). Ryan Frazier, the 21-year old husband of Emily Frazier, shot himself with a semiautomatic gun he bought from a gas station in November 2008 after confronting his teenage nightmare for a lawsuit. He was molested by a priest and his first time using a gun was to end his own life, despite having a whole future ahead of him (Drexle, 2016). Carlos and Ryan are one of the many few that lose their lives from guns. They represent the stories of victims who have died after the trigger was pulled. With guns being readily available, everyone has the licenses to kill at any point in time, whether the pain is inflicted on others or themselves. Imagine if these were stories of your own family members or friends. According to our Founding Fathers, our second amendment should not be infringed and that people have the rights to keep and bear arms. However, because the United States is the number one country with mass shootings and suicide is the number one cause of gun deaths, it is necessary for our second amendment to be infringed and regulated in order to stop more people from losing their lives.

Gun violence in America has clearly made its presence in the past decade. Mass shooting such as Sandy Hook Elementary, Las Vegas, and Orlando have shaken the United States and left Americans in despair and disgust. The ongoing debate over gun control in the States has always been a topic of discussion, but with these tragedies occurring so often, obviously something needs to be done. Although some may believe that enforcing stricter gun laws will substantially prevent violence in the United States, it is paramount that all eligible Americans have access to a handgun in order to protect themselves and others as well as to prevent crime from ever beginning.
In the United States, gun control is a sensitive topic. Everyone in the U.S. has the right to own firearms under the second amendment but when it comes to the safety of all citizens in the U.S. the world begins to try and find a solution. According to the CDC, there is an average of ninety-three people killed each day in the United States by guns (Gun 1). The gun homicide rate in the United States is more than twenty-five times the average rate than in countries that have a similar economy to the U.S. (Gun 4). The United States also has a law which requires all gun owners to have a background check but there are ways around it which have been the reason for several of the recent shootings in the U.S. (Gun 5).
Did you know that 33 people are killed with guns every day in America? Do you know what it's like to die, to never see your loved once, to never do things you always wanted to do. Well that's probably how you feel as you lay in the hospital or on the ground, between life and death. You’ve likely heard it from any number of sources. Perhaps it was from a presidential candidate, a lawmaker, your libertarian brother-in-law, or your Facebook frenemy. Whatever the source, you likely have been told that regulating guns in virtually any way violates the Second Amendment. But that's not all. Do to people owing lots of guns, suicides rates have risen to a big percentage. Some might say that they need guns to protect their family's. But bad people can use that as an advantage. I think guns should be either banned or be put in more control.
