Illegal Immigration Our country was built on immigration. It all started with the pilgrims wanting to have free religion. Without immigration, our country would not be the way it is today. It also brought new culture, new religions, and new language. The topic on illegal immigration interested me because a couple of my family members were illegal and they had went through many complications because of that. Then also when Trump talks about building a wall to keep out illegal immigrants is very irrelevant. There are illegal immigrants coming from all over the world, not just Mexico. I believe anyone should be allowed to enter our country legally, yet take our precautions. One of the many reasons why immigrants come to America is to find a better job, to have a better life for themselves and their family. Now the main question we should be asking is, should illegal immigrants be allowed to stay in the United States? To start off, I would like to state the basics of illegal immigrants. I used an online article called “The Birth of ‘Illegal’ Immigrants.” Not until the 19th century there was no such thing as “illegal” and “legal” and that is only because before you can immigrate somewhere legally, you would have to break a law (Little 1). Around mid- to late-19th century people from southern and eastern Europe as well as China were coming to America (Little 1). Americans resented the presence of Chinese Italians, and more Catholics. There was never a federal law of who could enter and who could not until the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 (Little 1). Many of the Chinese people worked in gold mining, agriculture, factories, and railroads especially in the West Coast (Little 1). Although these immigrants made up .002 percent of the U.S., the Americans wanted them out (Little 1). What I do not get is how the American people could think like that. They had the (Chinese) poor, mentally ill, and the people who committed crime be banned from entering America.
Now this will be the part two of the basics of illegal immigration. I used a 2016 article called “The Truth About America’s Illegal Immigrants.” Now there are 11 million illegal immigrants in America which makes up 3.5 percent of the total
Illegal immigration has become more of an important issue in the United States since Donald Trump’s campaign for president in 2016. Immigration can be known as the act of people crossing national borders to live permanently in other countries. It becomes illegal when they cross those borders without the legal right to be in those countries. The U.S. has been an immigrant country since the pilgrims in the 1600s and has ever since, been diverse. Most of the immigrants are Latinos that come from Central America, but they also come from all over the world. The current path to legal citizenship is flawed and needs to be reformed to allow rights to be upheld, equal and fair treatment of all applicants, and to facilitate the process altogether.
The immigration debate in this country has grown stronger over the past few years. There are valid reasons for being in favor of allowing immigrants to enter this country. However, there are also legitimate concerns from those who oppose immigration to this country. I believe that by allowing immigrants to enter the country, it’s diversity increases and culture expands. It gives struggling people from all over the world an opportunity to a better life. This country was built by immigrants who sought opportunity, political & religious freedom, etc. Some of the most intelligent and ambitious individuals, who are unsatisfied with their own countries, bring their skills to America.
Currently, the number of illegal immigrants in the United States stands at an estimated 12 million and counting. There are immigrants who actually come to this country legally via visa or green card, but become illegal by over-staying their visas or green cards. The other type of illegal immigrant is an individual who simply illegally crosses the border and enters the country without contacting the United States’ government in any way.
Immigration has been a part of the United States history since its birth. America is a country that was found and built by immigrants. In the beginning everybody was an immigrant. There were people from all over the globe coming to America with the hope for a better life—which still holds true today. There are countless reasons that people are wanting to come to America today. Some immigrants are fleeing radical governments, while others are escaping countries that are torn with civil war. On the down side, America is not a newly discovered land with wide open land for the taking anymore. She simply cannot accommodate every individual who wishes to live here. Regulating who, when, and the quantity of those who are coming to America is extremely important. Illegal immigration has been a problem in America for decades, and there have been numerous attempts in controlling it.
Illegal immigration has been a major problem for the United States for a long period of time. Illegal immigrants come from all over the world; they come from the Mexico borders, the Pacific Ocean, and through many other ways that they seem to find. Numerous immigrants have came through the borders with fake birth certificates, or through a temporary visa and they just end up staying in the U.S illegally. Most of American’s are very opinionative about illegal immigration and how it can hurt the country, which they have every right to feel that way. U.S population has been growing rapidly for the last decade or so, the population has grew by 4% according to the article “The Progressive Case for Reducing Immigration” by Philip Cafaro. A growing population can cause a good outcome or it can have a bad outcome to the U.S. It has been said that immigrants take jobs, but they can also create jobs. The negative aspects are that many American’s feel threatened by immigrants due to the fact of employment. Immigrants do not come to the U.S to intentionally take jobs; most of them are just trying to provide for their families just like every other American. As most people call the United States the “melting pot” because of how diverse the United State is, that is what makes this country extraordinary. There is every type of ethnicity that comes from different backgrounds. Most people who are from the United States or who want to come only want one thing, and that is the “American
The student organization, CHANGE, hosted a rally on Thursday to educate the public and support the undocumented community here at Central Connecticut State University and around the United States.
“Our attitude towards immigration reflects our faith in the American ideal. We have always believed it possible for men and women who start at the bottom to rise as far as the talent and energy allow. Neither race nor place of birth should affect their chances.” A former president said this quote, Robert F. Kennedy. There have obviously been changes in the way our country runs since he has been in the position. The changes for immigrants throughout the years have only become more difficult for anyone to enter the US. We have even decided to seal the border of the US and Mexico. Our country has different sides of the topic of immigrants. Immigrants should only be allowed into the US if done the correct way. Many organizations or people
Immigration has been an existing occurrence ever since the first of humans and persisted as land continued being discovered. There has always been major controversy over this subject, both public and political, especially in the country of America. Immigration laws and policies are unfair because many of these people are not what citizens depict them as. When people think of immigrants their thoughts automatically connect to Mexicans, field workers, and crossing the U.S./Mexico border. What many Americans forget is that the United States was founded off of immigration, everything from America’s discovery by Europeans, to African slavery, and has followed up to current day cultural diversity. Illegal immigration should not be a real concept because most of the accusations that are connected to immigrants are not true and are based solely on stereotypes and there are further issues associated with this process of deportation than the ones that initially appear.
Former president Obama once said, “My fellow Americans, we are and always will be a nation of immigrants. We were strangers once, too” (“Barack Obama”). This idea of immigration has caused a lot of controversy in the past year. Since Donald Trump became president in 2016, he has begun talk of phasing out DACA- a program which currently allows over 790,000 undocumented immigrants to live safely in America. The removal of DACA is immoral and should not be allowed because it is legally unnecessary, is going to wreak havoc on the lives of those protected by the program, and will cause a strain on the economic well-being of America.
The question is: should illegal immigrants be allowed to reside in the United States? Overall, illegal immigrants are a benefit to our country and should work towards citizenship in order to live here.
Immigrants founded the United States of America and ever since then there have been people from all over the world coming to America for a chance at a better life for themselves and their families. Immigrants from all over the world come, some legally and some illegally. A majority of these immigrants come from southern-border country Mexico. Everyday, the United States has hundreds of illegal immigrants come into the country. They cross over from the Rio Grande into Texas; they cross over into Arizona, New Mexico, and California. With all of the problems that the United States is facing from illegal immigration, maybe it is time that the American government should have a stronger form of border
Sanctuary cities. The burden of many politicians and the home of many immigrants. California being one of these states that have several cities that are sanctuary including Oakland where a recently controversy brewed up. In late February, the Democratic mayor of Oakland, Libby Schaff tipped off the community of illegal immigrants through a Tweet that helped them escape from the Immigration and Customs Enforcements (ICE). The tweet said the following "I know that Oakland is a city of law-abiding immigrants and families who deserve to live free from the constant threat of arrest and deportation. I believe it is my duty and moral obligation as mayor to give those families fair warning when that threat appears imminent.” ICE’s intended number of captured immigrants was roughly around a 1,000 however, they only manage to capture roughly 200 of the illegal immigrants from Oakland.
Accepting illegal immigrants gives the opportunity for America to be seen as a good country. America will be seen as a helpful and open place to everyone. Accepting Mexicans will make the other countries see the USA as a country that cares for others and is willing to help them. A country that is willing to help immigrants fulfill their American dream. Illegal immigration has been a controversial issue in the U.S. Majorly race group affected by immigration are Mexicans. Mexicans are hard workers that come in search for a better life and are willing to do anything. They increase diversity and expand their culture in America.
Immigrants come to this country for a variety of reasons. Some of these reasons are for religious freedom, to be close to their families, for a better future, employment opportunities, education and in hopes of accomplishing the American Dream. Over the course of years, during each presidential election one of the main issues on every candidates table is immigration and what policies can the government pass to regulate it.
Language plays an important role in today's world. Most importantly, the usuage of that word for particular person. Some languages/words are insulting to some people whereas normal for others. Therefore, our languages do not target all but only certain group indirectly. America has the big problem with illegal immigrants and especially with the use of the word "illegal". I am a lawful immigrant, but I understand the pain of being an illegal immigrant because all immigrants whether it is lawful or unlawful have to struggle to build their lives in the USA.
