People around the world are consuming more sugar than ever. Take one walk around your favourite grocery store, and its easy to see why. There are entire aisles dedicated to unhealthy and calorie laden “junk food”, as well as cans and bottles in so many flavours and colours of overly sweetened sugary sodas. Soda is cheap, and it tastes delicious, so of course it’s a popular beverage among all age groups. Unfortunately, as many people are aware, this constant consumption of sugar is one of the leading factors in many healthcare epidemics. Obesity is a continually rising problem, and is costing billions in healthcare dollars around the globe. Quite a few countries, including Mexico, Norway, and France (Oliver, 2017) have introduced what they believe to be a solution to this problem. They have placed an additional sales tax on sugar sweetened beverages, including soda drinks, fruit juices, and energy drinks. In a recent article from The Globe and Mail, author Jamie Oliver makes a very convincing argument in favor of the tax being introduced in Canada. I fully agree, and think that this is a wonderful idea. If sugar-related illness is costing the Canadian government so much money in healthcare, it should be up to those consumers to help pay for it.
The media portrays things in a way which leads readers to believe what they, the newspaper or author, want them to believe. The intention behind writing an article is never as simple as just providing information. Almost every news

As a nation, Americans revel in the consumption of junk food. These extremely unhealthy foods are often present during many various occasions, such as sports events, movies, and parties. When a person craves a quick snack, junk food is the ideal solution. However, beyond the satisfying taste of foods such as Doritos and potato chips lies a very serious problem. These foods can lead to physical disrepair, sickness, and even death. Yet many Americans remain oblivious to this nationwide issue and allow it to remain unaddressed. The crisis of junk food in America needs to be resolved immediately. To go more in depth, it is imperative that the nation resolves this issue relatively soon, primarily because the excessive consumption of
“More than one in three adults in America is considered obese” (Katz). Having a junk food tax will most definitely help lower this statistic. While characterized as a negative burden, taxes are easily one of the most important aspects in everyday life. Taxing junk foods will allow many positives such as: health benefits, better uses with the money, and knowledge for a healthy lifestyle.
You briskly run in the front door with your sweet treat that you took home from the school cafeteria, assuming that it might be a good day to hop on the scale. You hadn’t weighed yourself for approximately quite a few years. You wait for the numbers to pop up, ready to see that great weight, but in what seemed like two seconds, your eyes almost popped out of your head. As time goes on, kids find it less and less necessary to eat healthily. They find that eating junk food is cheaper, faster, and overall, easier. This prevents them from comprehending the consequences of the intake of these non-benefiting foods. In fact, some schools insist on not providing healthy food, and this causes an influence on children that produce an outcome of childhood
As a pregnant woman, you are alarmed with the well-being and safety of your kid. As such, foods to avoid during pregnancy are important to be followed since whatever you eat affects you, your health, your growing fetus and his health. So, what are some of the foodstuffs to be avoided during pregnancy?
Healthy food should be accessible to everyone. If healthy food isn’t available for everyone all it’s going to do is cause more and more health problems. If we made healthy organic food the same price as cheap unhealthy food there would be a big difference in the health of our country. It’s completely unfair to make healthy food too expensive for other people to buy, which causes them to buy cheap unhealthy food, like off a dollar menu at a fast food restaurant. This issue needs to be put to an end.
Over the decades, the Americans Federal Government has invested and launched a program in 1964 as a public safety net, it has turned out to be the a poor investment that wasted trillion of dollars. The Investment earned the most funds is the Health care plan that cover for most of the American by the Federal Government. It ranges around 147 billion dollars to nearly 210 billion dollars per year. Plus, the Department of the of Agriculture's center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion calculates the cost of study on Obesity is 13 million dollars more, yet the Health -related obesity costs are projected to reach $344 billion. However, the problem has not yet been solved; as the result, the obese children has tripled. Recently, in the discussion of feeding kids nationwide, one controversial issue has been whether the Government needed to spend extra money and fund to change the school lunch system or just keep the system remaining the same.
Food wasting, hunger, climate change, all of these contribute to the need to understand the preposterous point of throwing away food when we believe it is not needed, when there is so many ways “extra” food can help other cities and even countries with their hunger issue. We have reached to believe it is simply not our problem most of the time and just pushing the subject under the rug, if we do not address the topic of world hunger more seriously, I feel as though we are contributing to the death count and the abomination that food wasting causes on our planet and to our fellow people. That is what Food foolish by John M. Mandyck and Eric B. Schultz is trying to make any reader understand. Answer me this, you do not say no to your child
When something is detrimental to our health, we strive to avoid it whenever possible to extend our lives. We know that exposure to known cancer causing agents such as asbestos and lead paint is harmful; therefore, we do not expose ourselves to the risk and we certainly do not eat it. This seems simple; however, what do we do when that harmful vice is food? We cannot stop eating; instead, we must closely examine what we are putting into our bodies. When faced with the choice of a burger or grilled vegetables, most would choose the burger. These choices have lead us down a path littered with food related diseases, illnesses and rising healthcare costs. The state of Americans health is declining due to increasing obesity, diabetes and
In this great nation of the United States of America, where we are blessed to have an abundance of places to nourish ourselves and eat whatever, whenever, and how much we want? But have we now evolved with our eating habits to where it can harm us, more than help us to be healthy? Or maybe, “nourish” is the wrong word to use. According to the dictionary the definition to the word “nourish”, is food or other substance necessary for growth, health, and good condition. It seems like “gluttony” (overeating) is the proper word that should be used to describe about 84% of the population in the United States. “A large percentage of Americans should be on a diet. It has been found that many of us lean heavily on convenience food(s)”. (Tatiana Morales), CBS News, 2005 “Numerous studies have proven that personal food choices, lack of exercise, and genetic disposition all play a role in a person’s weight; however, there are other elements that influence our weight. In particular, food producers that supply the high calorie, minimally nutritious, and highly processed foods that dominate our market must be examined”. (Janelle R. Stanish) Inquiries Journal 2014
Every year the average American’s health declines. This is a major problem for the sake of the future of our country and future generations. Due to the great range and ease of purchasing inexpensive and delicious fast and junk foods, the health of Americans declines and issues of obesity and many other poor health related-diseases to our health such as diabetes rises. Analyzing data from a survey conducted at Rosemead High School along with the following articles “Bad Food? Tax it, and Subsidize Vegetables” by Mark Bittman, “Attacking the Obesity Epidemic by First Figuring Out Its Cause” by Jane E. Brody, “No Lunch Left Behind” by Alice Waters & Katrina Heron, and “The Pleasures of Eating” by Wendell Berry. All four articles make it clear that as a country, we must put a great effort to spread awareness about the dangers of what fast and junk foods do to our health. Although not every American’s health is at stake, the majority are at risk, so I believe it should be a priority for all Americans to eat healthier; therefore, our government, school administration, teachers, parents, and children should improve their eating habits by avoiding fast and junk foods.
In the past 100 years of society, our increasingly busy lives have led to less time available to cook meals at home with healthy ingredients. Fast food restaurants intend to capitalize on this rising crisis, but, in order for fast food companies like McDonald’s, Wendy’s, etc. to make their food so quickly, they offer simple meal choices with cheap ingredients, making the food high in fat and sugar. The most prominent of these meals is the cheeseburger, consisting of bread, a meat patty, cheese, and varying other things like pickles or onions. Things like the meat and cheese come from cows, and this creates problems, such as methane emissions. Since so many people are buying fast food, fast food companies raise more cattle to satisfy the demand, but these cows need food to eat as well. Those crops, grown specifically to be fed to cattle, take up the majority of agricultural space in the United States, and could be replaced with better, healthier options. If people were to stop eating fast food, it would benefit them, as well as benefit the planet.
In the current world fast food is a staple in all countries all over the world. Restaurants that make this obesogenic food are everywhere, and that is only where the problem originates. Fast food is known to be no good for the human body, but people still continue to eat it while knowing the consequences. It seems as though the teenagers of today have no chance. The measures proposed by many experts and parents are too drastic for teens to accomplish, and there seems to be no education that is accessible to teens. The government needs to provide education through media that is targeted towards the teen generation such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and also provide programs or measures that are able to be completed without the need for drastic action.
The world seems to become a more busy place every day, and finding the time to cook/shop for/eat healthy seems to become more and more difficult. The importance of a healthy diet, however, can not be overstated; thus, when one looks at the effects of a diet rich in processed or convenience foods, versus foods that are more wholesome, the effects are clear.
Ever walked into any cafeteria and seen fried chicken, french fries, burgers and all sorts of fast foods? Where you ever tempted to buy these type of foods? This temptation happens to anyone, even children. Did you think what these types of foods can do to the health of a person, especially younger children. We already have fast foods being served in schools. There are things we can do to change that. The government should make stricter laws regulating the food that is served in schools because most schools serve unhealthy foods. It will help decrease child obesity. They can start at a young age and get a better understanding of what they are eating.
