The second world war was the bloodiest war in the history of mankind. Throughout the war, different military tactics were used. One of the most well-known tactics during this time is the use of the atomic bomb. Dubbed the A-bomb, the United States first used to atomic weapon against Japan. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were two of the more well known bombings initiated by the U.S. in Japan. The issue of the atomic bomb is one of the most controversial in history. Many believe that Japan deserved to be bombed since they bombed Pearl Harbor. Others believed there were other ways to handle the issue and that the bombings had gone against moral values. The atomic bomb was first introduced in the United States. The creation of the atomic bomb, also known as the Manhattan Project, was a response from President Franklin D. Roosevelt after scientist Albert Einstein informed him about the possibility of the bomb. Einstein asserts that “it may become possible to set up nuclear reactions in a large mass of uranium.” He informs Roosevelt that scientists are currently working with the reactions and that there is a possibility of mass nuclear weapon using uranium. He also talks about how these weapons could potentially be extremely destructive. He claims that “a single bomb of this type… exploded in a port, might very well destroy the whole port together.” Einstein is trying to show just how powerful the A-bomb can be.
