Unfocused College Student College students are not focused enough when it comes to academics. A majority of college students are more serious-minded when it comes to co-curricular activities, and hanging out with their friends having a good time. If people were to say that college students that are not serious about their academics are irresponsible and should be drop from the college, most college students would consider that to be unfair and judging. Academics are very important because of the impact that it leads to in the future. Today’s college students are not focused when it comes to the importance of academic success because of co-curricular activities and socializing with their friends/colleagues. The most common co-curricular activities that most college students participate in are college parties. College parties usually last until morning, meaning less time of sleep and studying. Not getting a serving of at least 7 hours of sleep affects the students from learning the materials/class work that they need for the day or any day. While attending college parties, there are activities or behaviors that involves

Procrastinating is the bane of most college students, if not all. Statements like “I’ll do it later” or “It’s not due until Monday”, define the poor choice of doing assignments at the last minute. Procrastinating leads up to a constant and looming pressure that builds up and up until the night before, cramming for ideas, which happens all night long, to finish. What are the results of procrastinating? The most accurate answer would be seldom a student’s best work; not performing one’s best work most likely means, the grades would come out the same (awful). Was it really worth it? Not a chance. Procrastinating can lead to distractions blocking the main focus of academic
For incoming freshman who are attending to Oakland Unity, there are some things you need to know. Incoming freshmen need to be prepared for school by bringing folders and especially pencils. It's important for freshmen to bring materials school because teachers will not provide them. Since eighth grade is the last year for middle school, you would usually hang out with friends you've known for a long time. Unfortunately, when transferring to high school, friends will (or eventually) depart from you. So I recommend for incoming freshmen to try to make some new friends. Middle school grades and work were easy to achieve and weren't important back then, but now you're transferring into high school. High school is very hard and
A student's job is not done after the end of the day. There is always homework that still needs done or checked, editing a paper, studying for the test that is coming up next week, doing their own notes for chapters they read, reading textbooks, and trying to have a social life. They are still trying maintain good grades as best as they can. During all this pressure for freshman year college students tend to forget their roles in the classroom, responsibilities, and having mental and physical impediments for their learning. Students have the constant worries and fears but it still bad when getting yelled at by their parents, teachers, and their school for lack of engagement in the classroom. By helping the freshman year college students, it
Higher education is the greatest tool that can benefit a society, granted that universities can bring a sense of personal accomplishment and general knowledge. It is the Federal government's job to reflect on other educational systems, for instance Germany's higher education, and create an intuition that profits the public good and establishes a structured strategy that ensures college students are economically viable. For example, the University of California exploded when the Board of Regents approved a “32 percent tuition increases for the 2010 academic year, a vote that would raise the UC tuition to over $10,000 a year” (Selingo). Higher education should not be a risky future investment; it should be designed to help the general public and now obtaining a four-year diploma has become an essential way a person displays their preparedness for high demanding jobs. In addition, diplomas have become less available to the public due to the economic downturn, defunding of the public education systems, and increasing tuition rates. It is time to create a strategy that assists the public education system and that serves the common well-being. Therefore, it is the federal government's duty to reflect on Germany's educational methods that favor the public good and promote a change in the broken institutions by allowing free online universities and community colleges to offer four-year degrees.
It had been a long morning. The patient had been checked in, educated on the surgical procedure, with an IV placed in her arm. At 14, she had been worrying about this upcoming surgery for days. As she laid on the hospital bed, waiting to go into the OR, she was incredibly nervous. After she was wheeled into the OR, there were to people who introduced themselves: a nurse anesthetist and their technician. They placed the mask filled with anesthesia on her face, sensing how unsure the patient felt. As the laughing gas began to make the patient giggle, the CRNA turned to the tech and said, “She’s laughing at your face!” The patient started laughing for real and began to calm down- a sense of trust had been created between the patient and the
One thing that plagues college students and disrupts the balance of college life everywhere is the dreaded act of procrastination, but with a strict academic work regimen students can overcome this detrimental grade wrecking behavior, and ultimately restore the balance of productive academics that will have a positive impact on their grades and their stress levels.
Learn the benefits of what not procrastinating can do for you. If you stop procrastinating, you can have a manageable schedule that will work with your life style. Use time management to your advantage by planning out each assignment so that you may not have to worry about it in the later future. Most importantly if you can help yourself by stopping the long term habit of procrastination your grades could improve, your life will become less stress full and your friends and family will thank
An estimated 90% of college students procrastinate, and 25% of these students are chronic procrastinators, and lots of them drop out of college (Knaus, 2010). Majority of college students claim to be procrastinators which in the end hurts them. Some Psychologists even think that procrastination is a learned behavior (Marano, 2010). This learned behavior could come from other students that surround you or it could come from parents who put off taxes and paying bills, which in turn shows the child that it is okay to push things off to the
Did you know that 47 percent of high school drop outs dropped out because they were bored with school and only 35 percent of drop outs quit high school because they were failing? When people think of students dropping out, they automatically think that it is because those high school students were failing, not being bored. In fact, 70 percent of high school dropouts say that they would have passed high school if they tried (Azzam). So the question is: why not try? By not completing high school you are setting yourself up to fail and be disappointed for the rest of your life. However, the main debate about dropping out of high school has to deal with the kids having other obligations that interfere with high school. Quoted by Amy Azzam in Why Students Drop Out, “Many students gave personal reasons for leaving school, which included the need to get a job, parenthood, or having to care for family members.” Although there are many excuses on why you should drop out of high school, everyone should get to experience the awesome opportunity high school provides. You should stay in high school because your future will be brighter, you have the opportunity to make awesome memories, and high school can affect how you live the rest of your life.
Sometimes procrastination can get you killed, this becomes true when you put off your medical condition or you put off having that surgery you need just because you don't want to take the time to do so. We as human beings tend to stray away from the thing we do not enjoy doing, that explains why I did not want to do my junior paper because writing isn't my most favorite thing to do. I honestly do not believe there is anything good that could come from procrastination, because the time you spent procrastinating cannot be given back to you it is considered wasted time. Also being a procrastinator can affect your reputation, nobody ever wants to be known as the person who cannot keep their word. So take a word from the wise procrastination is not
Learning about procrastination can help those students to take the fist step, accept they procrastinate and take action right away toward getting rid of this bad habit. This way those students procrastinate would stress less, get better grades and enjoy more the college experience.
College is the time where our students can discover their passions and strengths. It gives our students the opportunity to get involved and focus on much more than just their school work. Don’t get me wrong, school work is very important, however they
By definition, the act of procrastinating is to postpone an event until a later time. We as humans have all delayed something in our lives, either related to school, work, or social activities. Although anything in life has the potential to be postponed or put off until the last-minute, procrastination is more commonly seen in schools and colleges among students. There are several reasons why students put off assignments, but, the main reason is that they do not take pleasure in doing their homework. Even though some students are unsuccessful in their dawdling, many students are often successful and benefit from saving coursework until the “last minute”. Taking a look at this process, we can see that procrastinating may actually save time and energy.
In a meta-analytic and theoretical review of procrastination, it was estimated that between 80-95% of undergraduates experience problematic academic procrastination, with up to 30% experiencing severe procrastination (Steel, 2007). Considering the effect of procrastination on the general, work and academic
When I was a senior in high school, I had an ogre for an English teacher. Mr. Bergan was one of the toughest teachers I ever had. The class was College Prepatory writing, and the goal was that, by the time we were finished, we should be able to write concise, well organized papers that would be acceptable to college level professors. Every day we would write papers, and Mr. Bergan closely read every one of them. Then he would hand them back with the details of any problems, and we would have to fix them. No one got an "A" from Bergan on their first hand in. He demanded perfection: any extra fluff had to be trimmed from the paper; any paper that did not end where it started had to be re-written so it did; if the
Johnny is a fifth grade student who is almost ready to graduate and move on to the sixth grade. Johnny however, can not multiply or divide. He cannot spell or read. Johnny fell behind in the third grade. His teacher overlooked his failure and promoted him so that he would not be held up socially. Johnny's fourth grade teacher promoted him to fifth grade hoping that he would catch up with his classmates. Johnny is now about to enter the sixth grade with the educational skills of a second grader.
