Every day we are reminded that our health is the foundation upon which our quality of life depends. Cut back on red meat, reduce trans fats, limit your meat intake and focus on the quality of the foods you eat; those are just a few of the ways we are being told to make changes to our diet in order to maintain or improve our health. More recently we are encouraged to incorporate different things in our lifestyles in order to optimize our health. One of those changes is the encouragement of adopting a vegan lifestyle. Defined as removing all animal products from our diets, veganism encourages us to eat healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, and grains. While it seems like a really good option, becoming a vegan does pose some challenges. Living in North America is in an of itself a limit to the success of becoming and maintaining a vegan lifestyle as most fruits and vegetables are imported from other countries due to the seasonal variations of the area. Not only is it limiting the types of foods required to maintain a healthy vegan lifestyle, it can be expensive as well, and can result in possible health issues due to lack of vitamins and nutrients. In North America, the seasonal changes make producing fresh fruits and vegetables difficult especially during the winter months therefore as a vegan, you’d most likely be required to adjust the foods you eat. While not a deterrent to the lifestyle, the adjustment of ingredients can be seen as cumbersome and discouraging. Though
I have adopted veganism into my lifestyle because I don’t support the ethics behind the meat, dairy, and egg industries. Whilst already vegetarian for a year, I unintentionally came across a video about veganism that introduced new and persuasive facts that I had no prior knowledge about; I knew immediately that this lifestyle was for me. Unlike vegetarianism, veganism is a lifestyle and what that means is no leather, no feathers, no products that have been tested on animals, no products including animal ingredients, etc.. Those wanting to become vegan should take it slow because then they can discover new recipes and replacements, and it doesn’t seem so overwhelming. The main thing to focus on is trying your best.

The vegan diet is more a lifestyle choice and a philosophy than just a diet. The vegan life is the best way to live because it’s healthier, helps the environment, and is kinder to animals.

By not consuming red meat, this allows for the digestive pathway to work more efficiently because it takes about three days to fully digest any red meat. Not consuming red meat also lowers your cholesterol, preventing gallstones, plaque buildup in arteries, and heart attacks. As for not consuming milk, the top three countries on the International Milk Genomics Consortium milk consuming list (Finland, Netherlands, and Sweden) are also the top three countries with the weakest bone structure. This appears quite deceiving given that children drink milk so they can develop a strong bone structure. It is also proven that almond milk has 50% more calcium than regular cow 's milk. Given this information, milk does not determine the strength of a person 's bones. Not consuming red meat will also lead a person to a better future with less bills to pay and no health risk.
