Thank you for awarding me the Lucia Spooner Trust Fund scholarship. I need scholarships to attend UW- Superior and this scholarship helps out a lot. Without it I definitely wouldn’t have enough to attend college. My family can’t help me as I have had two not so responsible older siblings sifin most of my parents willingness to help and money. College is expensive, dauntingly so, I often wish that I was lucky enough to be born in a country where college is affordable or even mostly paid by the government, but alsa I was born here and I must make the most of it. America has many great opportunities for biologists, my intended field, and college will be a big part of my life for at least the next four years. People in my field often don’t stop
I deserve this scholarship because through my education I have discovered who I am. Years pushing myself to achieve perfection on assessments have proven my ambition. I’m driven to succeed in every aspect of my life. For example, I’ve maintained a weighted average above 100 for all of middle school and high school as of now. Additionally, I scored 100% on the NYS Living Environment Regents Exam. Although I’m a girl with drive and determination, I’m also compassionate. I adore animals, and cannot stand by as humans decimate their natural habitats and animal population numbers plummet. I learned much about the worsening conditions of our natural environments in my Earth Science class this year and I’ve become an avid proponent of animal population
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR GENEROUS SCHOLARSHIP, I am now one-step closer to achieve of my goal.
I was thrilled to find out about this scholarship and want to thank you personally for giving students like me the opportunity for further financial assistance in college. I appreciate your contribution to the education of my generation, the future leaders of the world.
Following my undergraduate degree, I plan on attending medical school and specializing in pathology to become a forensic pathologist for the FBI. Another option I am currently considering is minoring in Animal Science and pursuing a graduate degree in Zoology and Primatology. Since I am an out-of-state student with three brothers who have graduated or plan on attending college, the looming idea of the mass amounts of student loans I may accumulate is terrifying, but I am very grateful to be where I am today. I felt such a great catharsis upon receiving my current four-year scholarship to UTK as it meant all of the work my parents and I put in was finally going to pay off because not only was I going to college, I was going to my dream school with the best Anthropology department in the country. Any extra assistance available I vowed I would do anything it takes to get the degree and profession I loved, from interning at the FAC and an upcoming field-site research opportunity over spring break to scholarships because the chance to study where we came from evolutionarily to where we may go is too amazing to pass
This year there has been plenty of commotion with regards to lower tuition. At the start of the year President Barack Obama proposed a bill that would make the first two years of community college free. However, it has a high risk of dying in congress since it would cost too much to fund it. Also, running presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, unveiled a bill that would make four year colleges tuition free. It may sound nice, but it requires several cuts and it will cost much more to fund than President Obama’s bill. The plan that I will be proposing was originally thought of by Jay Rosenstein, a student from the University of Illinois. The plan that I am proposing will be based of the plan from Rosentein. University Presidents should consider the Lower Tuition Now Project because it could potentially be the gateway
Thank you for awarding the Levine Scholarship to me. This $4,000 scholarship means so much. It is enough to help cover the cost of my supplies for this semester and next.
I am extremely grateful for you granting me with the John and Louise Steiger Student Foundation Scholarship! This scholarship was nothing less than an answer to my prayers. The last couple of years here at Oklahoma Baptist University I have been struggling with providing financially. Every semester I had to constantly pray and seek The Lord to make sure that He wanted me to continue my education here. While being here at Oklahoma Baptist University I have grown so much not only academically, but also spiritually. I have learned that my provider is not my job, that my provider is not my grades, my parents, or even a scholarship. The true provider is The Lord and if we lean into full Him, He will gives us all that we need according to His plans.
Even though a majority of high school graduates enroll in college, 34 percent of students do not enroll in college. The statistic of high school graduates enrolled in college reached a record high of 70.1 percent in 2009; however, this percentage descends each year (Norris). There has been many varying causes that have influenced the decline, but the number one reason seems to be the cost of higher education. Many people believe education should remain costly; in fact, the cost of college continues to rise. Although there are many college scholarship options, the price tag on a degree intimidates most students. If college tuition was eliminated, current and future generations would have better access to education. “Free college has succeeded in Germany, Brazil, Finland, Sweden, Slovenia, and Norway. Our nation's student loan debt has exceeded $1.2 trillion, a debt that well surpasses credit card and mortgage debt (“Why College Tuition”). Free college would, as a result, allow more students to continue their education through college and have a better chance for a successful future.
I told myself when applying to college I wouldn’t write about sports. I thought to myself, ‘The amount of people that must write about sports, that topic must be tiring to read. No one is going to want to hear another sob story about an injury or how greatly a sport had impacted their lives because they were a decent athlete.’ So, I told myself I would not be the one to fit into this category. I will not have a boring essay so that whoever is reading this will think I am interesting and accept me into their school.
The words “free college tuition” spark interest in any college student with accumulating debt. In fact, this topic is so incredibly supported that Bernie Sanders implemented it as a core interest in his 2016 campaign. Once Hillary Clinton became the Democratic nominee, she decided to take it on herself with an extensive plan that guaranteed students free tuition. Unsurprisingly, free tuition resonates extremely well within the student demographic. To forty million Americans, free tuition eliminates the largest problem for students: debt (Hess, 2017). However, free college tuition generates the inverse of what these low-income and middle-income students believe. In fact, free college cripples them from multiple perspectives; students will end up spending more financially, will be less likely to graduate with a degree, and will be subjected to more inequality and less exposure.
College is a very rewarding life choice for many people in the United States. It allows young adults to transition into adulthood with essential skills and knowledge to prosper in the work force. Giving the equal opportunity of secondary education to all Americans would be the most ideal situation. There would be an obvious increase of people educated adequately to make informed political, economical, and social decisions in our country. However, making college tuition completely free of cost is not a feasible strategy. Reasons that this plan is flawed is : Large increase of interest in students in applying to colleges, the value of a college degree would decrease,
You’re a grade A student, and you’re extremely smart. There’s only one problem, you aren’t able to afford college. So you get through high school, and get a local job at a grocery store. You knew you would have became a doctor if your family had the money, but they don’t. There was a different path that you could have gone on, you could have went to college, and got a really nice job. Why couldn’t college just be free for people with a 3.5 higher GPA? What if they are a current resident of that state?
I appreciate being choosing to receive the Presidential Scholarship: Thank you for your generosity and support. I represent the first in my family to go to college, and I hope to be an inspiration to all of my younger family members, to strive to do the same.
It is with humility and great appreciation that I accept this scholarship. My family and I are extremely grateful to your donation to this life changing Scholarship Foundation. Due to your generosity I and many other scholarship recipients are able to continue on our paths to higher education.
Having an education is the prime key to becoming successful in life and having a high school diploma is just not enough. Majority of the jobs in society today require individuals to obtain a college degree or trade. It is not easy trying to receive a degree or trade because of the expenses. Those who do not have a degree or trade have to settle for minimum wage paying jobs and others simply cannot find jobs at all. A convenient solution to this is that the federal government should offer free tuition to all students seeking a two-year college education with at least a 2.5 GPA.
