Some brainstorming was done to determine the lineup of the bacteria on two Petri dishes. Next, the experiment started with the labeling of the two Petri dishes. This was followed by a mistake that occurred, which was corrected with an orange dry-erase marker. Then our hands were sanitized with hand sanitizer, and was followed with bacteria collecting. The bacteria was collected, from the silver-ish, doorknob on the inside of the door near room B216 (with evacuation plan), and the beginning part of the handrail at the right found near the stairs of the B building opposite to Luck Hall. After that, the process was
The human race is about to be annihilated in 240 hours and at the bottom of it all is an infamous genius. Equipped with vast resources stolen from the Supreme Leader of North Korea, the most powerful man on the planet decides to impart his wisdom.
In which petri dish did you observe the highest hatching viability? Did the results support your prediction in Pre-Laboratory Question #2?
The mole is a convenient unit for analyzing chemical reactions. Avogadro’s number is equal to the mole. The mass of a mole of any compound or element is the mass in grams that corresponds to the molecular formula, also known as the atomic mass. In this experiment, you will observe the reaction of iron nails with a solution of copper (II) chloride and determine the number of moles involved in the reaction. You will determine the number of moles of copper produced in the reaction of iron and copper (II) chloride, determine the number of moles of iron used up in the reaction of iron and copper (II) chloride, determine the ratio of moles of iron to moles of copper, and determine the number of atoms and formula units involved in
In the beginning of lab, we were advised to obtain a nutrient agar petri plate, which is used for the cultivation of microbes supporting growth of non-fastidious organisms. Since it contains many nutrients, a wide variety of bacteria and fungi can grow. Taking the plate,
What is its melting point? 1,405 K: 1,132 C: 2,070 F. boiling point? 4,404 K: 4,131 C: 7,468 F
This is important in the medical field because identification of unknown bacteria can help treat a patient by knowing the contributing source of a disease. Also knowledge of different bacteria helped others make antibiotics used today. This lab was completed by using the methods learned thus far in identification of bacteria.
a) Tap and drag over the area of the graph where the resting heart rate is displayed to select the data.
The main idea of this experiment was to correctly identify the unknown bacteria, #3. Identification of unknown bacteria yields multiple benefits in many different areas in the research of microorganisms. In this experiment I performed many different test dealing with things such as the presence of enzymes, fermentation abilities and different chemical reactions. Observations made from the tests were then compared to a gram negative unknown chart in order to identify the bacteria. Based off of my results and the chart, I concluded the bacteria #3 was the bacteria Escherichia coli. E. coli is most commonly found in the intestines of warm blooded organisms. Most E. coli strands are non pathogenic however, there are strands
Station one: Station one shows that when a small piece of magnesium metal is placed over the flame of the Bunsen burner, the magnesium metal ignites, giving off a bright, white light. Once the flame has extinguished itself due to the lack of fuel, the magnesium metal turned from a metallic strip to a crumbled white powder. It can be decided that station one is a combination (redox) reaction, as a new product is synthesised by the combination of two reactants. The reactants, magnesium and oxygen gas in the air bonded together to form the product of magnesium oxide.
In this project, C. Elegans are hermaphrodite worms that will be used since they are easy to maintain in lab, as well as have short life cycles. The gene that the project attempted to knockdown in C. Elegans with RNAi treatment is the unc-22 gene. RNAi disrupts gene expression in the presence of double stranded RNA (dsRNA) that is complementary to target gene sequence. The unc-22 gene codes for a muscle protein called twitchin in wild-type worms. The Unc-22 is required for muscle regulation and maintenance in C.Elegans. To verify that the RNAi treatment worked, would check the unc-22 mRNA levels in the worms, in addition to phenotype observation.
The petri dish was sanitized and covered in the agar. The cotton swabs used to swab bacterial samples were dampened using water. The spots around the school were swabbed and brought back to the petri dish to prepare to grow the bacteria. To get the bacteria to transfer off the cotton swab and onto the agar, the cotton swab must be rolled around the entire surface
The mean voltage of the battery terminals while connected to the identification resistors is presented in Figure 4 12. These samples have been pulled out from the voltage sensor of the PEB panel. The voltage decreased as expected from 12.53 to 12.5 during first 20 seconds of connection to the
Use 25 pipette filler by attaching a 25 ml tube, pulling up the water by pushing the button on the pipet to make it go up to 25 ml and let go of the button.
In this experiment, pH indicators, colour indicators, metallic ions, and Kovac’s reagent all aide in the differentiation of different bacteria under different conditions. Proteus vulgaris for example is a rapid production of urease and this is shown through the phenol red indicator, turning from yellow to pink. This experiment is usually done to distinguish from Proteus and other bacteria, which helps to isolate these bacteria since they are infectious (O'hara, et al., 2000).
To calculate the expected number of pipette tips needed per month take the number of pipette tip per sample to multiply it with the average sample analysed per month, 5 x 100 = 500.
