For this research paper I chose Industrial Pharmacy as my career interest. Industrial Pharmacy interest me because I find interest in health sciences and in chemistry. I have actually obtained some experience in this field from job shadowing and talking to a few different types of pharmacist. Through the school I was able to work in a community pharmacy for six weeks and the hospital pharmacy for a week. This was never my first choice in career, but after being exposed to several branches of this career, I came around to considering this career. Industrial pharmacists are not the everyday, community pharmacist, they are working behind the scenes in, of the whole industry.
To start off this career is a specific area of the pharmaceutical field

For example pharmacist need to find joy in conducting experiments, be able to work methodically, and have strong problem solving skills. They also need to be able to work independently, but also as a team. ("Career Centre." Industrial Pharmacist. N.p.) The skills should have been learned during ungraduated and graduate school, but perfected. Starting their practice and gaining experience contributes to this process. While working these pharmacists are exposed to several working conditions and social situations. After starting they not only gain academic experiences, but people skills. Apart of pharmacy is learning communication skills. They learn these skills through counseling patients, communicating with physicians, or interacting with fellow associates. (McDonough, Randy P., and Marialice S. Bennett. "Improving Communication Skills of Pharmacy Students Through Effective Precepting." American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education.) For the industry side of pharmacists they get to experience laboratories, clinical environments, and occasionally the manufacturing plants. Here they can be exposed to, potentially, hazardous materials. With that being the case PPE (personal protective equipment) might be required. Personal protective equipment includes: gloves, gowns, eye protection, masks, closed-toed shoes, and hazard suits. PPE is only worn in the laboratory when materials are either “new” or known to be hazardous. ("Career Centre." Industrial Pharmacist. N.p.) Furthermore, it is an industrial pharmacist's responsibility to know their working conditions and duties during their
My strongest impetus for the study of this major is pegged on the personal urge to improve the lives and health of those around me. I would only be able to serve the health of others when I am fully acquainted with the knowledge of pharmacy, which to me is one of the noblest professions. I am deeply concerned about the welfare of others. My experiences, especially as I visit hospitals form a significant part in influencing my choice to study pharmacy. At one point, I felt very bad when a pharmacist in a hospital I had visited was very indolent in serving a patient. All human beings would feel adored and valued when they are given appropriate attention in regard to their health. The health profession has a mission geared towards safeguarding people's health and that mission is perfectly in sync with my desires. I want to be exceptional, to do my best in caring for people, and attend to their interest to the best of my knowledge. I admire nourishing hope to desolate patients and always give them a reason to

My Butler University academic training and intern experience has positioned me to recognize and appreciate the essential role performed by the clinical pharmacist. Although sometimes transparent, it is the clinical pharmacist that is central to a patient’s ultimate successful recovery. This was evident during my clinical rotations, where I directly participated in the optimization of medication therapy to achieve patient-specific outcomes; it is for this reason I am impassioned and compelled to pursue a residency. As a PGY-1 resident, I plan to apply my clinical knowledge in the acute and ambulatory care settings to identify medication-related problems and make therapeutic recommendations in collaboration with other practitioners. Upon completion
The contribution of pharmacists in a clinical setting and community pharmacy is significant that the workforce benefit from. When the workforce understands their medications and complies with the prescribed treatment plans the work center becomes healthy and the potential of increased productivity becomes a realistic and profitable proposition for the organization. When the workforce takes advantage of the healthcare services the pharmacists provide in a community and clinical pharmacies productivity and profit are at high potential reality.
Studying at the West-Mec Pharmacy Technician program will eventually help me reach my long term goal of becoming a hospital pharmacist. This program will give me the benefit of hands-on training and will teach me the necessary skills that are required for a pharmacy technician. I want to have a career as a pharmacist in the future and I understand that becoming a pharmacy technician is not required, but it is a huge benefit. Pharmacists dispense medication and other remedies. They need to understand the importance of doses, allergens and other chemical reactions that may cause harm to the patients. Because of this, pharmacists are important to the medical field. I chose a pharmacist as my career because I want to ensure that my patients
Over the past century the practice of pharmacy has evolved from a field with few specialties typically focused on compounding and filling prescriptions to modern pharmacy practice which has many different specialties. Due to the many opportunities in the field of pharmacy one assignment I completed was the APhA Career Pathway Evaluation Program to see which specialties I hay have the most interest in based on a series of questions I answered. In the following paper, I will list and discuss these results, point out some of the positive and negative attributes to each career choice, and will make an assessment on which careers may be the best form me and some of the options I disagree with.
Pharmacists work environment of pharmacists is usually in retail places, hospitals and research facilities. The most common retail places pharmacists work are CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens. In Pennsylvania alone the average amount of annual openings is 400. In Pennsylvania alone, the employment number of “pharmacists is expected to grow by seventeen percent between 2008 and 2018” (“Outlook”). The employment number increase for pharmacists is higher than any other occupation. “The reason that pharmacist job prospects are high is because employers have problems attracting pharmacists because of the limited number of PharmD programs” (“Outlook”).
There are pharmacists that work in totally different fields and their tasks require them to be specialized in different areas of pharmacy. Some of the different types of pharmacists are, Pharmaceutical technicians and Pharmaceutical scientists. Both share a general relation with each other, but they both have major differences according to what they do on a daily basis. Pharmaceutical scientists usually specialize in one aspect of the drug development process. They design new drug remedies using natural or man made ingredients, they study how disease affects the body and what causes some people to develop certain types of disease, study how the human body responds to medications so scientists can develop more efficient, safer drugs, they uncover new ways to use existing drugs to treat different types of disease, they Test drugs on animals and humans to ensure safety and efficiency, determine the most effective formulation and dosage for a specific drug, and advise corporations or government agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration, on issues related to pharmaceutical development.(Explore) To become a pharmaceutical scientist, you must have a strong interest in mathematics, biology, and chemistry. In college, you can major in the pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy, chemistry, biology, engineering, medicine or a related field.(Explore) Pharmacy Technicians work the same hours as pharmacists. This may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Because some hospital and retail pharmacies are open 24 hours a day, technicians may work varying shifts. As their experience increases, pharmacy technicians often have increased control over the hours they work. There are many opportunities for part-time work in both retail and hospital environments.
A career that I have been interested in for a while is pharmacology, which is the study of drugs and medicines. Pharmacology covers the chemical and biological properties of drugs and different ways they can be used to help people and animals recover from anything from a headache to a chronic disease. Pharmacology interests me because I have an analytical mind, which means that I like to find out why things work the way they do and make connections between what happens. Since childhood I have always been interested in how drugs work and how the body uses different medicines to its advantage. I would like to specialize in studying mental health drugs and how they affect behavior and overall health, which is called psychopharmacology. I especially
Since, I have been effectively and appropriately following all the rules, regulations and policies developed by company, state or federal in all the manners. I have been very effective in creating positive atmosphere with pharmacists, technicians and other health care providers at work, rotation site or school. I am very positive that I am in advanced stage of understanding and applying this curricular outcome and I can perform all the outcome components independently.
Life after high school offers many options for all student bodies at schools across the nation. Everyone has to make their own path to decide what they will do with their future. The pathway which I will be pursuing is to attend a six to eight year program for pharmacy at Ohio Northern University. I made my decision at a young age to follow in my oldest sister’s footsteps. Jordan is an alumni of Ohio Northern University and currently serves as the pharmacists in charge at CVS in Gallipolis, Ohio. As I see myself as a natural leader I will be able to benefit pharmacy stores with my leadership skills. Having an impact on people’s life is also very important to me, and one way to do that is give others the medicine they need to help them get better.
The subject you need is reading, mathematics, and science or chemistry (Choices). This is very good for me, because reading may not be my favorite but I tend to do very good. Also mathematics is my strong point and science is close too. Through my interview I found out that you have to want to help people and that is something I’ve always been interested in (Criner). She also told me that I need to be able to think through things and problems solving, these are important because they arise in this career daily (Criner). One skill is active listening, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times ("Pharmacists Salary and Career Information." ). This applies to this career, because you can’t be rude to customers and you want to make sure everything is correct so nothing will harm them. I think this skill greatly applies to me, I fully listen to others when they are talking and understand them to the best of my ability. Another skill that applies to me is monitoring , monitoring/assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action ("Pharmacists Salary and Career Information." ). When in this career I was told that you need to be able to learn to separate the workload, because if you plan to do it all on your own you won’t get it done (Criner). So being able to monitor others and yourself because very important when thinking about that. In group projects and other activities in school though I can do that quite well. The last skill I am going to mention is judgment and decision making, considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one ("Pharmacists Salary and Career Information." ). You need to have this skill to be a Pharmacist, because you choose
Over the past few weeks I have been researching my interests, values, and goals. Throughout this research a lot of things that were already evident to me, were proven for a fact. My interests included researching different aspects of science and data analysis. Analysis has always been a big part of my life because I analyze everything. My values have been proven to be centered toward helping people and being around people. These interests and values are almost equivalent with what my goals in life have been over the past years. For the past few years I have wanted to become some type of pharmacist or physician. In this paper, I have researched what being a pharmacist and physician
Today in the 21st century the roles of pharmacist have expanded tremendously. Before pharmacist had the role of solely dispensing drugs. Pharmacists were limited to only being regulatory or clinical pharmacist. Back then they were called medical purveyors who were much like today’s regulatory pharmacist and hospital pharmacist who are similar to hospital pharmacist. Now pharmacists carry many roles in healthcare. Pharmacist can play roles in public health, community, health systems, state, and federal government.
The characteristics to become a pharmacist cannot be learned in college, it must be emphasized throughout the adolescent years. Some important features one needs to focus on are memorization, organization, being meticulous, and have a strong understanding of math and science. In the article “Top Skills You Need to be a Pharmacist”, the author states, “Before the pharmacist fills the prescription, they need to remember everything they learned […]. Pharmacists must know about hundreds of drugs — from their generic and brand names to their side effects and possible drug interactions” (Hart). Memorization is essential in order to be successful in this industry and is difficult to do. The organization skills of a future pharmacist must be top-notch because this field is based on it; medications need to be categorized by name, dosage amount, and amount of pills. Paying close attention to details is necessary as well because if there is
