The fifteen years I spent dancing ballet changed my professional outlook and goals more that I could have ever expected. As a dancer, I was wrapped in a world where criticism is natural, where eating disorders are expected, and where competition is brutal. While I learned the importance of perseverance, the rules of etiquette, and the significance of discipline, I did not learn the breadth of impact that neglecting my health would have on my mind and body. Once I entered college and became more of an ordinary student, I realized how abnormal my daily habits were. As a result, I decided to learn more about mental health and how it relates to exercise and nutrition. Throughout my undergraduate career, I spent a considerable amount of time researching different aspects of health. I not only earned a minor in Health and Exercise Science, but I also spent time outside of class looking into the components of nutrients and the benefits of different types of exercise. Because of my studies, I became interested in the ways that physical health and mental health tie together, like how cardiovascular exercise reduces cortisol levels and how Omega 3 fatty acids improve cognitive function. Furthermore, In order to further facilitate my interest in health and psychology, I researched different clinics in my area that I could become a potential volunteer for to develop future goals that match my newly found passion. In August of 2016, the Healthy Futures Medical Directors, Dr.
The Physical and Mental Health committee continues to plan activities to promote positive health, physically and mentally.
While the research of Blumenthal et al. (2007) focused on exercise being effective in reducing self-reported depressive symptoms, Diaz and Motta (2008) and Motta, Kuligowski, and Marino (2010) looked at the positive effects of exercise on depression, anxiety and PTSD. The theory of exercise’s positive effect on mental health has heavily been focused on

Understand the factors influencing the health and wellbeing of individuals in Health and Social care settings.
Chapter one starts by telling the reader all the different kinds of health that we as humans experience. Ranging from physical health talking about the shape and size of the body to environmental health talking about the positive and negative impacts of where one might live. The chapter also expresses how if one chooses to start caring about their health it can lead to a longer, happier life. The choices people make when they are younger greatly impact their health later on in life.
Mental health in Utah has and continues to be the forefront of concern for many throughout the state. The reasons it is such a hot bed issue is due the staggering statistics that come out every year showing Utah as one of the leading states for mental health issues per capita. One article in particular had a report that showed survey results done by the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the NDSUH. They found that 22.4 percent of the Adult population here in Utah had a mental disorder in 2014 (CROFTS,2014 ). With the unfortunate trend of mental health issues being a problem in Utah, it comes without a doubt that other issues start to arise such as care for these individuals suffering from these problems. There are many agencies and programs as well professionals who fight everyday in hopes of curbing this epidemic but it is without saying that they too face dilemmas in their line of work. With the sheer number of problems as outlined above, Utah faces an uphill battle for the well being of its literal mental health. This calls for a larger number of professionals combating this epidemic. The questions of moral and ethical responsibilities now become a talking point. To begin I want to state that due to the complexities of the subject it would not be productive, in my opinion, to discuss why we have such a high level mental health issues in our state. The motive for exploring these concerns of patient confidentiality is because of what I believe to be the many
The purpose of this assignment is to analyse a public health issue that is an occurring issue with a service user I have come in contact with during practice. Obesity is the public health issue that will be discussed and the policy that relates to it ‘Reducing obesity and improving diet’ which was published by (Department of Health, 2013). This policy addresses the public health issue and provides ideas for change to reduce obesity within the United Kingdom. It will then link to how this policy has been applied to the public through the promotion of the ‘Change4Life’ programme. Cognitive therapy will be discussed and how research evidence highlights its effectiveness as a talking therapy to help maintain control over obesity. Confidentiality will be maintained throughout in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council guidance (NMC) (2008).
As a student, I maintain physical wellness by trying my best to stay active. Last semester, I had volleyball practices every Monday through Friday for at least two hours. In addition to practice, our team played matches at least once a week, occasionally twice a week. This semester, I have weight training workouts for an hour and a half in the mornings on Monday through Friday every week. During the daytime hours, I practice volleyball every Monday through Thursday. To maintain mental wellness, I try my best to spend at least an hour a week doing something for me, which I enjoy. An example of this would be spending my time by running and walking outdoor trails, watching the TV show, Criminal Minds, with my friends, or enjoying time with my family members. By doing this, I am sure that I stay just as mentally healthy as I am physically healthy.
Mental health is considered as an essential part of health in which an individual recognizes their full capacity to deal with pressures that surround them, work productively and be of positive influence to society. World Health Organization [WHO] (2008) reported that Australia contributes an estimate of 29.4% of neuropsychiatric on the global burden of disease. In 2015 the revised Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation [ANMF] Policy states that the distribution of health care in mental health nursing requires skills and expertise for them to deliver a complete, broad and universal mental health care to affected individuals. Thus, the sustenance of the mental health nursing should be given comprehensive, intensive and sufficient support. This research will explore the perspectives of psychiatric nurses from different facilities regarding their reason in choosing mental health nursing and remaining as mental health nurse (MHN). Findings will be used as a reference for the retention and recruitment of mental health nursing.
After reading the three articles provided, I believe that physical exercise is more important for the brain than mental exercise. Gatz wrote about how epidemiological studies show lower risk of education to Alzheimer’s disease (Gatz, M. 2005). This is good but it is not confirmed. The article by Gatz also talked about how many studies to deduct if mental exercise is beneficial to brain health are influenced by factors such as nutrition, sleep, stress management and good vascular health (Gatz, M. 2005). Therefore I do not feel that there is enough evidence to show that mental exercise is the best form of exercise for brain health.
The aim of this essay is to identify the definition of health and how an individual or groups health can be affected by various socio-economic and psychological factors. Firstly, the essay will define the concept of health explore each factor individually. Then it will examine the evidence that support the link between these factors and their impact on health. Finally, the essay will explore personal observations that support these findings.
Mental health is a major concern for the general population, but especially for university students (Reeves et al., 2011; Hunt and Eisenberg, 2010; Biddle and Asare, 2011). It is important to look at what causes mental health issues, such as psychological distress, and what can be done to help eliminate or treat them (Hunt and Eisenberg, 2010; Knowlden, Hackman, and Sharma, 2015; Biddle and Asare, 2011). One possible factor when looking at what could influence psychological distress is physical activity (Knowlden, Hackman, and Sharma, 2015). There have been countless studies on the role that exercise plays in mental (Knowlden, Hackman, and Sharma, 2015; Biddle and Asare, 2011; Mailey et al., 2012). Physical activity has been
When looking at the rural areas of Canada, there is one particular area of health care that appears to be lacking – mental health care services. This can have many serious implications on the communities in which are being underserved, as well for the nurses and health care professionals providing the care for those with mental illness.
In the trailer for unnatural causes, the speaker introduces health by making the statement that, “we carry our history in our bodies.” By this she is talking about factors other than social behavior that influence health. She specifically discusses how an individual’s biological makeup can be a determinate of their future health, however, the environment in which the individual lives in, is a factor that is ignored. Humans are continuously growing, from adolescence to adulthood and so on. However all the time in between growing, contains moments that can influence one’s health and is added or stored into our bodies affecting our overall wellbeing. Examples of health influencing moments include coming into contact with other individuals, or
Health, as defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) (1946), is the “state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. Alternate definitions include “a dynamic state of well-being characterised by a physical and mental potential, which satisfies the demands of life commensurate with age, culture, and personal responsibility” (Birscher, 2005). Health and wellbeing statistics are vital information as an indicator of the health of the nation. The statistics produced are observed to vary between countries as different methods and standards of measures are applied. The extent of measurement also depends on the social awareness of the implications of health and wellbeing.
