Plagiarism is a very important topic that needs to be addressed with students at all phases of their academic progression. Plagiarism is a form of academic dishonesty. It involves taking information from a source and using it as your own (Bethel, 2015). Plagiarizing can be a very easy thing to do if you do not pay attention, but it can also be easily avoided. The most important thing to do is make sure that you are citing your sources and citing them properly (Bethel, 2015). I think that for me, this is the hardest thing to avoid. I am always afraid that I will cite sources improperly and be charged with plagiarism. I have been afraid of plagiarism ever since I wrote my first essay in high school. One great way to avoid improperly citing is to get your information from the Bethel University library (Bethel, 2014). If you get your information from there, you can click on the yellow piece of paper on the right of …show more content…

Hello David, I hope that you are doing well. Thank you for commenting on my post. It can be very easy to improperly cite a source. I usually use easybib.com if possible. I wish I knew more about how you could use Word. That would probably come in handy. Improper citation is something that I have been afraid of since I started writing essays using MLA format in high school. It has always been a fear of mine to be accused of plagiarism, because I would never intentionally plagiarize. I try to live my life with integrity. I want to set an example for my children. In the the Marine Corps, our core values are honor, courage and commitment. I take all three very seriously.

There are several ways that students can avoid plagiarism. The best way is to be informed
Plagiarism is presenting the words or ideas of someone else as your own, without proper acknowledgment of the source. Plagiarism ranges from copying word-for-word, to paraphrasing a passage and changing only a few words, to quoting or paraphrasing without credit. Whether you quote actual words or use ideas borrowed from any source, you must reference the source in your essay or project. Not documenting your sources is considered plagiarism and has severe consequences. In college courses, you are expected to document your sources properly and consistently. A lot of students do not intend to plagiarize. In reality, students realize that citing sources actually helps build their credibility for an audience and grasp
The author points out various examples of the Corps short-comings throughout history. With the Marine Corps already struggling to stay atop its game, it didn’t shed positive light on the situations. With that said, it’s hard to point out the flaws of the Corps without also showing its achievements and how we can overcome any obstacle we are faced with.
Being a college student is hard. College requires plenty of work. Some students have other things to do besides going to school; some of them need to work in order to pay for their tuition. When school isn’t the only thing students have to worry about, they might get behind in their classes, but they can’t fail them so they have to find out a way to stay on both their job and school. A large amount of students are pushed into cheating; they do it so often that suddenly it becomes a habit. Nowadays, plagiarism is extremely popular. Students don’t like using their brain anymore; they just copy and paste. To avoid plagiarism, students should do their own work; learn how to cite in a proper form, and understand that plagiarism can result in
I should fix all of my mistakes; if they are not it is considered plagiarism and I will receive a zero on my paper. I may also fail the class and get an academic red flag report. Turning in an old essay I did from another class or using parts of an old exposition is still considered plagiarism and I will receive the same punishment. A warning is a chance so I should take full advantage and fix them. If I do not understand something I should ask questions and get the help I need. When writing a paper, I should not forget the work cited page, page numbers, and text citations. Three ways that I can use to avoid plagiarism are to quote, paraphrase and summarize. I should quote when there is a conclusion or opinion with credentials. Facts should not be quoted, but cited instead. I should summarize so I can input ideas together. Building on paragraphs and explaining details is one example of summarizing. Lastly, paraphrasing should not be rearranged, but should be elaborated on certain ideas and explain how they all fit
Plagiarism is when a person tries to use someone else’s paper or project or even ideas and say they are theirs and take credit for it. Academic integrity on the other hand are the morals or values that each campus or university holds. This includes things like being honest, being determinate, integrity and doing hard work. On some campuses if you are caught doing any form of plagiarism you can be expelled and banned from the campus. Collusion is a conspiracy the is illegal or secretive especial in a way to deceive or cheat other people. Some examples of plagiarism would be if a student did a project involving a pamphlet and another student seen it and took all the pamphlet and said they were theirs. Another example could be if a senior in
Plagiarism, what is it and how to avoid it has been a major question on every students’ mind. Sure it is easy just to copy and paste and take all the credit for the work that another individual put in, but is it worth it? According to WPA, Writing Program Administrators, the definition of plagiarism as states, “plagiarism occurs when a writer deliberately uses someone else’s language, ideas, or other original (not common-knowledge) material without acknowledging its source.” Plagiarism has always concerned teachers and administrators, who want students’ work to repre¬sent their own efforts and to reflect the outcomes of their learning. However, with the advent of the Internet and easy access to almost limitless written material on
To avoid plagiarism there are a few things that you could do to avoid it. The first thing that you could to is write your notes in your own words. When you write your notes in your own words it helps you by not plagiarizing and that you can copy and paste the notes that you have written in your own words into your writing. Another way to avoid plagiarism is by using "quotes". Using quotes is a way to use someones words but giving them credit in your writing so that you don't plagiarize. Another way to avoid plagiarism is referencing. Referencing is when you give credit at the end of your paper and tell the reader were and who you found the information from. Citing is another way that you could avoid plagiarism. Citing is when you write something
By the time you started high school you already knew what plagiarism was, it’s when you take someone else’s work and make it your own. But did you know that it could cause you to get expelled from a college or that you could be in legal trouble? This could be known as collusion which means “secret or illegal cooperation or conspiracy, especially in order to cheat or deceive others”. The student handbook at Coffeyville Community states that “students can expect disciplinary action for failing to maintain a stand of honesty. Violations will be filed to the Vice President for Academic Services Office”. Therefore, you should have academic integrity. This is when you work hard, write your own paper, or when you’re honest about it.
Plagiarism is basically taking the credit for someone’s work, in other words cheating and stealing someone else’s hard work. It is important to cite because it proves the amount of research you have done and it makes your research a lot stronger because it gives support from credible sources. What I have learned from this course and from my past experience is that if I am going to use someone else’s work, I have to cite the work and give credit to its creator. In order to avoid plagiarism, I will rewrite anything that needs to be cited properly and I will reread everything in order to make sure that all quotes and work from another individuals are properly cited and paraphrased with its reference. Also, I will use online sites, such as the
The type of plagiarism that is the hardest for me to avoid is paraphrasing. “Paraphrasing allows you to put the author’s ideas into your own words” (Bethel University, 2015). I find myself using more of the author’s words because I am afraid that I will change the meaning if I use my own. The best way for me to avoid this type of plagiarism is to simply compare what I write to the original and to be sure that I am not summarizing the information. The difference between writing a summary and paraphrasing is the amount of detail that is included; a paraphrase is not as concise as a summary (Bethel University, 2014).

Simply defined, the word plagiarism means "the unauthorized use of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own" ("Plagiarism"). While many students understand and comprehend the first clause of this definition, many encounter problems with the second part - the thoughts part. Many students in today's educational system are frequently unable to develop their own thoughts, opinions, and ideas relating to the subject matter that they are studying. However, when people at a university are educated according to the ways set forth by John Henry Newman in "The Idea of a University," their ability to create original concepts would be cultivated to the
I can avoid plagiarism and keep my integrity by doing my own work and using my own ideas on articles I read. I can also avoid plagiarism by remembering the consequences if I do commit plagiarism. Again I should always run my work threw the center for writing excellence. The college has no tolerance for plagiarism and I have to uphold to that.
In colloquial language plagiarism is the concept of stealing someone’s piece of work or someone’s idea. It is clear that plagiarising is unjust and immoral, however now a days it is becoming more difficult to come up with original ideas as the media allows students to have open access to all information and the producer or author must be very careful to not use somebody else’s work unintentionally and claim it as theirs. It is important to educate students about plagiarism as it can carry major consequences. The concept of plagiarism with reference to policy will be outlined and also the steps helping students and authors to avoid plagiarism in this assignment.
