It is clear to me that naturally grown organic products are better for consumption, rather than processed food, due to the fact there are no harsh chemicals added which is what ultimately causes health problems. Plant-based products have a powerful effect on the human body and I am fascinated with not only the healing effects, but also the reversing effects of cancer and many other illnesses. I highly recommend those who are suffering from illness to consider switching to a plant-based diet to help their body cure itself. For example, according to the PETA website the World Health Organization (WHO), they explain, “More than 40 percent of all cancer cases are preventable, and the American Cancer Society reports that one-third of all cancer deaths in the United States can be attributed to unhealthy eating habits and lack of physical activity. Both organizations advise people to eat plant-based foods to reduce the risk of developing cancer. Vegan foods- especially fiber-packed grains and beans and phytochemical-packed fruits and vegetables- can help ward off cancer. Research suggests that’s people who eat vegan foods are between 25-50 percent less likely to get the disease” (1). In other words, everyone has control over their health, the type of food that is consumed plays a huge role in a person’s health. Changing our diet to plant-based foods can help prevent illnesses such as cancer ultimately saving many people’s lives. Altering our eating habits is defiantly a whole lot
Every year, 1.2 million people are diagnosed with cancer and more than 500,000 people die from the disease. According to the National Cancer Institute, over 30% of these deaths can be attributed to diet. This means that the average person can greatly lower his risk of getting cancer simply by changing his diet. There is, of course, no guarantee against cancer, but the lifestyle choices that we make now can have a huge impact on our lives in the future. (http://www.aicr.org/expert1.htm)
Over the last few years, awareness of organic food has risen. Due to this, the demand for organic food is a factor which is influencing the farmers to switch to use this technique, and it is being sold in specialty stores and conventional supermarkets. Organic products contain numerous marketing claims that it is healthier, it offers more value, and the farming is more environmentally friendly than traditional foods, so, how does one determine if organic is the way to go? Some argue that there is evidence that supports and demonstrates why organic foods and farming are better overall, while others insist that conventional foods and agriculture can offer the same benefits as going organic. There is no right or wrong answer. Within this
We are faced with diseases that attack our body's fighting mechanism each day. Millions suffer with diabetes, cancer, and heart disease each year by far. The CDC reports that heart disease is the number one leading killer among cancer and diabetes, due to the lack of diet and exercise, though cancer is steadily rising and coming in at number two. Darletta Strothers, a breast cancer survivor is now living to tell her story of a holistic vegan diet that saved her life, after being diagnosed with stage three cancer in 2014. Leaving Winship Cancer Institute in disbelief, she vowed to fight, to live, and beat breast cancer!
Research shows that in countries where people eat a pound or more of fruit and vegetables a day , the rate of cancer is half what it is in the United States. Pollan argues that vegetarians are less susceptible to most of the western diseases, and as a consequence live longer than the rest of us(164). Apparently, we can’t live without plants, but we don’t need to eat meat in order to obtain the nutrients we need for growth because they can be found elsewhere (Pollan 165). Since plants are less energy dense than other foods, by eating a plant-based diet one will likely consume fewer calories which is itself protective against many chronic disease (Pollan 165).I agree with Pollan that a plant-based diet can help reduce the risk of obesity, Diabetes, and Heart Disease.
Fork Over Knives is a movie about animal vs. plant based diets / food systems. In this film, the producers found that some degenerative diseases can be prevented by avoiding the typical American diet consisting of animal–based protein and processed foods. Dr. Campbell from Cornell University appears in the film as a nutritional scientist. Over 40 years ago he was focusing on producing animal protein of good quality to help malnourished people in the third world countries. However, he found out that, in the Philippines, the children who were consuming relatively large amounts of animal-based foods had a higher incidence of developing cancer of the liver.
These components all work together to cause major issues like obesity, heart disease, and cancer leading to billions of dollars being put to the treatment of millions of patients each year. Researchers like John McDougall, John Robbins, and David Robinson Simon have put in years and years of research and experimentation to prove to society and the Western culture that we are not fueling our bodies appropriately and in fact, we are causing serious damage that may or may not be reversible. With simple dietary changes, the three big killers-cancer, heart disease, and obesity-can all be eradicated. As proven by hundreds of years of healthy, disease free cultures, we can thrive on a plant-based, starch heavy diet without added animal products high in acid, fat, and cholesterol. The meat and dairy industries survive by telling society that we must consume excessive amounts of protein and calcium to stay healthy when Asian and ancient societies have proven this to be false. Maybe it is time for us to stop treating health problems, most likely caused by poor and harmful diets, with a plant-based diet. These simple and easy changes could be the difference in not only quality of life, but the extension of it. Maybe Albert Einstein was right, “Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chance for survival of life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian
While we all love food and it’s a necessity to live there are now two categories of food. Organic and non-organic, this can be any food from meats to dairy to fruits and so on just about everything today can be put to one side or the other. Through the use of evidence and explanations, the difference between organic and non-organic will be shown in depth providing for a decision to be made between the two.
So many people are affected by cancer each year in the US. And too many are dying from it. Each year, about 1.2 million people are affected by cancer in the US. And each year, about 556,000 die from it. Sadly, most of these cancer cases could have been prevented. According to WHO.com, around one third of deaths from cancer are due to behavioral and dietary habits. Therefore, if people were to watch what they ate, and avoid unhealthy behaviors, the death rate due to cancer would drop significantly, as would the total number of cancer cases. A natural and healthy diet, followed by healthy choices and behaviors, could also help a patient who is diagnosed with cancer to shrink the tumor, or get rid of it permanently, such as in the case of my parents ' dear friend, Ms. Gloria Lopez, or Ms. Gloria, as my brothers and I call her.
Approximately three percent of the world’s population live an average of eight years longer than the rest. These group of people are also known to have a decreased rate of heart attack, cancer, and other chronic diseases. It is said that the best thing a person could have is their health, so why do these illnesses continue to be our number one killer, and what are these three percent doing differently? The only way to maintain this perfect health most of us dream about is to go vegan, the healthiest lifestyle on the planet.
Plants and food have been used for thousands of years to combat illness so can food be used to combat diseases that may not have been around previously? Certain cancers and cardiovascular diseases require a change in diet after surgery to yield successful results I believe it would be more beneficial to change eating habits before hand to prevent or begin the fight against the sickness. My family has a history of cancers, my grandfather was a survivor of 3 drastically different types of cancer at varying times in his life,” the doctors believe that it was his vegan diet that helped him survive. By putting quality foods in your body you will get good out. This topic is important for future research and practices in the fight against cancer and other diseases.
While reading the case of cancer free meat eaters I found myself agreeing with several things but also disagreeing. I agree on grass being high in cancer fighting but not the the part about why grass is being fed to beef. I also agree with the Vitamin B17 theory. In addition I admit Vitamin D and Salmon can prevent heart attacks and kill cancer cells but I don't think it's going to cure someone from cancer in a few months or even years. For this process to work you may need a specific type of salmon and you would of have to of started this at a young age or even do this for many many years. Come to terms this is just a theory not even scientifically proven.
Imagine a life with no joint pain, no guilt from food consumption, a ton of energy, and a spiritual connection to nature. This is what my everyday life has become and I have never been happier. My whole world turned for the best when I cut animal byproducts out of my life and became a vegan. Slowly but surely, my body healed itself from the inside-out. If one was to ask me about becoming vegan before I knew what benefits it would provide, I would have laughed. I would have told that vegan that I just couldn’t give up my beloved meat, dairy, and eggs but ultimately, I did just that. The transition to Veganism became easier when I accepted the truth of the matter. All of the research I did on the lifestyle led me to the conclusion that
Monsanto's GMO seeds and the deadly chemicals that are sprayed on them is something I have spent a lot of time writing about, so I figured it was time to actually explain the difference between GMO seeds and organic seeds. In hindsight, this should have probably been written before the Monsanto series, however, it is never too late to discuss the half-truths, misinformation and outright lies coming mainly the Biotech industry. A growing number of people have already awakened to the truths about GMO's, yet, many still believe the propaganda coming from the industry and their spokesmen such as Dr. Oz ,who used to say he would never allow GMO foods on his dinner table. He has since changed his tone and is trying to convince everyone that organic
With the world’s population continuing to increase, the demand for food is higher than ever. This increase in food demand also calls for more efficient ways of growing and providing the food. Two methods that are very controversial are the organic and conventional method. While many people support the organic method because of its known benefits, others feel that it is an over inflated industry that cheats consumers out of their money. But recently many studies have disproved those critics. These studies prove that Organic food is a better choice than conventional because it is better for the environment, avoids the use of chemicals, and is generally more beneficial.
A large part of a person’s lifetime is spent on their consumption of food, which is often done while neglecting the impact their diet has on their health. Is there a reason for us to be conscious of our diet? Are potential health benefits really worth the effort? Vegetarian have shown many health benefits in comparison to meat eaters such as decreased chances of developing type 2 diabetes, less risk of heart disease and prostate cancer, lower blood cholesterol levels and blood pressure to name a few (Mangels et al., 2014). Plants provide antioxidants that are only present in small amounts in meat products, these phytochemicals help protect cells from damage and thus have reduced odds of developing some cancers (Leitzmann, 2014). One of the
