“Curiosity” Poetry Response

The first line of this poem clearly connects to the title when considering the piece is entitled “Curiosity” and the first line is read as “may have killed the cat”(1). This is a clear reference to the phrase ‘curiosity killed the cat’ which this poem contradicts by placing it into a much broader text rather than a situational event. Expanding upon this well know phrase makes people associate this poem the next time one is warned about the dangers of curiosity. The setting of a good and stable life found within stanza two tells what the cat decides is not exactly necessary to be happy. The stanza as a whole makes one possibly think of the saying ‘ignorance is bliss’ which entails ignoring the vast opportunities given everyday which could lead to a full and more enlightened life (). Rather than going along with whatever is said cats rather question it and, follow the created structure society believes is right making everything wrong to them in comparison in such articulated lines as “To distrust what is always said, what seems, to ask odd questions, interfere od dreams...do not endear cats to those doggy circles”(lines(). (dreams).
The work seems to reference that there are two types of people in this world and they are either a cat or a dog. These two serving as a clear and graspable metaphor for the reader to comprehend. Characterizing cats as constantly changing risk takers who live life to the fullest without concern for how the rest of society views them. While dogs do not venture for anything more and do not risk what they have for the opportunity for a different (). Love can also be considered a risk which involves curiosity. Cats playing a major role in that they pay the price for the way that they live. Cats are capable of seeing what they’re missing in life (). Cats take the risks and what come with them such as the good and bad.
The third stanza gives three clear points over the importance of experiences to occur in one's life. Beginning with the line “Curiosity will not cause us to die - only lack of it will”(15-17) which states that ignoring something ()curiosity leads to knowledge which is linked with change.
