Each year we encounter new people and new events that seemingly shake up the world around us. One of these people whom we encountered in 2013 was Pope Francis. Almost every Christian and non-Christian knows something about Pope Francis. He was named person of the year by Time Magazine, referred to as an inspiration by Catholics around the world, and he seemed to win the hearts of all Christians with his charm. He especially has seemed successful at attracting young adults and millenials to faith, a feat that is usually too difficult for even the most experienced pastor to succeed at doing. Pope Francis certainly became popular in 2013. His charm, his honesty, his devotion to God, and even his ability to be on social media all added …show more content…
Verse 21 says, “Going on from there, he (Jesus) saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets.” They too were fishing in the lake, they were hard at work trying to make their living. Jesus calls out to them just as he called out to Andrew and Simon Peter. Verse 22, “Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.” Again all that Jesus had to say was “Come, follow me,” and James and John leave their fishing and their father behind in order to follow …show more content…
The missional task of discipleship. How do we prepare ourselves to nurture ourselves or others when they hear a call in their lives such as that of Jesus. A call that simply says “Follow Me.” A call toward a life shaped by Jesus for the rest of their days. Maybe it is a call to a specific task, maybe it’s a call to a new vocation, or maybe it’s a call to make disciples for Jesus. How do we as Christians prepare ourselves and others for this kind of call to discipleship- this kind of life transforming trust and faith in Jesus Christ and what God has planned for our lives? It is all through faith. Through trusting and believing in Jesus Christ. And we have to have faith and trust no matter how we receive a
The biggest living figure in the Catholic Faith is the Pope, who leads us everyday by spreading and giving God’s word. The Pope brings us closer to God in many different spiritual ways. The topic I have chosen to pursue is, how someone can become the Pope. One of the main reasons I have chosen this topic is because I am a very dedicated catholic and have been practicing my religion since I could ever remember. Our current Pope right now is a inspiration to me and it really makes me interested in what it takes to become Pope because when I listen to him speak I can see how confident he is and how much courage he has, and that is what strong leaders are made of. My main motivation
Pope John XXIII played a vital role in shaping Christianity as we know it today. He contributed socially, politically and liturgically and was a major influence in the establishment of ecumenism and interfaith dialogue between other churches and religions. He advocated Christian unity, social justice, human rights and the promotion of world peace, and his openness to all people led to him obtaining the name “Good Pope John”.
Pope John Paul was one of the most influential persons of the 21st century. He changed the way the Catholic Church looked at the world and vice versa. Unlike most other predecessors, he stressed on dialogue and understanding among the people of the world. He sought to bring the people of the world together through the message of both love and peace. The role he played in destroying communism and bringing dictatorship around the world to an end gained wide media coverage. His dialogue between different faiths was admirable. During his papacy that stretched from 1978 to his death in 2005, he had a positive impact on the Catholic scene in particular and the world in general.
Nearly two decades later, I started to put the pieces of the puzzle together. It would start with a simple but powerful statement, “We are called to make disciples, not members.” That statement would lead me to reflect on and seek out a better understanding of what it meant to be a disciple. That, in turn, led me to study and reflect on the concept of servanthood. I realized that developing a more personal and authentic relationship with Christ required more than just attending worship, working in the church and simply believing in Him. I realized that living a Christ-like life required a different way of thinking, a different way of living.
Jorge Mario Bergoglio, more commonly known as Pope Francis, was elected Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church on 13 March 2013 , and since then has done much to change the lives of everyone he can for the better. Pope Francis has famously said “My people are poor and I am one of them” and has used this to guide his decision making on how the Catholic Church should change its focus to help those in need. He has done and changed much in order to change the current course of the Catholic Church and direct it back towards what it was originally meant to be: a communion of people that know and love God and pass this on the others. This brave new path that Pope Francis has set the Catholic Church on is summarized in his Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii
Pope- A man who is a head of the Roman Catholic Church and The Bishop of Rome.
Hundreds of thousands of people journeyed across the United States and to the United States in order to see Pope Francis and hear different speeches that he gave to various people of the nation. Francis is slowly getting used to the publicity and adoration that comes with being the Pope. However, this has not come easy for the quite spoken man who has come from Argentina. As Pope Francis traveled throughout the United States, he presented many issues for the consideration of all people, speaking from his experiences and previous background.
Over the course of decades, thousands of catholic priests and bishops sexually abused thousands of children. The Catholic Church attempted to cover up these incidents by re-positioning church leaders and has spent nearly 4 billion dollars over 65 years to redeem the church's name.
Have you ever heard of Pope Francis? Well, he is the current Pope in today's world; and boy, is he amazing! The qualities of a great leader I think he best portrays are his respect, influence, and kindness. These qualities may seem normal at first, but once I tell you about them, you are going to understand how amazing they are in his ways.
To start off, the Pope was a voice of conscience and a modern-day apostle. Even though there were many apostles from the past, Saint Pope John Paul II has been described as a modern-day apostle with honour, and with reason.
As Philadelphia prepares for Pope Francis’ visit, he continues to make headlines for his continual use of the papacy power in an effort incite action in correcting many societal issues. And although the Pope’s activism has been sensationalized in the media as novel, throughout the centuries the Pope has been a figure whose influence and power extends past the Catholic Church and taps into the realm of law and politics.
Pope Saint John XXIII was born as Angelo Guiseppe Roncalli on the 25th November 1881. He was the eighth child in his family and his parents were poor sharecroppers that lived in a small Italian town. He was ordained as a priest in 1904. Pope Pius IX, who was pope up until 1903, had made a command that all Catholic priests were to be entirely separated from the political world. His successor, Pope Pius X, the pope during Roncalli’s ordination, took this a step further and attempted to remove all forms of modernism from the church.
Discipleship starts with the heart, it is to have Christ at the center, to have His love, His Holy Spirit fill you, and guide you. To have Christ as the centrality
Pope Benedict XI must be one of the greatest Papal ever. At the time of his leadership it was a moment great quest by Christians in Europe and the world to get someone with divine prophetic call to shape the end of the war I. Pope Benedict XI is hailed as having had great desire to help Europe stop carnage and destruction of innocent lives and property. He must have used his gifted voice to call for warring nation to make peace by use of peaceful means such as diplomacy and treats that could define the disputed boundaries and territories. Off course, war I was majorly caused by unlawful annexation of territories and lack of humanity.
Caring and loving, Pope Pius X as a priest and later bishop cared much for the spiritual lives of his parishioners. Knowing that there were not very many men becoming priests he started seminaries. Starting catechism classes was another important thing because he knew people knew very little of their faith. He also cared for those ill and dying comforting and then performing last writes and burial services for them when they die. Willing to do all this was an easy sacrifice for Pope Pius X as he was giving it all up to God.
