Findings from a recent Ofsted report have shown that low-level disruption in the classroom is causing pupils to potentially lose up to one hour of learning each day, and that this may have a detrimental impact on their life chances (Ofsted, 2014). Difficulties managing behavior is a commonly reported source of stress and burnout among teachers, and is resulting in a substantial number leaving the profession within 5 years (Ford et al, 2012). Disruptive behaviour is not only stressful for teachers, but it can be unsettling for pupils, can hinder pupils enjoyment of school and can prevent pupils from fulfilling their potential (Gorard, 2010). Although there has never been a time when all pupils behaved well, all of the time (Viser, 2005), it is important that teachers have a good understanding of the challenges they may face in the classroom, and are equipped with effective strategies to help them manage classroom behaviour. After all, effective behaviour management and discipline in schools is a crucial to ensuring academic success and a positive and safe learning environment (Luisellia et al, 2005).

1.1 Legislation is a set of laws that have been created by the government to make sure all childcare settings are run correctly. To promote positive behaviour, legislation’s such as the Children Act 1989, Human Rights Act 1998, Every Child Matters 2004, Equality Act 2010 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 are followed by the setting. These Act’s include rules and regulations that a setting is required to follow in order to promote positive behaviour.

I chose to research the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports approach to positive reinforcement. I wanted to find out if this approach taught temporary or long-term (positive) behavioral changes. I researched this approach and compared it to the Responsive Classroom approach. In order to determine its effectiveness, I looked at referral data at Nimitz High School provided around this time this last year, and compared it to its current numbers. Every school has a positive and inclusive approach to managing behavior. We believe in encouraging behavior through a range of positive behavior management strategies. Through this positive approach we can aim to pre-empt inappropriate behavior, thus enabling us to focus on good behavior and teaching the children. We believe strongly in the importance of promoting and praising good behavior. We aim to provide care and support for our children and support them to learn how to manage their behavior appropriately.

There are many strategies to address behavior deficits in the classroom, and each behavior requires specific and individualized attention. The two case studies (Grand Canyon University, 2016) detailing the behavior issues of Doug and Ellie are prime examples of situations in which behavior intervention is necessary. This paper will discuss the particular behaviors involved and outline explicit plans for increasing positive behavior exhibited from each child.

In order to become a board certified behavior analyst it will be necessary to complete 1500 hours of supervised independent field work in order to sit for the board certification in behavior analysis. In order to receive the supervised hour’s one can acquire them by face to face or remote/online format. According to Ethical Code 5.5 Supervisors provide written and clear descriptions of the purpose, requirements, evaluation and the criteria, conditions, and terms of supervision prior to the onset of the supervision (Bailey & Burch, 2016).

My overall experience with the behavior change project was positive, as I was able to successfully change my sleeping habits. Although there were times when sticking to my behavior change plan was extremely difficult, I was able to stay on track and change my sleeping habits. As a result of my behavior change, I now feel healthier and less fatigued. Because of these physical improvements, important areas of my life, such as school and sports, have improved also. My performance in the classroom and on the basketball court has noticeably become better after making this behavior change.

I’ve been in Positive Guidance class for about eighteen days now and I’ve got to say, I would never know how to take care of a child who has mistaken behaviors if it wasn’t for this class. There are an abundant number of ways to handle a child who is out of control. To make it easier, according to Not Just Cute with Amanda Morgan blog, positive guidance is based on the belief that any means of child guidance should focus on building up a child’s self-control rather than focusing on a behavioral outcome. I have always thought of it as positively handling a child who has behavior issues. We all have different definitions that we think of when it comes to positive guidance, as well as techniques on how to deal with the student. Since I’ve started this class, I have actually used many techniques while being at my lab site.

Effective differentiated instruction reflects where the students currently are in their educational stage and not where a teacher wishes them to be. This step is important; placing students either too high or too low in the instruction can be adverse to the teacher’s goal of helping all students. Developing lesson strategies for students that are too demanding may have a negative effect on performance and reinforce negative emotions concerning learning. Likewise, developing lesson strategies that do not challenge students to perform at their best can also have a negative effect. Some students that are not engaged by a teacher's instruction are left adrift waiting for new or more stimulating material. Engaging students in the learning strategy is the key ingredient in producing active learners.

From a very early age, children begin to learn about the association between behaviors and consequences. They realize that there is always going to be a consequence whether it’d be positive or negative, that would follow the behavior. Sometimes children behave very well and most of the time, children tend to give parents and others around them a hard time. When it comes to behavior modification, some basic steps include identifying the behavior, setting expectations, monitoring progress, and reinforcing correct behaviors. I consider and know that children are the future of our world; we have to know how to teach and educate them adequately so they could be prepared to lead future generations. I consider that each child has its own way of learning; there are multiple ways in which a person could be intelligent and capable of completing tasks. I want to be able to help children with everything they need. I want to motivate them to do and be the best in every task and area, everything that they dream and think about, to persuade their dreams and never give up no matter how hard they think it is or how difficult becomes trough the way. I don’t want to be the type of teacher that goes through the school year teaching what I have to and limit my capabilities to show them things and lessons useful for their lives, I want every child that goes to my classroom, leave it at the end of the year with instructions or lessons that make them better persons. Additionally, think that it’s important to have a good balance between discipline and kindness with students, it’s important to have a good relationship with the students because in that way is easier to communicate with them; if they have any problems or trouble learning a lesson or something in the content, if they have a good communication and relationship with you, it will be easier for them to tell you about what is causing them trouble.
