As a potential counselor, I would recognize their strengths as an individuals and as a married couple. Within their strengths, I would focus on exploring their values and their expression of communication (love). Understanding that each person has a different love language or expression of communication, it would be helpful to explore this area and identify their communication (love) language. Not only is identifying their method of communication important, but learning how to express each other’s communication language is the key success. As we reach this point, hopefully we could engage in some role-playing to help execute what has been learned and to recognizing what to avoid that can be misinterpreted to what is actually being communicated.
After interviewing 3 professionals in different areas, I noticed more similarities than differences. All of these professionals have included the patient and their family members in the assessment and treatment process. According to the mental health counselor, she gathers information from the client’s family because it is crucial to their healing process. The special education teacher attends IEP meetings in which the parent can attend and provide information to help with the child’s success. Additionally, the nurse includes the client’s significant other when providing care.
Based on the analysis of the data collected for this research, academic and social assimilation was necessary to keep African American women college students in community colleges. Every mentoring relationship may differ student to student, but overall, mentoring helps students to develop self-confidence, educational goals, and the aspiration to be successful in an educational setting. As seen in the results of this survey, students thought that consulting was the most helpful service offered by the AASP, as faculty mentors were able to develop compelling relationships outside the classroom to contribute to their academic success. Students took advantage counseling sessions provided to them as 58% of students
The National Board for Certified Counselors began in1983. This examination was intended to assess knowledge of counseling information and skills. I will describe the test and its usefulness. My purpose is to evaluation the extent to which the NCE fulfills primary psychometric criteria. Comprehensive understanding of the NCE is necessary in order to pass the NCE. Collectively, this information should aid in a complete understanding of the NCE.
I think that it would be important to build a safe space for the couple to be able to communicate authentically about the issues at hand. To accomplish this, I would try to make a list collaboratively with couple in what safety means for them while in therapy. The list will then become the ground rules for the continuation of the therapy. From there, I would take some time to establish “I” statements as a way to communicate issues from the perspective of the person who is talking about a relational issue. Taking turns while talking would be another ground rule that I would establish as they appear to talk over each other during emotional moments. Talking with respect would be another rule to establish in order to allow the couple to listen to each other.

Research in the field of couples and family counseling is very limited, one of the many reasons for this is the lack of governmental funding and the fact that relational issues are not view as diagnosable mental illnesses. It is important to note that what little research exists will be of great use to a practitioner. This is because what we can learn from this research is the factors of satisfied/unsatisfied couples/families, communication patterns of a satisfied/distressed couple/family, or if marriage/divorce rates are projected to grow/shrink.

Upon embarking on my professional development project, I knew that it was important to select a Licensed Professional Counselor that was truly passionate about the field of counseling. I am fortunate to have a relationship with an Executive Director of a Counseling Center, whom referred me to Stephanie Featherston, LPC. I am grateful for this relationship with the Executive Director as I embark on my journey in counseling. I learned that Stephanie specialized in traumatology, a specialization that I did not know much about. This intrigued me greatly and was my inspiration in selecting her as my interviewee.
The essential counseling skills begin with sequencing the intake to create a coherent process in obtaining information from Maria so she can accurately acquire information in a coherent and conscious manner. Jackson-Cherry & Erford (2014) clarify how counselors should use their fundamental counseling microskills to immediately construct an alliance-building to connect with their client who may arrive in a positive or negative emotional arousal state of mind.
The school counselor uses the test scores to determine whether or not the comprehensive school counseling program made an impact on the students. The school counselor also use the scores to help better the counseling program at the school and to determine which areas need more work. The school counselor also share the results with the stakeholders. Looking at the example given the results from the pre test and the post test the lesson on bullying awareness worked. The purpose of testing is to see improvements. In the pre test, the scores were lower than the post test which is a good. The lesson on bullying seemed to change the students mind because the scores were higher on the post test. The percent of change for the last question was 60%.
To assist in helping the counselors in determining what aspects in the couple’s relationship that need addressed is by applying a triage assessment. This can help the counselor gain more information about the client’s situation and what resource

Gaining the trust of your client is important when counseling. I agree with applying vocational counseling because it will educate her with legalities of being discrimination of disabilities. Often, humans feel that situations are wrong and unjust but remained uneducated to the possibilities of being able to receive help within the situation. Depending on that particular situation and the individual some situations could lead to depression, discouragement, and feelings of worthlessness. Such as people with disabilities that may feel they are facing discrimination. Although, a counselor would need to become aware of the depression, discouragement, and feelings of worthlessness and the causes of the symptoms so that they can properly address
As a potential counselor, there are different reasons why I choose this journey to be a helper, servant and a leader. Not only was my early experiences in life a stepping stone towards this path, but my faith in God and the realities of life led me as well. Even though I am still creating my future towards this goal, there is no doubt that I am called to be in servitude to others. In this journey, I am appreciating the learning fundamentals I have gained from the academic coursework, professionals/teachers and experience that I have encountered to be molded into a multicultural competent counselor. By taking advantage of this opportunity of learning, I have chosen a theoretical orientation that best suits me as a potential clinician according to my beliefs, values and logical thinking. It is also noteworthy to indicate that the self-awareness of my beliefs, values, interests and thought process has been further explored due to the assessments and activities of the Life Story Board, Meyer-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Strong Interest Inventory (SII), My Career Story, and Career Genogram, including a reflection of my spiritual walk with Christ.
