President Lincoln was born February 12, 1809. He as born in Hodgenville, KY. His parents Thomas & Nancy Hanks Lincoln. He had a sister and her name was Sarah. He married Mary Todd Lincoln; they had 4 children named Robert, Edward, William, and Thomas. Lincoln’s formal education began in a log cabin. While the Lincoln family was living on Knob Creek, he and his sister Sarah attended ABC schools for a short period of time. He served as President from February 12, 1861 – April 15, 1865. Lincoln was the 16th President to serve the United States. Lincoln was able to serve 1 term in the republican party. While Lincoln was president Andrew Johnson was Vice President. There are many things that happened while Lincoln was President . On 02/07/1861: Confederate States of America organized. The southern States did not want Lincoln to be President. They did not agree with his policies. Before he was officially in office they began to Secede (leave the country). The first state to leave was South Carolina. Soon after 6 more states followed and together they formed a new Country called the Confederate. This all happened before Lincoln took oath of office. 03/11/1861: Confederate Congress adopts Confederate Constitution. On April 12, 1861 while President Lincoln was in office the Civil War took place. 04/14/1865: Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth President Lincoln was at The Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C.. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 and died on April 15, 1865. He was born near Hodgenville, Kentucky. His parents were Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. He also had a older sister named Sarah and a younger brother named Thomas. Due to a land dispute, his family moved to Perry County, Indiana when he was 7. Lincoln had little formal education, but was an avid reader. Lincoln's mother died when he was only 9 due to milk sickness. She died at age 34. After this, Lincoln grew very depressed and resented the labor his father gave him. A few months after Lincoln's mother's death, his father married a widow named Sarah Bush Johnston. She had 3 children of her own. Lincoln bonded with her and grew happy again.

April 15, 1865 was a highly anticipated evening at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. President Abraham Lincoln, along with Vice President Andrew Johnson and Secretary of State William Seward were scheduled to attend a showing of Our American Cousin. This enjoyable gathering soon turned to tragedy for the American leaders. In the middle of the performance, shots were fired and blood was shed while the unassuming audience sat oblivious to the events unfolding. John Wilkes Booth executed his scheme to assassinate President Lincoln, one of the most important and influential men in American history, who inspired the masses with his unexpected rise to power.
It is hard not to agree with David Herbert Donald in his biography of Abraham Lincoln. He does his best to not give his professional opinion of anything and only writes about the topics from which he has proof of. The main ideas that the author has throughout the text is greatly supported with Lincoln’s own papers and from written first-hand accounts of his generation. Donald accounts for the changes of position on slavery and the equality of blacks throughout his presidency. I think that this book is a great depiction of Abrahams Lincoln’s life.
Some people recall him as honest Abe, but he was not just that. Abraham Lincoln’s presidency impacted America and the people living there. Although he was raised on a farm, he grew up to be a wonderful leader and president. Abraham contained many great qualities such as dedication, kindhearted, and knowledge.

Hofstadter is an author who criticizes many historians. In the book, “In The American Political Tradition” Hofstadter does nothing but criticize different historians. One particular historian he challenges in his writings is Abraham Lincoln. According to Hofstadter, Abraham Lincoln was “the exemplar of the self-made man,” he was a very humble man that easily pleased the people and easily attained very high political ranking, as well as success and a lot of power. Abraham Lincoln’s flaws as a president were often overlooked because many Americans felt as if he brought to life what is known to be the great American dream. McPherson stated, "Abraham had a desire for learning and ambition for self-improvement; he devoured every book he could borrow from friends and neighbors"(3). When Lincoln was about 19 he used to bring produce from rivers in Ohio and Mississippi to New Orleans.

Although he only had 3 months of military service he led the United States through the civil war. His sister Sarah died at the age of 20 and his brother didn’t live for more than 3 days. Due to his bad eyesight, Thomas Lincoln would make his son do the majority of the work. When he could, Abraham Lincoln would spend his free time reading books far into the night. Lincoln did not have much education due to being a poor farmer, but was very intellectual and known for his honesty. At age 21, due to health and financial problems, Thomas Lincoln again moved his family, this time to Illinois.
