Program: Promotion of stretching in cubicles to decrease health concerns
Target Audience: Employees
Company: Caption-Call, Sorensen 's Company
Recent studies have shown a linkage between long periods of sitting down with common health status. These health concerns consist of; obesity, metabolic syndrome, increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, abnormal cholesterol levels, cardiovascular disease, mental health, and work-related Musculoskeletal Disorder disease. All of mentioned can lead to and increase the risk of death. According to the World Health Organization, in 2012 the leading cause of death was cardiovascular disease. In 2014, more than 1.9 billion adults, were overweight and over 600 million were obese (WHO, 2015), and

Employee 's should be encouraged to report and participate in the program provide for their benefit. During a team meeting the following should be discussed; health concerns, prevention methods, and legal documentation of the knowledge provide for future reference so the company is protected by legal records.
Furthermore, the resolution to this dilemma simple; stretching is a form of physical exercise in which specific muscle groups is deliberately flexed or stretched to improve muscle elasticity and to achieve comfortable muscle tone (Dictionary, 2015). If Employer 's provide employees with light stretches which they can perform at their cubicles when off calls risks of health concerns will decrease within time. Here are some of the benefits from stretching.
Benefits of Stretching:
• Stretching increases blood supply and nutrients to joint structures/soft tissues.
• Stretching reduces fatigue.
• Stretching improves muscle coordination.
• Stretching increases joint synovial fluid which reduces joint degeneration.
• Stretching realigns soft tissue structures, which help maintain good posture in activities of daily living.
(Ergonomics Plus, 2015)
Risk Factors:
• Employee 's Health.
• Company Ethics if risk factors are known and the solution is not provided.
• Legal prosecution.
• Lack of efficacy and accuracy on calls because of health concerns (back pain, head-aches, carpal
* A stretch reflex is a contraction of a muscle when an attached tendon is pulled. Stretch reflexes are important in maintaining proper posture. Stretch reflexes are used to determine which areas of the body the central nervous system are not responding to. For example, if you tap your knee to check for reflex and the leg doesn’t move, you then know that the peripheral nerves that lead to the knee are nonresponsive and/or the brain is not receiving a signal from that particular area.

True enough, relaxing at the working office is less challenging when compared with walking, biking, or traversing difficult trails. Due to the sedentary lifestyle of several people, their bodies greatly suffer. According to studies, back pain is an extremely common condition and almost all of today’s workforce is experiencing it. While using cool atmosphere provided by the air-conditioning systems and limited body movements, the physical is
The World Health Organization (2018) estimates that 1 in 4 adults are putting themselves at risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia, depression and premature death. Tremblay et al. (2017) defines sedentary behaviour as activities with a very low energy expenditure such as sitting, sleeping and watching TV.
This data shows that both males and females are spending too much time being sedentary. This is a big issue and has been seen to cause increased rates of obesity, diabetes, cancer and heart disease later in life.
Increases in this type of behaviour has been associated with significant increases in the risk of developing chronic diseases with an increase of 112% relative risk of diabetes being reported by Wilmot et al (2012). A significant amount of research is now being conducted into the effect that prolonged sitting, as a sedentary behaviour, has on the risk of type-2 diabetes. The main effect of sitting idle for a prolonged amount of time is that the muscles required for upright movement such as the legs, back and truck, become redundant. The result of this is that we consequently decrease the energy expended as result of intermittent muscular contractions throughout the waking day (Hamilton et al 2007). One particular study found that an increase in 1 hour of television watching in which the participants would be seated, there was a 26% increase in the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in women (Dunstan et al 2005). Bed rest studies have also been used to assess the affects of prolonged inactivity in relation to insulin action and glucose
INCREASES FLEXIBILITY AND CIRCULATION: Providing a gentle stretch to the tendons and ligaments in the
Lengthy periods of absence of movement by excessive duration of sitting down can cause body aches, create stiff muscles, change mental health, and can cause Musculoskeletal Disorder disease. Creating a sense of motion in the muscles can prevent/relieve these symptoms and even stress. Stretching is the straightening or extending from the body or a specific part of the body to its full length. This activity has been proven to help alleviate symptoms of the health concerns listed above by increasing blood supply and nutrients to joint structures and soft tissues and reducing stress/fatigue. The benefits of stretching are multitudinous. It has wellness advantages in areas of physical, mental, and emotional state. By introducing a program that promotes cubicle stretching it will create a prevention guide for
This causes these muscles to become stronger. When this happens, you’re posture is affected. The body is not aligned correctly which may cause injury down the road. Many simple routines of stretching can correct this misalignment and make you feel much better.
I generally use static stretching on my own. I do not go a gym or participate in any exercise routine. In the morning while getting ready for work. This help prepare my body for the drive and daily movement. Throughout the day I stretch my thigh muscles, since I wear high heels. Sometimes I take off my shoes and stretch my calf muscles. During high school the gym teachers would always incorporate ballistic stretching into the class. While it did not hurt, I was scared I would tear something. I think starting to include dynamic (functional) stretching as one ages would help to maintain stability as they grow older. As people age they lose some of the balance and this would help at least keep their body prepared for movements. This stretch
This will allow for increased spending in other areas of our company, creating a more productive budget. In addition, participation in the Wellness Program will provide employees that are able to work more often and more efficiently. This will undoubtedly increase productivity and decrease turnover. With 39,000 employees in the United States and 30 foreign nations, it is imperative that we maintain healthy and productive employees. Because of these significant benefits, it is crucial that we maintain and improve participation in the program. However, there are several concerns that may hinder such participation: 1. Despite Whirlpool’s guarantee of confidentiality, many employees do not trust the company with such private information. a. Employees have expressed their fear in the use of the information. They are concerned that their health status may negatively affect their position in the company. b. Although it is assured that no records are kept, employees fear the leak of private health information to their peers. If information was leaked, they fear the effects on their reputation and social standing within the company. 2. In order for the new addition to our program to be successful, it is important that we stress the benefits to our current employees. a. If our employees do not
In the article “Killer Chairs” author James Levine proposes that sitting all day can cause various health issues. When a person moves, most of the food consumed will be converted into energy instead of being stored as fat, and a lack of movement can create various health issues like obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc. One of the author’s clients was 50 pounds overweight and was going to have to start insulin injections for his diabetes. The client was advised to conduct two of his meetings a day through walking, instead of sitting in a meeting room; this simple change would enable him to burn 400 additional calories per day. The client took the author’s advice and lost 25 pounds the first year, and 10 more pounds the following year and
As for the sit-stand desks, Samatakis (2017) agrees that they could be a starting point for the unfit sedentary workers. However, he laments the desks are not of much solution because there is not much energy expending or exertion from the people who use them. People tend to become less active physically, especially after work thinking they did their part already for having used the sit-stand desks at the office work place. Samatikis suggestion in tackling this problem is, if one does not want to walk, cannot walk, exercise or cycle, a useful option would be to reduce amount of spent sitting time. To experience reduced same risks of mortality from heart diseases, cancers when one exercises at least once or twice a week, there must be many hours cut back a day from sitting.
I feel I am in pretty good condition for a woman my age. Even though flexibility is not a problem, I know I still have muscles pain issues. Like most females the neck and shoulders are a problem. And out of every aspect of being flexible, the muscle group I need most work on is my neck, and shoulders. This is where most tension is held, and tension is cause by tightening muscles. That is why I see a chiropractor and exercise, need to do more stretching. I do think that stretching is something I need to incorporate daily. I stretch before working out, but it is not to the extent it should be. All stretching benefits the body one way of another, but the ones I will continue to do is the trunk twist, leg hug, and the inter thigh stretch. The ones
