Radio and Primetime TV Censorship
Media Censorship vs. Non Media Censorship, Censorship and Non Censorship is about what information the public will have access too. What is “Censorship”? (Restriction, suppression, control cutting, editing, bowdlerization, and expurgation) basically it is the lack of freedom to do or say what you choose to express about a particular topic of interest. The Media is censored by the government, our Laws and supposedly by ordinary people but they have limited access or power. What does the word “Media” mean? ( Broadcast, spread, proliferation, circulation, transmission) My position on this topic is that I believe it is necessary to have Media Censorship.
We have censorship so

Whether the agenda is good or bad the Media should be a neutral platform. Now day we have Reality TV like “Naked and Afraid” even though nudity is the feature point it would be a bad idea to have it on day time TV after Sesame. Imagine your 8 year old kid tuning in to (Howard Stern). His format is for adult and provides and share adult topics to its audience. Should he be censored or does he have the right to view his view thru the media? Or the many other Reality Shows that are guilty of promoting Sex and Violence to get top …show more content…
This is one example where the media should not but can sway the public opinion to trust a candidate by not sharing pertinent information about that candidate’s character. Media was use to help Mussolini, Hitler and a few others gain control. There is good media where censorship is not necessary. Shows and media that the purpose is to educate, Some shows that are geared toward children like Walt Disney Classics, Cooking Shows, Health and Welfare TV. The media does have ratings to help gauge the content, this is not always effective but it is better than nothing. Censorship boards allow the movie / documentary / television series to be viewed although blurring or cutting out the explicit part are suppose make viewing
Although we, as citizens of this country, are guaranteed freedom of speech and press by the first amendment, we are encouraged to “watch what we say”. In order to avoid unnecessary violence and to keep people from being offended, it is recommended the certain things be censored. While many may look at this censorship as a well-needed percussion it can reversely be seen as going against one's first amendment rights, in itself causing controversy.
If information "given" to us is filtered and improperly fluffed, how are we then left to analyze it appropriately and utilize it to our benefit as a learning experience or as an opportunity to analyze a situation or event without the clouding of censorship involved. With expecting writers to censor themselves as far as what they write is preposterous. Many individuals have so much within their minds that would be and could be beneficial for us as a part or whole to read, review or see on television that may dissuade us from a prejudice or situation, or allow us as humans to think things through, hopefully objectively, or even subjectively, without censorship.
My standpoint is we should be able to view the censorship of the material at our own discretion and ethical standards. An example in today’s history would be “Hulk Hogan’s sex tape… leaked to the internet”(TMZ). This event took place online meaning that it was uncensored and accessible to the entire public eye. People argued whether or not it should be removed or censored, however, it remained uncensored. In this scenario keeping the video uncensored is within the limitations of censorship because the people had the option to view the video or not. However, this might be hurting someone’s personal privacy but since the tape was leaked we the people should have better morals to decide to whether or not we can view the video or not. So, censorship is in the hands of the beholder and the beholder's mentality of ethics whether or not to view the material that is showcased in mass media. “Hulk Hogan's sex tape was just leaked to the internet and it's
Censorship is a concept with several different meanings. To each individual censorship has its own meaning. Is it a violation of our rights or is it a protection for our well being? Censorship in the generic sense refers to the suppression of information, ideas, or opinions. It occurs in all forms of communication from technological media to print media. Each society, culture, or individual's belief is violated by the codes of censorship that our society instills.
Censorship on television in the United States has been an issue ever since the television was invented. The public holds a variety of stances on the topic, and no matter what law is ever passed regarding censorship, it will never suit the needs of everyone. Some believe that censorship violates individual rights in the law, and others believe that censorship should be available through members in the family, not the government. On the other hand, some people strive to maintain government regulation of censorship. Television censorship is significant because it holds the future of our country. If channels continue to be censored, our rights will be violated. If not, then the future generations may change
Censorship within the United States is not only an immoral and "big-brotherly" practice, but also an insult to each and every one of those who call themselves US citizens. Every day, censors attempt to sanitize TV, radio, music, print, and even the Internet. In their infinite wisdom, they deem what should and should not be viewed by John Q. Public. Censors succeed in suppressing our free spirits and restraining our thoughts in virtually every medium.
The media could be determined a tremendous and powerful weapon. If used properly, it can provide society with great benefits, but if used in negative ways, it can destroy. In a modern world where information can spread as fast as wildfires, a reason to monitor or limit types of media appear rational, but along with that, irrational cases still exist. This argument has circled in the United States for a while and a decision needs to be made. Parents and citizens around the United States think concerningly about what our eyes witness on the news, in stores, on billboards, etc. When the government determines what appears in the media, it not only belittles citizens, but it denies the First Amendment, which states the basic rights of an American. Censorship of the media, as displayed in 1984, clearly exhibits the violation of the First Amendment, rightfully given to the citizens of the United States, by the founding fathers of this country.
Censorship on the news for example if someone was shot and the victim's face was blacked out and his voice was hanged so we could not recognize him that’s censorship.’’Anti groups have been getting books banned by governments because parents don’t like the violence and it talking about history because they want to hide the from their children and not only their children the whole school too’’.The School of Mississippi got the book to kill a mockingbird banned.’’Parents made that happen by complaining about the book and how they did not want any child to read the book kill a mockingbird’’. Censorship is unnecessary because hides the truth in what really happened in the actual events and how we can learn
Over the years, talk radio censorship has become a bigger issue. The FCC (The Federal Communications Commission) has become a large part in regulating the business of talk radio due to the fact that some people impose on some of the topics or language used during the broadcasts. Many people find them offensive and should not be allowed to be broadcasted without some type of notification that it is going on or is inappropriate for children or just in general. The censorship of talk radio has become a large issue with broadcasters having “special rights” during airing, “special rights” meaning broadcasting openly about any topic, and this could be solved by not giving people who broadcast stations this power.
There are various reasons as to why censorship is used. They include: security purposes, prevent hate speech, to protect vulnerable communities and also to counter unethical religious and political views. Censorship is currently being used for both political and social purposes. Most of these reasons for censorship are not absolute because they hinder people’s freedom of expression and speech. This confirms my argument that censorship is bad in the modern world. Despite some aspects considering censorship to be good, there are several aspects that promote my argument that censorship is bad thus its advantageous nature.
What is Censorship? Censorship is the examination, supervision, and/or control of information and ideas within access of the general
Censorship may be protection from inappropriate materials, but it also limits free speech. For the limitation of free speech, it is reasonable why people are emphatically against censorship. It is understood that there is a need to filter some of the materials released in today’s society, but too much is being done by people who have no right meddling with everyone’s rights. Civilization has always been plagued by a never ending battle being fought over what is deemed right and wrong. In today’s culture, censorship oppresses everything in the media. From movies and music to television and even news stories, most of the content viewed today has been filtered one way or another. Restrictions have been in place since early societies have been
Media has become a powerful source of knowledge, and a great breakthrough in human history. Who can regret that media is a daily need in our lives. Media has the ability and control to adjust to all levels of knowledge in people. Media helps us to escape from our daily lives and our problems in times of stress. Thou Media as proved to be beneficial by educating, entertaining and informing us, it has also have its downfall, to cause many bad influences to the younger audience. Media has influenced us to conduct bad behavior, breed violence among teens and fear to the public, thus causing a lot of negative conflicts among ourselves. Television, Music, Internet, and more, are just some of the media exposure that needs to be censored and
The parameters of the term censorship have been changed and manipulated very much over the years. Television and movie ratings have become more lenient against violence and indiscretion because these things are now seen as entertainment. Is this appropriate for our youth? Should children be exposed to these images so early on? How does censorship in the media affect adolescents? Children are the future of our society and need to have some understanding of real world occurrences. Ultimately, censorship can only be determined by the parents. The media cannot filter every bit of controversial images. What rights does the media have in this situation? How are their First Amendment rights applied here? As an aspiring political science
Freedom of expression, and open access to media, are as fundamental to the survival of Progress as the sun and rain are to the survival of planet Earth. Yet censorship remains a traditional response of any group that finds itself offended at another's message or creative indulgence.
