Professionalism in the Workplace Nursing is a career that requires professionalism. This is an important concept because it illustrates the idea of how we can provide patient centered care. This could be accomplished by providing safe care, within the scope of practice. (William & Hopper, 2015) Nurses are people that are compassionate and caring. But we should understand that we must maintain our boundaries and prevent over involvement. (Valfre, 2013) In addition, coordinating and communicating with staff members is an important key factor for the professional nurse. (Potter & Perry, Stockert & Hall, 2015) Patient centered care is provided because we want to maintain the focus on the person who needs help. (Williams & Hopper, 2015) For example, before this nursing program, I thought communicating with the patient helps them feel more comfortable. Even though this is the correct idea, there are more reasons why this is necessary. This is when I learned about the concept map. According to Potter & Perry, “Concept map provides a visual representation of the complex level of thinking that nurses require”. (Potter et al.., 2015) This explains to me that we must know the whole idea before we take an action. The concept map explained to me how we can categorize problems that a patient is experiencing. After that, we will use our knowledge and put accurate data that is associated with the problems. (Potter et al.., 2015) When we figure out what are the problems the patient is
