Psychological Impacts of Counseling

Counseling is used for many different reasons. These reasons vary from individual issues to group issues. People go to counseling seeking help with whatever internal problems they are having in their lives. For some, counseling helps and changes their lives completely, for others it does not. I have always enjoyed talking to people about their problems and that is why I chose psychology as my major. I want to understand the reason it works for certain people and not others. Therefore, I will be conducting my research on the cognitive differences of counseling on certain patients. Throughout my life I have experienced many situations where counseling did help. It really is amazing how much we have going on inside our brains that cause us to be who we are, and do the things we do. Moreover, I really hope to explain my topic to the best of my abilities and answer any questions that there might be. I have a few questions of my own that I also plan to answer with further research:
Is age and gender a determining factor whether counseling helps or not?
Do people who seek counseling usually say that it helped?
What are the psychological pros and cons of counseling?
Since counseling is not something everyone finds appealing, I want to explain why it should or should not be used and give people a new eye opener for themselves. I understand that it makes some people feel bad about themselves if they have to get counseling, or some people think they are not that troubled enough for it. This reason being, I want to be able to change that perspective, because just maybe counseling could help change their lives for the better no matter how big or small the
