Some schools have enough money to pay the athletes, so why not pay them. According to an article on Debate.org, “Pros get paid to represent their team and make fame to that team,” (Debate 1). championships. US the viewers, the fans, the spectators, we are paying the NCAA to see our favorite players play the games they love because the want to. They aren't getting paid anything, besides saving them lots of money for college. NPR asked their twitter this question “Should student-athletes be paid?” People that said no said this because if they are good enough to play pro then they will make millions of dollars. If they leave the college with a degree and being known in that area for the sport then they might have some luck finding a job. Although this might be true, there is also the struggle of some school not being able to pay all the athletes It all depends on the school you are going to, because if only a couple of schools are paying their athletes than the student athletes of the other school will get frustrated with that school. College athletes should be paid because of the hard work, dedication and effort they put into their respective sports. These athletes are a major source of income for their schools and they are not receiving a penny for it. These college athletes deserved to be paid, colleges are using these athletes to get money and they are never given anything but a pat on the back and a good job. College athletes work and train extremely hard to perform at the highest level possible. In most cases, they spend more time training and preparing for their sport than they actually do learning and studying. They put so much on the line to play and they get nothing in return. These college athletes literally make their schools millions of dollars every
One of the most important reasons why college athletes should not be paid is that most schools just simply can not afford to pay their athletes. Maxwell Strachan from the Huffington post reported that spokeswomen Meghan Durham from the NCAA stated that only about twenty colleges make more money on athletic programs than they spend on athletic programs. This shows that most colleges are not making any money off of their athletic programs and even if a college makes a

Playing a sport in college can make the players more likely to go to the pros. However it could also be a bad thing because the player could be likely to be injured while playing in the sport and ruining their whole career. The articles “College Athletes getting paid?” by Tiffany Patterson (2017), “Should college athletes be paid”by ??? 58 percent of people believe that college athletes should get paid to play compared to the 42 percent who think they should not get paid to play (Debate.org). This clashing of whether or not college athletes should get paid to play has been a hot topic throughout the nation for quite some time. Many believe that paying players will not help the players, but will cause more negative energy than positive. Of course all college athletes believe they should be paid because they are looking to make some type of profit for bringing in so much money into the school. Not only are they bringing in money for the school they are also creating a good image for the school and getting the schools name out there. Maybe even interest other young athletes
In today’s society, one of the big controversies with sports is, should student athletes be be paid a salary? Some people believe that they should be paid and others would completely disagree. Even though they technically are being paid, they really are not. The only type of way the athletes would be paid is through financial aid or if they have a job. Only their education is being paid by the school. Although some people believe that they should be paid, it would not be a good idea at all. So college athletes should not be paid at all because they are basically being paid to study and play a sport.
College Athletes Should Be Paid! There’s been a heated debate about college athletes getting paid. A college may be a degree-awarding educational institution, a part of a collegiate university, or an institution offering vocational education. The college sport industry is worth over $11 billion dollars. All College athletes needs to be paid because college athletes struggle to make ends meet.
The first reason that athletes should be paid is that most of the money that a school makes comes from the athletes. Profits should be shared among those that actually do most of the work. A writer for Huffington Post writes, “As Rodney Fort, a sports economist and professor of sports management at the University of Michigan, succinctly put it, ‘The money is already there.’ The NCAA alone brought in nearly a billion dollars in revenue in its most recent financial year, and top-tier athletic programs regularly bring in tens of millions of dollars as well.(Strachan, 2015).” This quote states that the NCAA makes enough money and they can afford to pay their players. But aside from being affordable, what is also worth noting is that all current school athletes receive zero financial compensation for playing. Sports injuries are a real risk that these athletes take on every day. It is a risk that is not financially compensated by the school. A writer for Business Insider states, “In 2014, the ten schools that made the most money in college sports averaged $144.8 million in athletics revenue, $132.5 million more than the average those schools spent on scholarships, $12.4 million.(Gaines, 2015).” This quote states another reason why college athletes should be paid: schools make much more money than they spend on scholarships and the schools should use the remaining money to pay their players. Instead of using that money, they set that money aside to help pay for high administration salary and raises. Most of the
Should college athletes be paid? They should because athletes have been raising millions and millions of dollars for there school and they don't receive near as money as they raise for the school. College athletes practice more than than the average american works. College athletes raise millions of dollars in revenue for there school and they don't profit for all the hard work and money they raise for there school. While the NCAA a billion dollar industry take advantage of the young college athletes. College athletes should be paid for all the hard work they put into their sport and all the money they earn for their school.
Pro athletes get paid because they are professional athletes. Playing is their job. Professional sports have many money problems. For example they go on strike because of money. If college players were to get paid wouldn't the athletes do things like go on strike? Athletes would want more money than they are receiving and they would be many of these types of problems. In other words they would be very greedy.
My stance is that collage athletes should be paid to play sports. My reasoning for wanting these college athletes to get paid is because they aren't allowed to have a job while playing a college sport. Think of all the things they need, food, clothes, school materials, and possibly money to pay for their housing. You can make the argument that college student on scholarship have their education and a lot of times housing is paid for by the college. While that may be true for some college athletes, not all college athletes having their housing provided for them. Even still, we can all agree there is more daily expenses incurred in our day to day living. Not allowing college students to get payed is making it hard for them.
The biggest question in collegiate sports right now is should players get paid to play? Some argue it would destroy the amateurism in collegiate sports. If they are paid then they should be considered professionals. Others say it would help the students be able to support themselves while they are in college. They are getting a free education from a top university isn’t that enough? No and that’s why I say yes and that collegiate athletes should get paid to play sports because money is being made from the use of their talents and exploitation of their likeness.
eves that college athletes are already paid, not with money but with education. College athletes don’t have to worry about student loans, paying for textbooks, the cost of on-campus living, and meal plans, which is a huge advantage. Even though they’re college students that doesn’t mean they will be responsible with their money. Besides there are plenty of of athletes in college that would love to still play the sport they are very much dedicated to, even if they’re not getting paid.
Why college Athletes should get paid. The NCAA is very strict on students getting any type of compensation and endorsement of any type. This rule has been challenged multiple times ,but the NCAA just ignores the idea of paying their college athletes. The universities that these students attend usually get a quarter billion dollars in endorsements and can’t be shared with students that are attending the school. This is saying that the NCAA is one of the top industries receiving money.
I'm going to represent to you the side of the argument that does not feel like college athletes should be paid. The first argument is that student-athletes already received scholarships and other benefits. As stated in text “While not all student-athletes are on scholarship, many are, particularly those who are playing for schools we see winning National Championships. In addition to free tuition and room and board, these college athletes also often receive stipends to help towards books and other basic needs.” So with help towards tuition and textbooks and essentials, student-athletes shouldn't need the extra money to get through college, mainly because the funds used for their tuition and dorms and textbooks don't need to be paid back to the
There are many reasons why college athletes should get paid. Many people will agree and disagree with the argument of should athletes get paid why or why not. The main reasons may include finical help to pay for college to teach athletes how to manage money and how to be wise with little money, not having enough money can hold players back from finishing college, and finally the amount of money going into the program should be shared with the athletes as they are the reason for the money coming in. Going to college and being a student athlete is never easy and the ways to help them is by paying them to help them get through school and succeed.
