Syrian Refugee Crisis
International Response:
People are starting to question whether or not they want Syrians living in their country due to all the terrorist attack, threats etc.
Canadians do not like this idea.
Believe that the Liberals and the Canadian government should be focusing more on Canada’s problems other than foreign problems.
Canada is already to become overpopulated and there are already 1,364,800 people(approx.) unemployed in Canada so if more people immigrate to Canada than more people will be unemployed. The unemployment rate increased by 12,500 to 1,364,800, while employment decreased by 35,700 to 17,986,800, after four straight months of job gains.
Canadians who voted for the Liberals are not questioning their vote and

Canadians are starting to realize that this is a very large amount of immigrants and is a very hard goal to meet.
Refugees will be angry we didn't keep our promise. Refugees will start to think that Canada is not the place to immigrate to.
Take a smaller number to test whether it is going to work or not.
Pros:
If it goes well maybe people will start to accept refugees and more will be able to come also could change the way people look at Syrians.
Cons:
Refugees still don't get the number we promised.
If it does not go well then people will be totally against refugees coming into Canada and this will affect future refugees coming.
Take other kinds of refugees.
There are so many other countries other than Syria that have problems with their governments or are living in poverty.
I see ads all the time about giving unfortunate kids in Africa clean water well then why don’t we bring africans to Canada and help them. I am not saying that Syrians are bad people and we should just ignore them because they aren’t they are human beings just like we are but I think that we should get more diversity after all Canada is one of the most diverse countries.
Set up 'special economic zones' refugee
People all over the world have been asking themselves if it is right for their country to let in refugees from Syria. It is a question everybody fears from answering because of the consequences it may take. Several states in America have denied the entry because of security reasons and the over population. Even if there are several countries still refusing Syrians there are a few who are accepting them. Looking at some articles, I’ve seen differential opinions and one must read and understand why Syria refugees need a chance to be rescued from all the chaos and horror they’ve been through.
Canada is well known for its size. It has the same size as China, yet it has about thirty times as less people. Inviting the refugees to Canada helps increase the country’s population and fill the empty space in the northern territories and the maritime provinces. Furthermore, the elderly population has been increasing dramatically in Canada, which means more retirements have been occurring. Thus, refugees will also help to fill empty workplaces, as Daniel Tencer states “Atlantic Canada has been facing low population growth and an aging workforce for years, and some business leaders there are pushing to make sure the region
These refugees are fleeing from their home countries with nothing but the clothes on their back and desperation. Canada does not have border problems as many countries in Europe do. EU countries have been having thousands of illegal refugees crossing their borders, leading to many logistic problems and tension between countries. Canada does not have this issue due to the giant Atlantic Ocean distancing us from Syria. However, the Canadian Government along with Canadian NGO’s, individual Canadians and private funds have assisted in bringing 33,000 refugees to Canada in the last
Other countries such as the United States of America has welcomed refugees with open arms, with this they had an outbreak of refugee industries. They had employed 3000 workers, however, Canada was not welcoming to refugees especially the Jews, because they thought they had nothing to offer which was not true because many refugees brought work and new customers. In an editorial, The Globe and Mail, June 19, 1939, it states,
Syria’s civil war is the worst humanitarian crisis of modern time. The “Syrian Civil war Began in March of 2011, between rebel brigades and government force; economy and infrastructure is destroyed” (Library, 2016). “Divisions between secular and religious fighters, and between ethnic groups, continue to complicate the politics of the conflict” (Corps, 2016). Additionally, the Syrian civil war has taken a significant
We all know the obvious that if there is more people in the country there is going to be more jobs that will be taken, as for the united states Since 1975, more than 3 million refugees have been admitted and resettled in the united states, we all know that some people may feel that the united states is big enough to have refugees but The reason why I feel this way is because 3 million would be not good for housing and for money reasons and all sorts of things because there is 3 million people that have entered the united states and now they have to have a place to live for them making it where all of those refugees having to stay in houses meaning the houses will be getting taken but not only that they
Canada has always been recognized as an accepting and “go-to” country in crisis. However, in recent years, there have been changes. Refugee legislation has become extremely strict, qualifications for refugees have become unfair, and limitations regarding what Canada offers refugees have been set.
Many immigrants decide to come to Canada in search of new beginnings without the fear of being
In 1962, many new regulations were created that removed most limits on who can and cannot come to Canada. Though Canada’s government preferred British and European immigrants because they could adapt easier, in 1967, Canada’s legislation became “colour-blind”- and did’t use the colour, ethnicity, or cultural background as factors to determine the immigrant’s status on becoming Canadian or not. Instead they used a point-system that was based on one’s education and employment prospects. For that reason, only certain amount of training for specific skills and tasks would have to take place for them. On the other hand, refugees were constantly coming to Canada- such as the 11,000 refugees that came in 1968 after the Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia.
The leader of the official Federal opposition party NDP, Mr. Mulcair, began fervently critiquing the IRPA policies that were being endorsed by the Conservative Immigration Minister Mr. Chris Alexander in 2015. Trudeau and his liberal allies also raised concerns about the Tory’s party’s political position in regards to accepting refugees. Members of the Parliament were not the only ones expressing their concerns about Canada’s lack of initiative in providing a safe haven to the Syrian refugees fleeing horrendous
Every year, newcomers arrive in Canada carrying colourful expectations and excitements. Their contribution to our population, national growth, and workforces are important. Currently, we are experiencing a decline in population. As a result, the capability of national growth decreases. As educated, financially qualified and employable immigrants enter Canada, our labour market earns a chance to improve. The distribution of potentials benefits immigrants and citizens, regarding our multiculturalism and economy. Canada needs immigrants as much as immigrants need Canada. Therefore, annual immigration levels in Canada must be increased. “Canada is an association of peoples who have, and cherish, great differences, but work together because they can respect themselves and each other,” (Massey).1
The Canadian governments has made policies to prevent the quality and number of immigrants every year. The immigration process for my family was overall successfully; we started first by preparing a lot of complex and detailed documents for everyone in the family. Endless waiting began as soon as we presented the application. The quota is very limited and competition is always very strong. Make up of additional documents and interview were often required and the chance to be rejected is very big, therefore we were under a lot of
Many immigrants come to Canada each year in order to make a better living. It is not easy to move to a new country and start a new life in a new environment hence, newcomers go through different emotions. According to the Government of Canada, Canadian population is approximately 31 million
I think that Canada has a lot on its plate right now. There are a lot of conflicts that must be resolved before accepting a vast amount of Syrians into our country. The fact that Canada’s younger generation cannot find employment in their own country is terrifying. This might also be the leading cause for our population rate to be rather low. Young Canadians are probably afraid to raise a family of their own since their resources, like daycare, might be very costly. Also, the elder who help build Canada into the country we know as today, get a very small pension. It’s quite sad in the sense that I feel like Canada isn’t thanking them enough for their contribution. However, the immigrants who come to Canada, in our present world, get to travel
Since 2011, Syria has been engaged in a Civil War with protestors against the government and members of the extremist group ISIS, and approximately 7.6 million people have been displaced from their homes (usnews.com 2015). As the conflict destroys more homes and livelihoods each year, an increasing number of civilians have been forced to leave Syria and try to find safety elsewhere. Already a contentious issue, the Syrian refugee crisis has awakened tensions, both economic and social as debate erupts over what to do with the refugees. In response to the crisis, while some countries like Germany have pledged to help the refugees, (New Statesman 2015 1) only 2,340 have been admitted. Clearly, more needs to be done in order to help the refugees. Although there are economic and population concerns to be considered, the humanitarian conflict that faces the refugees and solutions already available are reason enough for Europe to increase the numbers of Syrian refugees allowed in.
